The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, Riverstage Gig Review

Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs and The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band
Riverstage, Brisbane, AU - 27 February, 2010

Before Mick Fleetwood and his Blues Band took to the stage, the fine punters at Brisbane's Riverstage - those that had bothered to show up on time - were thoroughly soaked from a summer downpour and clutching feverishly to their $5 ponchos, which did little. Could the mood better be set for a little summer blues?

Fleetwood, naturally of Fleetwood Mac fame, cut a swarthy figure behind his black and gold-plated drum kit and you saw just how gigantesque he was as he leapt to his feet and saluted the crowd between songs. His blues band was fronted by the dapper Rick Vito, who impressed with some elegant slide playing, an epic vintage guitar collection and some nods to Peter Green on 'Black Magic Woman' and 'Love that Burns'. The band funked it up with 'Shake your Moneymaker' and the chemistry between the jolly Santa-like Fleetwood and the refined style of Vito was fun to watch.

$4 Download Deal: Fleetwood Mac
ByPETER OBERG

Fleetwood Mac at Roundhouse Chalk Farm (London, England) on April 24, 1970.

When I tell people I work for Wolfgang’s Vault, one of the questions I am most frequently asked is “What have you found that you love?” The reply changes from week to week, but I do have a stock answer that I rely on if I’m too drunk to recall what I had been working on. That answer is Peter Green.

It’s embarrassing in retrospect, but I had never known Peter Green before I started working here; I’ve always assumed Rumors was the pinnacle and epitome of Fleetwood Mac. Well, I’m wiser now and eternally grateful for it. If you don’t know who Peter Green is, I urge you to inform yourself. He can melt your heart and mind with his blues guitar playing. But most of you probably do know who he is though and I don’t have to tell you what deal it is to own a piece of music legend for that much money.

Fleetwood Mac’s Future

We Will Rock You - News and Interviews with your favorite rock musicians: "This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner

After a pretty busy period, Fleetwood Mac have been quiet lately, but we caught up with drummer Mick Fleetwood who filled us in on the band’s future plans."

“We’ve been working like dogs for about a year and a half nearly. So that ended just before Christmas in Australia and we had a fantastic tour, went all over the world, and a happy one, a happy tour. So I would say knowing us bunch, we’ll probably take about 18 months off. And then there is definitely the want to do more work and hopefully we’ll do more recording. I don’t know whether that’s really gonna happen or not.”

In the meantime, Mick is working with his Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, setting up an American tour. Keep up to date on all things Mick at MickFleetwood.com.

We Were the World: 86 Words Aboard the Crossover Express < Features | PopMatters: "In the second of our Tusk pieces, Alice Singleton explores how Fleetwood Mac fleetingly broke racial barriers in music and captured the heart of black girls raised on funk, R&B, and segregation politics."

Christine McVie’s Warm Ways < Features | PopMatters: "With Fleetwood Mac's Tusk recently turning 30, PopMatters offers some reflection on the too-often-overlooked Mac classic. In the first piece, Alfred Soto explores Tusk as the apex of the work of singer and keyboardist Christine McVie."
