New Empire of the Sun Album to feature Lindsey Buckingham

Luke Steele has written a song with Fleetwood Mac legend Lindsey Buckingham for the next Empire of the Sun album.

The yet-to-be-named album, pencilled in for October, features a very special guest — Fleetwood Mac legend Lindsey Buckingham.

Steele explains that when he and Jodi have “late night music parties” at their Santa Monica or Coromandel Peninsula homes to a soundtrack of classic pop and rock, he often emails his manager asking for a hook-up with one of his heroes.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the time they never get back,” he laughs. “I’ve always wanted to work with my favourite guitarist Lindsey Buckingham so I reached out.

“He got back and said ‘Fleetwood Mac are off the road, I’m in LA, I’d love to come down’.”

Buckingham joined Empire of the Sun in their Downtown LA Compound where he played guitar and sung harmonies on a track called To Her Door, which the 66-year-old rock god also co-wrote.

“It’s such a classic song,” Steele gushes. “It’s just been a dream come true.”

FLEETWOOD MAC’S MIRAGE SET FOR DELUXE REISSUE

3CD/5.1 Surround Mix/LP Set Features Newly Remastered Sound, Rare And Unreleased Recordings, And More

2-CD Expanded Edition Also Available

Both Versions Set For Release On September 23rd From Warner Bros. Records

LOS ANGELES – Fleetwood Mac’s streak of five consecutive multi-platinum albums began in the Seventies and continued in 1982 with Mirage, the follow-up to the band’s 1979 double-album, Tusk. During the summer of 1982, Mirage topped the album chart and added to the band’s already impressive canon of hits with “Hold Me,” “Love In Store” and “Gypsy.”

Following last year’s deluxe edition of Tusk, Fleetwood Mac continues chronologically with the deluxe edition of MIRAGE. Available on July 29, this new edition expands on the original album with newly remastered sound, a selection of rare and unreleased recordings, as well as the stories and pictures behind the album. Three formats available:

- Deluxe: Three CDs, DVD and LP. Original album remastered, plus b-sides and rarities; the original album on LP; live performances; and a 5.1 mix on DVD. $99.98.

- Expanded: Two CDs. Original album remastered, plus a disc of b-sides and rarities. $13.98.

- Remastered: Original album remastered. $11.98.

Digital version will also be available.

In 1982 Fleetwood Mac topped the U.S. Album Chart for five weeks with MIRAGE. Along with instantly recognizable smash hits like “Hold Me” and “Gypsy,” MIRAGE also features great album tracks like “Oh Diane,” a Top Ten hit in the UK, and “Straight Back,” a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Rock Chart.

The new deluxe and expanded editions of MIRAGE both include a second disc that has 19 tracks dedicated entirely to outtakes and rarities. Among the unreleased gems are early versions of several album tracks – “Empire State” and “Book Of Love” – along with outtakes for songs that didn’t make it to the album: “If You Were My Love” and “Smile At You.” There is also an unreleased cover of the Fats Domino classic “Blue Monday,” as well as the rare, extended mix for “Gypsy” that was used in the music video.

Exclusive to the deluxe edition of MIRAGE is a third disc that has more than a dozen live performances recorded in Los Angeles during Fleetwood Mac’s 1982 U.S. tour. Along with early hits – “You Make Loving Fun” and “The Chain” – the collection includes performances of MIRAGE standouts like “Love In Store,” “Eyes Of The World” and “Gypsy.”

The DVD-Audio disc contains both the 5.1 Surround and 24/96 Stereo Audio mixes of the original album. The set also includes a vinyl copy of MIRAGE.

Ken Caillat began re-mixing Fleetwood Mac's 1982 album 'Mirage'. Deluxe Box Set expected

This made my day!  It's long overdue!  Rumours and Tusk producer Ken Caillat posted on his facebook page today that he started working on remastering Fleetwood Mac's 1982 album 'Mirage'. No idea when we can expect this and hopefully it doesn't sit on a shelf for a decade once complete, but it's movement forward getting past the Rumours and Tusk era albums.

Now if only Stevie could take a look at her early work and remaster those as well.

Update: April 3rd

Updated April 30th:

Looks like Ken is finished his part based on yesterday's facebook post.  Exciting!  Hopefully they include the Mirage concert DVD at the very least in this and not just the audio, although that's cool too... Remastering the VHS that was released in the 80's to DVD only makes sense if they are repackaging Mirage.

Updated: May 10th.

