Stevie Nicks Promises "Eclectic" "Fast and Furious" show

Stevie Nicks Kicks Off 24 Karat Gold Tour Tonight, Promises "Eclectic," "Fast and Furious" Show

Stevie Nicks kicks off her 24 Karat Gold Tour tonight in her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, and she promises a show packed with music, not a lot of chatter.

"I'm not gonna do long talking things, where they might be going, 'Well, she could've actually done a whole song during this little talk here,'" Stevie tells ABC Radio. "It's gonna be fast and furious."

The set list will feature songs from Stevie's entire solo career as well as Fleetwood Mac hits, so everyone will go home happy.

"It's gonna be eclectic," she says. "I don't think anybody's gonna walk away going, like, 'Oh my God, she didn't do that Fleetwood Mac song that we wanted her to do.'"

She adds, "I'm not even gonna give people a minute to even start to ponder what's missing!"

And while she's giving fans a show, Stevie wants them to give her a show, too -- she's urging them to come dressed to the nines.

"I'm dressed-up up there, so I think it's a great thing to...say, ‘I give you all permission to totally pretend that you're going to a glorious cocktail party, and wear your most beautiful clothes,’" Stevie says.

"If you're a six-foot-five guy and you want to come in your white 'Edge of Seventeen' outfit, please do!'" she adds. "'Cause I just think it's hysterical, and I love it!"

Stevie's opening act is another legendary rock and roll chick, Chrissie Hynde, and her band the Pretenders -- which thrills Stevie to no end.

"When my manager said, 'What about The Pretenders?' I'm like, 'Would they even go with me?' And he said, 'I think they would!'" Stevie says. "I'm really excited about this, and I think, yes, we are bada** chicks, and it's really gonna be fun!"

INTERVIEW Stevie Nicks on the importance of being a romantic

Stevie Nicks on the importance of being a romantic
The Creative Independent

Do people often ask about your songwriting process?

They do. You know, they say, “Do you write about people? Do you write about love affairs? Do you write about what’s happening now? Do you write about what happened to you a long time ago in the past? How do you summon those memories up?” I always say to them, as a writer you don’t have any one way. You write about what inspires you right now. If what inspires you right now is that song “Missing You” by John Waite because you just happened to hear it on the radio, then so be it. That was my song back when I was with Joe Walsh and whenever it comes on I just have to sit down. My mind races back to that time in my life and if I let myself I could run right to the piano and write another song. I don’t always let myself do that anymore, but that’s what it inspires.
As a writer you don’t have any one way. You write about what inspires you right now.
I can be sitting in a parking lot waiting for my assistant to come to the car and I see a couple walk by and I can see their fingers gently touch and see him open the door for her and look at her and her look at him and for a moment they just stand still in time… and then I can go home and write a song about them. Or I can see a movie—say, it’s a movie with Michael Fassbender called The Light Between Oceans—and I can’t get this movie out of my head. The tragedy of this movie is so intense and so beautiful you can hardly stand it and you go home and think about it for days afterwards. It’s everything I can do to not just say “Stop everything I have to go and write a song about this movie because I need to write a song about this fictional relationship that I can’t stop thinking about.”

When people ask me about songwriting, that’s what I tell them. Pay attention to your feelings. It can be anything. Everything. And yes, I can write a really super romantic song today even though I’m not really in a relationship nor have I been in one for a long time. I can take ideas right out of the air, but I have to be really inspired. It has to be something truly inspiring that pushes me to go and write a poem, and then that poem is something that, when I have the time, I will take to the piano. That has always been my process since I was 15 years old.

You’ve spoken about the connection between poetry and songwriting. Is writing poems and songs your way of making sense of the world?

INTERVIEW Stevie Nicks speaks with Keith Caulfield of Billboard Magazine

Pop Shop Podcast featuring: Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow
Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and senior editor Katie Atkinson interview Stevie Nicks.

We spoke to the legendary Stevie Nicks a little while back, and in our conversation, we talk about her upcoming tour, her 24 Karat Gold album, how she compiled the set list for the show and the possibility of a new Fleetwood Mac album from the classic Rumours-era lineup of the band. Plus, Nicks discusses how she’s “heartbroken” that she’ll never be able to perform her famed hit “Stand Back” with Prince, as the song was inspired by the Purple One’s single “Little Red Corvette.”

