The closest comparison to Stevie's current age would be Cher, whose big comeback happened when she was 52. It's the kind of song that makes people want to sing-a-long, a la "Landslide".

However, I don't think any of these songs will get serious air play because of the simple fact that she's over 40. You go too far past the 4 minute mark and radio programmers balk for various reasons. So you have 5 options: Secret Love, For What It's Worth, In Your Dreams, Italian Summer, Cheaper Than Free. The last two are out. Neither would be strong enough to get radio play. I think the remaining three will be the singles from this album (assuming they get to the third).

That being said, I figure the intro is cut and one of the end "for what it's worth" is taken out or possibly an early fade out gets it to the 4:04.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-47733657664489079192011-07-07T07:50:31.256-05:002011-07-07T07:50:31.256-05:00We've a new album to enjoy...she's happy w...We've a new album to enjoy...she's happy with it. Plain and simple. The core of her audience does not run out and buy records anymore. Plain and simple. She is past her prime as far as sales and being the "it" girl. Lousy as it may be (IYD is a very fine CD), it never had a chance to make her a "star" again. We should all be thankful that the music was well reviewed, and a Grammy nomination I think will probably be the topper.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-19766701861737549482011-07-06T15:16:44.389-05:002011-07-06T15:16:44.389-05:00The passion we feel for her is amazing, and the d...The passion we feel for her is amazing, and the diversity among her fans is too. Hopefully it will crossover to other formats. And a video and tv appearances are crucial. She typically does them as she is touring, which means NY based tv appearances might be late August or Early September...too late I fear unless she does some LA based shows before the tour.
Moonllight will almost certainly be 3rd single, and Annabel Lee the 4th. For what it's worth is great, but not on par with Landslide. Let's not forget video is different today. MTV and VH1 are hardly music video friendly - especially for Stevie who is not as young as she once was. Just the obvious sad truth. This is a great album...Terrible choice of a single. This is a great album cut but not a strong contender for radio. "Moonlight" would have been a better choice, as would "In your dreams." It is really weird how much creativity Stevie put into this album, yet all the poorly mad marketing decisions were made. Videos released at the last minute, no spots on Letterman, Conan or Leno. No make up dates for her canceled morning show spots. Just mistake upon mistakes. Especially weird since everybody knew with the internet stealing sales with illegal downloading, no extra effort is being made. "For what it's worth" will appeal to a very small niche of the adult contemporary markey, just as "Secret love" did. Strange marketing for a rock and roll legend.Johnnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-23854592067582564482011-07-06T09:49:01.848-05:002011-07-06T09:49:01.848-05:00I think "For What It's Worth" IS the...I think "For What It's Worth" IS the obvious single. But as we all know by now, her record company and management are all way too stupid to plan this out in advance. So don't count on actually ever hearing the song on the radio.
