I love Stevie's vocals, the lyrics, and the production. I respect those who don't like it, but I love it!John Segerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13870704063219582222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-71008529654439681002013-12-20T00:06:09.623-06:002013-12-20T00:06:09.623-06:00To be more specific about my saying that the lyric...To be more specific about my saying that the lyrics of YOU CAN'T FIX THIS are cliched - here are NINE cliches if find within the song's short running time:

dancing with the devil
walk through the darkness
have a heart
never be sorry
hearts breaking
break like glass
hear the bells ring
never be sorry
burn you down

This degree of reliance on cliches should NOT be mistaken for deep feeling. Stevie seems lost and numbed out - like on STREET ANGEL.

I hope YOU CAN'T FIX THIS is just a temporary lapse.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-67432592627935536762013-12-18T19:36:52.206-06:002013-12-18T19:36:52.206-06:00The point was that the term "hater" is c...The point was that the term "hater" is commonly used by drone-like fans cultivated by artists like Bieber and Gaga to deflect all criticism, as if they personally were a thug army marching behind their "leader." Which is not to say all Gaga fans accept everything she does uncritically. It's just that some fans take criticism of their idols too personally, and so resort to equating criticism with "hate speech" - which is clearly a perversion of that concept.

I appreciate the thoughtful person who talked of the song in terms of the lyrics not agreeing with the track, but I still cringe at the cliched, amateurish words, which has Stevie "rhyming" the word glass with the word glass. Awful! Karen - please order a thesaurus from Amazon. LET ME BE CLEAR HERE, You're OPINION of this song as being one of the "WORST" songs is simply that, YOUR OPINION. You don't deride others as 'blindly embracing' or 'worshiping' something simply because you don't think others should like it. What a complete douche! Such a double standard. How incredibly arrogant and egotistical to think that you alone are the one who sets society's "standards" for music. PLEASE Get over yourself, others can think for themselves.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-76058546862285803702013-12-18T17:32:45.242-06:002013-12-18T17:32:45.242-06:00I like the song, LOVE the doc, but I'm sure Pa...I like the song, LOVE the doc, but I'm sure Paul's song with Dave and crew will get the Nom before Fix This. The lyrics are just as powerful as the musical arrangement is potent, I just feel the lyrics would be better paired with another track. You are absolutely correct, however, this is not a nomination.

I would point out though ... as much as I agree with you that just because we love Stevie doesn't mean we have to love every song she releases, putting down other artists or people who listen to said artists is just as lame. Not all of us Gaga fans blindly love everything she releases.

I do have to wonder, though, who submitted it. I doubt it was someone from Stevie's camp; she does not strike me as the type of artist who would submit her work for contention. Maybe it was Dave Grohl or someone from his camp.MplsMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16559454511654308597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-25285821572128138892013-12-18T13:50:26.392-06:002013-12-18T13:50:26.392-06:00Guys - don't misunderstand this. I'd be shocked if it garnered an actual Academy Award nomination, but who knows....

As for the person who calls anyone a "hater" who doesn't blindly embrace everything you think we should like based on celebrity worship - that's very typical of a culture that's lost its standards. Please hang out in the Justin Bieber/Lady Gaga world if you think that way. YOU CAN'T FIX THIS IS one of Stevie's all-time WORST songs, and I say that as a lifelong fan. The Academy voters may want to welcome her into the ranks of Randy Newman and Elton John, because of her survival skills. The film academy is kinder to older women than the recording industry is to get a nomination. Also the Academy Awards isn't a boys club.
Good luck, Stevie, may her song be nominated!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6620511595417365920.post-87252594202907828882013-12-17T22:44:37.642-06:002013-12-17T22:44:37.642-06:00"Young and Beautiful" seems to be the pi..."Young and Beautiful" seems to be the pick for Oscar's original song this year.
