Stevie Nicks | Lindsey Buckingham and the Grammy Possibilities

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham
Two amazing artists putting out arguably their best solo material
Could a Grammy be next?

2011 has been an incredible year for both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.  Within the span of 5 months both have put out critically and to a certain extent commercially successful albums.  They have both toured North America this spring, summer and fall and continue to tour with upcoming shows booked in the UK and Australia. They have surrounded themselves with incredible musicians backing them up in the studio and on the road which resulted in two stellar albums, cool videos and really amazing interesting live performances in some great historic venues!  It goes without saying that each has had an amazing run as a solo artists over the years, not to mention being members of Fleetwood Mac, so to see this level of artistic achievement from them at this stage in their careers is just mind blowing... And both show no signs of stopping now!  In fact it almost feels like they are just getting started!  They continue to roll on with Lindsey releasing a live DVD/CD package out Oct 31st in the UK & November 1st in North America and Stevie is reportedly prepping her "Making of" In Your Dreams documentary.  It's also been an incredible year for fans on both sides of the fence so any Grammy nominations on top of all this would just be icing on the cake!

I'm really excited for both of them and wish them both the best of luck as the list of artists and their submissions is fairly lengthy with a lot of really great performers this year hoping to grab a nomination.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
Here's a list of submissions for Grammy consideration for both Lindsey and Stevie.  Actual nominations are announced at some point in December with awards given out early next year.

Stevie and her team have submitted two songs in 5 categories. "Secret Love" for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video categories.  They have also submitted "Soldiers Angel" in the Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song categories.  Stevie's album "In Your Dreams" was also placed in the Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year categories.  Lindsey Buckingham and his team have submitted his album "Seeds We Sow" in for consideration in the Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year categories with the lead single "In Our Own Time" being submitted to the Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year categories. 1. not that it matters anyway and maybe the way it was submitted is a sign of not caring, but weird choices for LB. his album was doing well on various rock charts and not so great on pop charts - so why would they submit in pop and not rock categories?!

  2. There is only one category for "Rock" The category "Best Rock Performance" is a combination of three previous categories:
    Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance
Best Rock Performance by a duo or group with vocal
    Best Rock Instrumental Performance

  4. Interesting choices for songs for Stevie. What happened to FWIW? There could have been a song in almost every category. Country, pop, rock, folk. Why did they focus on just those tunes? They don't need to be hits neccessarily.

  5. Agree for Stevie's songs - there are so many others on the CD that are better than Secret Love...and more hooky and creative....Secret Love...bleh...boring....

  6. Are you kidding me?? Stevie Nicks' album is so cosmopolitan. She has such a diverse landscape of genres on her album. She has never pigeonholed herself like Lindsey-- I like Lindsey but let's face it, he isn't raw and emotive like Stevie. He HAS always Bern about taking away from original and even in the early days of his carnation n the MAC he airs on the side of over production and otherworldly cosmos. Stevie Nicks has always been the anchor of Fleetwood Mac and as a Solo Artist. She is the talent and her voice runs circles around Lindsey... As does her lyrics.... As does her stage persona.... As does her interaction with the fans.... Stevie better finally get the recognition she HAS ALWAYS deserved!!!!

  7. I like Lindsey but his major problem is he has always tried too hard to push the envelope and be obscure. He has been so caught up in meddling in this sound and that sound his entire career that he has never found his true niche. I appreciate the innovator in him but the sum of all parts never produced a whole with his music. He has tried so hard to outshine Stevie and has paid a difficult price IMHO. That is, he doesn't have a brand to call his own. Let's not be fooled into thinking that he doesn't want any recognition or accolades for his SOLO-- Little Machine efforts either. The fact is, if he were half the solo artist as Stevie and his records were selling like hot cakes, he wouldn't be so modest. If you want proof of that, just look at his inflated ego with Fleetwood Mac. He has always wanted the solo career success of his colleague and ex flame he just struck out. Stevie Nicks can justifiably say she has two big machines and should feel darn good about it! She is original and never wavered from that. Nobody can mimic her, nobody can touch those silken drenched- scratchy with a dab of cream- pipes of hers.

  8. @nickslive: there's no "best rock album"?

  9. ^^ No, there's no "Best Rock Album" submission for either.

  10. First of all, Stevie's CD has been more successful than Lindsey's. Her CD was #5 when it was released. Lindsey had to sell his CD for less and it didn't even make it into the Top 10 on Billboard. I agree that he has tried to outshine Stevie but it just can't be done. He has an over inflated ego.

