Stevie Nicks Releases Statement: ‘Truly Sorry’ For Saying She Would Have ‘Strangled’ Nicki Minaj

Stevie Nicks ‘Truly Sorry’ For Saying She Would Have ‘Strangled’ Nicki Minaj

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Stevie Nicks is apologizing after she lashed out at Nicki Minaj.

The former Fleetwood Mac singer, who was a mentor last season on “American Idol,” was asked about the recent blowup between new “Idol” judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, and Stevie had some strong words for the new “Idol” judge.

“How dare this little girl!… If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there,” the 64-year-old rocked told The Daily.com when asked about Minaj. “I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it.”

Now, Nicks regrets her comments and says they came after a grueling day with the media.

“I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews. It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said,” she said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

Adding, “I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey who has gone through many difficulties in her life and I spoke without thinking. I think all artists should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry.”

A rep for Minaj was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

  1. I love her but she seems to be a bit bitchy here lately. I thought her statements about Ann and Nancy Wilson as well as Lindsey Buckingham were not very "Queen" like recently. I think she needs to check herself, and I love her. (And surely she has another outfit besides this same one she keeps wearing to these recent events over and over, again LOVE her! but just sayin...)

  2. Good - I'm glad this silly dust-up is over. It's obscuring the movie. I appreciate Stevie's honesty but "fan armies" take things to crazy heights through the Internet.

  3. I don't think anything she said about any of them was "bitchy". She has opinions just like every one else. I was surprised about what she said about Nicki, but what Nicki said was far worse.

  4. Look closer (first poster) it's a different top. The sleeves are the same as the previous, but this top is more sparkly.

  5. I think what she said was dead on. The behavior of Nicki Minaj was unacceptable. She acted like a piece of trash.

  6. It's all good, that little headline grabber :)

She's working it! Time for CD to re-chart and more festivals to book the documentary. DVD release, too. She really is all over the media, bad Stevie, good Stevie, sorry Stevie, busy Stevie!

Something good will come from it all.

    Spin!

  7. We all do and say things we regret, Stevie included. The important thing is to acknowledge their impropriety, repair what you can, learn from it and move on. Let's not give her a hard time about this anymore, please. I think things like this can really throw her off and we want her more focused on the positive.

  8. This makes me very happy... I just KNEW she could not have seriously meant the things she said. We all have our bad days, and I will always love you Stevie!! I'm really proud of you!! XOXO

  9. What still makes Stevie Nicks the “Queen” is that in the wisdom of hindsight she now regrets her comments and has taken the time to explain that they came after a long and grueling day with the media promoting her new documentary "In Your Dreams," going so far as to state that “it was very out of character” for her and she “deeply” regrets her remarks regarding Minaj.

“How dare this little girl!” Nicks had initially responded when first hearing about the recent blowup between Mariah Carey and Minaj, followed by a string of further strong words, which implicated killing Minaj in front of everyone by strangulation and then having to “go to jail for it.”

Now if Queen Nicks’ initial decree seems a bit extreme, consider the little novice Minaj casting dark curses towards veteran master musician Mariah Carey on American Idol, then declaring in Wonderland-like discourse: “…say one more disrespectful thing to me – off with your head!” Mariah quietly responding with, “I am not being disrespectful,” to which Minaj repeats twice more, “Off with your head, off with your head.” Minaj is even alleged to have threatened to kill Mariah Carey just after the vicious altercation, reportedly saying ‘If I had a gun, I would shoot her.’ Thus, this seems to paint a much better picture as to what Nicks was informed had occurred between Mariah and Minaj, and her immediate response to it.

As the dust settles today, Nicks has sincerely apologized with more characteristic class, clarifying that she just felt “very protective” toward Mariah Carey who’s “gone through many difficulties in her life” and that she indeed “spoke without thinking” and that she thinks that “all artists should be respectful toward one another” and that includes her. She is clearly “truly sorry.”

  10. I too, was shocked to hear Stevie say anthing that could be considered agvocating any kind of violence, even if she felt the need to protect Mariah. It is so out of charecter for her, and I am glad she felt the need to release an apology. And yes her comments about Ann and Nancy Wilson also seemed kind of mean spirited. Perhaps she is tired and needs a break.

  11. I'm curious, because if it has happened, I havent heard about it. But has Nicki apologized to Mariah. I mean really who is at fault here., idol is watched by young children, teens.. and who are Nicki's fans.. Gets annoying all these artists/sports etc. make all this money, but they are not responsible for checking their mouth at the door!! stevie had an opinion... she could of worded it a little different, but it was an opinion... I am more concerned about all the young people that love and look up to Nicki Minaj... and once again, this was an extreme case of bullying!!!! it isnt just middle school age kids that bully, but watching Nicki get away with it, doesnt help kids stop doing it!!!!

  12. The part that was bitchy about Ann in Nancy was the part when she said they would not be in her book. And Stevie acted just like that Nicki girl with her inital comments. I am glad Liz R. did some damage control. Hopefully, Stevie's security has done the same. You just don't mess with gangsters. MC knew better.

  13. I mean it's her choice not to have anything about Ann and Nancy in her book but what was the point to say that like she did. Just seems like "dirt" is "dirt" So why wouldn't she read about it if she is going to talk about it like she does. That goes with still painting LB is a not very nice guy until Soldier's Angel. I just think it make her come across, no so nice and that's a shame.

  14. ^^ I think the point of saying that Anne and Nancy wouldn't be in her book is to illustrate basically how, if she wrote a book, she would write her book by only talking about the great things and moments in her life, vignettes. Anne and Nancy wouldn't be in the book (as a vignettes) not necessarily because they wrote about her, but because the time she spent with them wasn't a particular highlight or high point in her life. It was part of the darker period before rehab. That's how I took it.

  15. I am sure she had some good times with them and the fact Nancy wrote THESE DREAMS for her has to be a pretty high point. That's kind of an proud moment. So, IMO she could have made her point about what that wrote without that last little dig because that is what is was, a dig.

  17. I just saw the interview where Stevie gets bent out of shape about being in Ann and Nancy Wilson's book. I love the band Heart but I don't blame Stevie for being pissed off. In the interview it was clear that Stevie had *just* heard about the book right before the interview and hadn't read it. They aren't close friends but went on the road together, "had a ball", and "did lots of drugs". Given her struggles with drugs I'm sure Stevie doesn't look at that as a bright time in her life and I'm sure she felt a little betrayed having the details of their private time together written in a book. I don't blame her one bit, and after reading the Wilsons' book I didn't feel like it was an essential thing to have in the book. I took it as a bit gratuitous for the Wilsons to even include it because it didn't seem like something that was a particular high point in their lives either.

  18. Seems a bit too much tit for tat between Stevie Nicks and Ann and Nancy Wilson. I love all three of them, but for different reasons. Stevie Nicks has written some incredible great lyrics down through the years..(not that Ann and Nancy Wilson haven't as well), Nancy Wilson is one of the most respected acoustic and rhythm guitarists around, and Ann Wilson has some of, if not indeed, the best vocal abilities in ALL musical genres, not just rock n roll.
