Documentary: FLEETWOOD MAC - DON'T STOP Airing on BBC4 May 4th

FLEETWOOD MAC - DON'T STOP
This 2009 Documentary originally aired on the BBC just ahead of Fleetwood Mac's Unleashed tour dates in the UK and Ireland.

The Documentary takes a look back over the band's long career, from the early blues outfit led by Peter Green in the late 1960s, to their reincarnation in the 1970s with the line-up that went on to record the 40-million-selling album Rumours. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reveal the truth behind the successes, failures and relationships that have characterised their music and made them one of the most enduring acts in popular music.

Excerpt 1

Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop lacked the caustic edge of the Rock Family Trees film about the band from 1995. That contained some great stuff about the fake Fleetwood Mac launched by their former manager Clifford Davis, true confessions from ex-guitarist Bob Weston about his affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife, and the one about addled guitar hero Peter Green wandering around with pieces of cheese in his hair. But inevitably director Matt O'Casey's new film had the advantage of being able to bring the story up to date, notably in a bittersweet coda reflecting on the still-unbridged chasm between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

For all the doggedness of founding father Mick Fleetwood, who increasingly resembles a castaway from a tropical island - funnily enough, he now lives in Hawaii, along with original bassist John McVie - the Mac became the biggest band of their era because of Buckingham and Nicks. Of all the inter-band traumas, theirs was the most spectacular, intense and creative, and it still bites both of them hard to this day.

Nicks, in particular, wasn't pulling any punches. It hurt her when Buckingham wrote "Go Your Own Way" about her, and it still does: "Ladylike, prudish Stevie, which I am, was very offended by him saying 'shacking up is all you want to do', because I was not in any kind of shacking up mood. I was not shacking up with anybody."

By all accounts Buckingham has always been a gifted but bloody difficult band-mate - "one of those people that will go up on the cross to make a point, and die," as Nicks put it - but marriage and children have given him some equilibrium. Yet his history with teenage sweetheart Stevie is still a weeping scab. "Maybe in 10 or 15 years when Lindsey and I are 75, we'll be friends again, when Fleetwood Mac is a distant memory," she said wistfully. But like the Flying Dutchman, maybe the Mac can never stop.

Not sure if it was his Blues Band with Rick Vito, or if it was his Island Rumours band... or a hybrid of both.  They performed last night in Hawaii on the big island at the Fairmount Orchid Hotel.

NME 100 Best Songs of the 80's
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere #92
Penned by Christine McVie about new husband Eddie Quintela, it was McVie doing what she did best; a simple song about the joys of new love. Lindsey Buckingham’s typically progressive production covered the song in a glossy 80s sheen, and would lead to another massive hit for the band from their monolithic ‘Tango In The Night’ album.

Totally 80's Summer Stevie Nicks | Bonnie Raitt | Steve Winwood

By the time all three became pop superstars in the ’80s, they had been in the business for a decade or more. Bonnie Raitt, Steve Winwood and Stevie Nicks needed time to develop. In today’s fragmented industry of microwavable stardom, it’s hard to imagine their careers taking shape the same way if they were starting now.

As the ethereal focal point of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks was a star. Her moody, throaty lead vocals on “Dreams,” a hit off the band’s 1977 mega-selling “Rumours,” helped make her a sensation. It also didn’t hurt that the camera loved her.   Full article at Hamptonroads.com

Elise Testone Talks Idol & Stevie Nicks

Meeting Stevie Nicks was the highlight of her Idol journey so far. “I definitely felt like her and I were old friends and clicked right away,” she recalled of their meeting a few weeks ago, when they joined together for an impromptu duet and Nicks said, “If I needed a singer, I’d hire her in an instant.” “She was so passionate and sincere with her advice when she spoke to me,” said Testone. “That was the most incredible mentor for me we’ve had so far. And I hope she calls me to be her backup singer!”

Ah, my dear nephew, I thought those were your steps I heard. Allow me to pause this Mirage concert bootleg; may I ask to what I owe this unexpected visit? Surely you haven’t come to my basement hideaway to spend the evening hours with your doddering old uncle, who, as you have made abundantly clear so many times before, has nothing at all to teach you—

But, wait, what’s that you say? Do my ears deceive me? Has my headstrong nephew at long last come to his senses and crawled back to hear his uncle’s Fleetwood Mac concert stories?  Full article

Starck Contrast
Another new documentary on the Starck Club revisits the storied Dallas nightclub of the '80s

It was May of 1984, and young punk Frank Campagna was racing around Dallas in his '75 burgundy Chrysler Cordova – the model with the real Corinthian leather. His mission: to find some green tea for Stevie Nicks.

"It was before there was Whole Foods or any of these organic places," he explains. "Hell, I'd never even heard of green tea before that. But that's what she wanted, and it was the only thing she drank."