  11. Well since LB had so very little to do with the production of IYD's, maybe Stevie has a good chance this year for consideration. On the other side of things; I think the timing is so appropriate for LB's CD/DVD package...I mean October 31st is universally considered the Day Of the Dead and with the sales of both his CD and show tickets bucketing so badly......

  12. amazing and incredibly sad to see people's need to drag somebody through the mud by stating variety of inaccuracies, gossips and half-truths in order to argue the value of whoever is the artist they like (do they really?).

  13. Stevie Nicks wouldn't be known today if it wasn't for Lindsey. He is the one with the talent. Stevie is a monotone singer with no range. She even has a problem within the octive she sings all her songs in. Lindsey plays every instrument known to man. His guitar playing is unmatched by anyone else. Every one of Stevie's songs sound the same and are meaningless. She was just in the right place at the right time in 1974. In fact, Mick originally offered just Lindsey to join FM, but LB felt he had an obligation to bring his ball and chain with him.

  14. Clearly the above poster is not musically incline nor educated. Stevie Nicks is certainly not monotone. She is, in fact, a Contralto with a F#2 - E5 range. If that were the case and Lindsey was so talented, why is it that Stevies song Dreams was the only song in the history of Fleetwood Mac to go #1? Let's not forget about Rhiannon, Landslide, Sara, Gypsy, Silver Springs
(which garnered a Grammy nomination later).... The list goes on....... Apparently you are a Lindsey lover and can't be objective... I'm sticking with the facts. Another fact, Lindseys solo career is a mainstream flop both then and now. Stevie's solos career is a success both now and then. Kudos to Lindsey for playing a kick a** guitar. Other than that, his talent pales in comparison to Stevie Nicks. As for Stevie Nicks not initially being wanted in the band, they didn't need a singer because they already had Christine Mcvie. It's a good thing they brought her aboard because if not, I can guarantee you, with Lindsey Buckingham alone in the band, it would've been a major flop!

  15. Stevie is very likely to be the first woman double-inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, because of her substantial solo career running parallel to her substantial success with Fleetwood Mac. According to Billboard, she's the only Gold/Platinum selling artist to ever pull off such a feat. Lindsey's solo career has not generated a gold album or a memorable single. His past few CDs haven't even sold 50,000 copies and his recent tour of on-average 1,000 seat venues saw him playing to houses only 50-70% full for most shows. He's talented, but not significant enough to grab people the way Stevie has. He'll never be a double inductee because he needs her to be great. He's never written or produced a hit for anyone, but she's had many hits outside of FM and Sara and Gypsy were polished fully produced demos by the time Lindsey heard them. Stevie's voice is instantly recognizable to most, Lindsey's guitar playing is not. If her voice and is guitar playing were explosives, he'd be a firecracker and she an Atom Bomb.

  16. As much as I would enjoy either of these talented individuals receiving a solo Grammy at this point in their career, I feel the Grammys are still based on sales and age of artist and radio play. Therefore, its likely neither artist will receive a nomination or win this year.

  17. If Mick Fleetwood can get nominated for his last effort surely Stevie and maybe Lindsey have a shot at being nominated. It would be great if Stevie was recognized for this great album In Your Dreams a Comepling and transformative Ride on Stevie's Rock &Roll Bus. Filled with vampires and Great love affairs gone bad it's a fantastic ride. So, I think given her awesome 30 year solo career And this new more mature offering, Stevie Nicks should receive the Grammy for Album Of The Year

  18. I like both artists, I feel IYD isnt Stevies best work, it is not a scratch on 80s stevie.

as for lindsey I dont think he cares if he wins a grammy as he already achieved the les paul award and ascap award this year, he just does it for the enjoyment of playing. but you gotta be in it to win it right, its also good promotion for both of them

  19. I'm so happy to have this compilation of this year's 2011 Grammy Nominees, particularly Cee Lo Green's Forget You. I listen to that selection & visualize the Grammy production and enjoy it so much!!!

  20. It was going to be an uphill battle, but her team clearly didn't help with these choices. I guess "Secret Love" was the only option for record and song since it got more radio play than anything else on the album (which is not saying a lot). But why not then also submit it for Pop Solo Performance? It's not like there's a limit to the submissions, and while it's a big stretch to think "Secret Love" would get ANY nomination, a vocal nom certainly seems more realistic than record or song of the year! "For What It's Worth" should have been submitted in the country vocal and country song categories. Also stretches, but worth the try. And the rock vocal and song categories -- which should have been her best chances -- were pretty much ruined by not pushing a single that would have fit the rock genre. So they just picked a song and went for the sympathy card with "Soldier's Angel" when the title track or "Ghosts Are Gone" or even "Moonlight" would have been more suitable for the rock categories. Again, her chances were slim to start but with these submissions they just went down to about zero....
