The gay icon reveals thoughts on American Horror Story, coming out, addiction, and more
Stevie Nicks has never gone out of fashion, but in the past few years her star has been on the rise: with a Glee episode dedicated to Rumours, a showstopping cameo on American Horror Story: Coven, and a mentor spot on The Voice.

In advance of the October 7 release of 24 Karat Gold, a collection of songs she wrote between 1969 and 1987 and demoed on cassettes that she stored in shoeboxes, she spoke with Michael Martin at her Los Angeles home about her career, love affairs, and why she cherishes her gay fans.

Mick Fleetwood Autobiography, "Play On," to Be Published October 28th

As the drummer of Fleetwood Mac since its 1967 inception, Mick Fleetwood saw the group transform from a respected British blues outfit to one of the most successful U.S.-based pop-rock acts ever.  The 67-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer certainly has more than a few tales to tell about his experiences in the group, and will share them in a new autobiography titled Play On: Now, Then and Fleetwood Mac, which will be published on October 28 in the US and October 30th in the UK.

The memoir, which was co-written with veteran Rolling Stone journalist Anthony Bozza, will offer an intimate look at the personal and professional triumphs and trials of Fleetwood and his band mates.  Through Fleetwood Mac's volatile history, which has included lineup upheavals, madness, drug abuse and intraband love affairs, Mick has been there for it all: He's the only member to have played with every incarnation of the group.

According to non-fiction publisher Hannah Black who acquired world rights in a joint deal with Little, Brown US, Mick will be do a UK book tour in November, said: “After 46 years of being on the road, now is the right time to look back in a way I've never done before: now and then.”

Play On will be released about one month after Fleetwood Mac kicks off its latest tour -- its first with longtime singer/keyboardist Christine McVie since 1998.  The trek begins September 30 in Minneapolis and runs through a December 20 show in Tampa, Florida.

Play On will be published as a hardback, e-book and audiobook on 28th October (US/CANADA) and on 30th October (UK).

"Carousel" clip from Stevie Nicks upcoming release #24KaratGold Stevienicksofficial.com

Here's the clip of "Carousel"... Isn't this a Vanessa Carlton tune? I recall Stevie and Vanessa performed this live a couple of years ago (video).  Maybe it's just a line from the song, not sure. But in any case the music combined with the multiple layers of voices sounds beautiful!

"And all I hear is the music
And beauty stands before me
And love comes back around again
It's a carousel my friend"

UK TV: Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop" Documentary Tonight BBC Four 9:15pm

Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop Documentary
The story of one of the biggest-selling bands of all time, told in their own words.

BBC Four
Friday, September 5th - 21:15 (9:15pm)
Saturday, September 6th - 01:35 (1:35am)
Sunday, September 7th - 00:00 (12:00am)

DURATION: 1 HOUR
Fleetwood Mac are one of the biggest-selling bands of all time and still on the road. Their story, told in their own words, is an epic tale of love and confrontation, of success and loss.

Few bands have undergone such radical musical and personal change. The band evolved from the 60s British blues boom to perfect a US West Coast sound that saw them sell 40 million copies of the album Rumours.

However, behind-the-scenes relationships were turbulent. The band went through multiple line-ups with six different lead guitarists. While working on Rumours, the two couples at the heart of the band separated, yet this heartache inspired the perfect pop record.

How Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks Unlocked Her 'Songs From the Vault'

Stevie Nicks Unearths Her Hidden Gems For '24 Karat Gold – Songs From the Vault'
Fleetwood Mac singer heads to Nashville and cuts 45 years' worth of unreleased songs

By Rob Sheffield | August 28, 2014
Rollingstone.com

These songs are little jewels," says Stevie Nicks of her new album. "Each one is the story of what was going on at the time – new relationships, new friends, new Fleetwood Mac albums." 24 Karat Gold – Songs From the Vault (out October 7th) is full of songs Nicks had written but never previously recorded, dating back to 1969. Some are so private, not even her Mac bandmates have heard them. "'Lady' was on a cassette I kept in a box, in a sacred trunk that my mother had," she says. "It just said 'Lady' on the front."

Nicks faced a severe time crunch in the studio – she had to finish before rehearsals for Fleetwood Mac's fall reunion tour with Christine McVie began. "I called [producer] Dave Stewart and said, 'I've got the songs, but how do we make a record in two months?'" she says. "He said, 'Nashville. That's what they do.' It's like checking yourself into music rehab."

The Nashville session cats helped Nicks crash 17 tracks in just three weeks. It was a new experience for her. "I'm usually up till four or five in the morning, but [for this album] I had to get up at nine, do a vocal lesson at 10, then watch Wendy Williams just to wake up. I'm in the bathtub at 12, then dressing as fast as I can, and driving across town to be in the vocal booth by two." It was exotic in other ways, too. "I'm used to bands where we argue over how to do the song. These Nashville guys just say, 'Yes, ma'am.'"

The album is decorated with Polaroid selfies taken by Nicks over the years. "People would ask to model for me, and I'd say, 'Be at my hotel room at 2:30 a.m., dressed in lipstick and gowns and hats and rhinestones and diamonds,' " Nicks says. "And they'd say, 'Uh, no, I'm good.' So I was the model, photographer and furniture mover."

Like the photos, the songs document Nicks' private life. "'Lady' captures the mood of me and Lindsey [Buckingham] being scared to death when we moved to L.A. in 1971," she says. "Our producer Keith Olsen gave us this white carved piano – I wrote 'Rhiannon' on it. But I didn't know how to play. 'Lady' was me figuring it out."

Nobody from Fleetwood Mac has heard the album yet, but she's confident her mates will like it. "Lindsey will love it," she says. "Half the songs are about him!"