This may or may not be legit... but this is what is floating around the net regarding Fleetwood Mac's Remastered edition of Mirage. Take it with a grain of salt until it's been made official... which could be soon.

Release Date: 2016-07-29 -- Fleetwood Mac "Mirage (Deluxe Edition)" 3CD/1DVD/1LP box set including 5.1 surround mix

The 30th annual Easter Bonnet Competition Featuring Stevie Nicks

(April 25th and 26th) The 30th annual Easter Bonnet Competition, celebrating six weeks of fundraising by 58 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies, raised a record-shattering $5,528,568, the largest grand total from either an Easter Bonnet Competition or Gypsy of the Year fundraising campaign in Broadway Cares history. The show featured a surprise performance by rock legend Stevie Nicks, two top awards for Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of Hamilton, and more than 230 of the best actors, singers and dancers in New York.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks made a surprise appearance to join the kids’ band from School of Rock - The Musical. The audience screamed as Nicks - with her distinctive voice - led the band in a rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s classic hit “Rhiannon,” which Nicks wrote.

Stevie Nicks surprised Broadway’s “School of Rock” with riveting performance of “Rhiannon”

Stevie Nicks surprises ‘School of Rock’ crowd, talks Prince

Stevie Nicks surprised the audience at Broadway’s “School of Rock” with a riveting performance of “Rhiannon” after the cast took its curtain call.

Backed by the show’s very young band, Nicks brought the house to its feet. Afterward, she had nothing but praise for the young musicians.

“I have Fleetwood Mac, and then I have my solo band that I’ve been playing with since 1980, and now I have one more fantastic band to add to my roster, so I’m very happy,” Nicks said Tuesday night backstage at the Winter Garden Theater.

Nicks also shared her memories of Prince while recording her 1980s hit, “Stand Back.” She said the idea came to her while listening to “Little Red Corvette” while driving, and she was compelled to call him about it.

“I asked him if he would come over to Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. Never in a million years expecting that he would say yes, or that he was even in Los Angeles, and he was there in like twenty minutes,” Nicks said.

Then she added: “I didn’t have to call and tell him that I kind of ripped off his song, but I did because I’m honest. So it turned into a really amazing relationship. Is my heart broken? Absolutely.”

But Nicks said it felt “fantastic” playing music with the young stars of “School of Rock.” She saw the show on opening night, and came back to see it again.

Performing at the show was something she wanted to do, especially because she would help raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. The organization provides financial support for people with AIDS, HIV and HIV-related diseases.

“It’s not work, it’s just great fun … so it’s a great easy way to make money to give to people that really need it,” Nicks said.

The audience was filled with kids that seemed to enjoy her performance. But connecting her music with a younger audience has never been a concern for Nicks.

“I don’t feel like I’m a songwriter that just writes for old people or just writes for young people,” Nicks said.

Instead, she sees herself as the same timeless writer she was at 14.

“I don’t think we’re stuck in a time machine that they only have to write stuff for people their age, and I only have to write stuff for people my age. Obviously, that’s not true because look at what we just did.”

"I think people could do with a new Mac album from the five of us.” - Christine McVie

After 16 years in the Kent wilderness, Christine McVie and Fleetwood Mac are creating magic once again… there’s even a new album in the pipeline.

By Reyhaan Day
Mayfair Times

Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie offers me tea and a seat on a plush sofa. Among the things on her coffee table is a picture book called Crap Taxidermy. There’s a platinum record on the wall, and a stuffed dog looks out from under a side table next to a flickering fireplace.

“Do you like my dog? I found him in an antique shop – he’s 100 years old and I call him Jarvis.”

McVie is a dog person – she had two until recently. “I had a lovely time with them, but do I miss having dogs? Dogs tie you down. Who’s going to look after them when I go on tour?” she says. “I thought about getting a bird – a parrot perhaps – and teaching it to talk.” But McVie doesn’t want to be held back any longer. “I want my freedom now.”

As one fifth of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie has helped define popular music since the late 1960s. With her bandmates, McVie has written songs that are loved across generations. With 1977’s Rumours, Fleetwood Mac became superstars, experiencing both critical acclaim and public adoration. She explains that there is something about the band’s music, and Rumours in particular, that appeals to all ages. “Parents played the album at home, but kids gravitated to the album as well; and now some of their children are turned on to Fleetwood Mac.” It’s something that McVie is still surprised by. “It’s really quite amazing, the dichotomy of people coming to see the shows – it ranges anywhere from 80 to eight. It’s very exciting.”