Mick Fleetwood Says He Hopes Fleetwood Mac Finishes a New Album "Before We Hang It Up"

Fleetwood Mac launched its 2014-2015 world tour, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, John
McVie and Mick Fleetwood worked on some new tracks that have yet to see the light of day. Fleetwood says that "before we hang it up," he hopes the band will complete those recordings and release a new studio album, while admitting that he isn't sure if that will happen.

"We have what we would call a large stash of great music. I'm not quite sure what we're heading to do with it," he tells ABC Radio. "I hope that we are able to [put an album together]. It's just getting everyone on the same page to finish off the work that we've been doing."

Mick admits that one Fleetwood Mac member who currently isn't on the same page is Stevie Nicks, who will be launching a new North American solo tour on October 25.

"She's busy doing her own stuff," he points out. "And in this point in life, we've all dedicated so much time to Fleetwood Mac, you go, 'Hey, it'd be great if we could, but if not, don't worry about it.'"

Fleetwood tells ABC Radio that even if Nicks chooses not to lend her talents to the project, he hopes the music that's already been recorded will be released in some form.

"I think there's some thought that some of that lovely music would come out as a sort of duet album, maybe…from Christine and Lindsey," Mick poses. "And if not, it will stay in a room, waiting for the day that maybe it would make sense that all of us can contribute to that being a Fleetwood Mac album."

He adds, "Before we hang it up in the next few years, I truly hope there's another lovely album that will come out."

Christine McVie on Fleetwood Mac: ‘Without one of us, we’re incomplete’

The singer on the band’s half-finished album, the visitation she had when writing Songbird, and growing up with a psychic mum.

by: Peter Robinson
The Guardian

Hi, Christine. What was it like growing up with the surname Perfect (1)?

It was difficult. Teachers would say: “I hope you live up to your name, Christine.” So, yes, it was tough. I used to joke that I was perfect until I married John.

Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage is being reissued as a box set for £50 (2). Does that seem like a fair price?

It’s a really nice item! It’s quality, isn’t it? It’s good value for money – you’ve got a lot of outtakes, a lot of previously unheard demo versions of songs, you’ve got the vinyl ... a CD, I believe, is in there? I mean it’s a nice package! I haven’t had a good look at it, but the label has given me one to take home. I get a free one!

Have you listened to the demos and outtakes?

No. I’m not a big fan of those things. I know people are interested but for my own personal enjoyment I prefer not to listen to them. My songwriting, when I’m writing, is nothing like it is in its finished form – but you have to start somewhere.

Is the new album finished?

Pre-Order Stevie Nicks Bella Donna and The Wild Heart Deluxe Editions

Stevie Nicks' upcoming 24 Karat Gold Tour will feature the Fleetwood Mac singer performing songs from her entire solo career. If you want to revisit her earlier solo work, there's good news: Her first two albums are being reissued with live tracks and unreleased material.

Deluxe editions of 1981's Bella Donna and 1983's The Wild Heart arrive November 4. The three-CD Bella Donna reissue includes unreleased versions of hits like "Edge of Seventeen," movie soundtrack rarities and a 1981 live show. The Wild Heart two-CD reissue includes unreleased tracks and B-sides. Remastered versions of both albums also will be available on vinyl and CD that same day.

Stevie plans to reach back to both records on the tour, which kicks off October 25th.

"I would like to do bits and pieces of the song 'Bella Donna,'" Nicks tells ABC Radio. "I'm gonna try to do 'Wild Heart'...It's a very hard song to do but I'm gonna give it a go."

Those tunes will join a parade of Stevie's greatest hits in the set list: She'll sing "Gold Dust Woman," "Dreams," "Stand Back" and "Rhiannon," even though, she admits, Fleetwood Mac "just did 'Rhiannon' 220 times over the last three years." Another song that's always on the list: "Edge of Seventeen," even though, she says, "[It's] really long, so we might have to shorten it a little bit."

For Nicks, the trickiest part is figuring out how many songs from her most recent album, 24 Karat Gold, to include in the set.

"You can only do a certain amount of everything that's not that familiar to people," she notes. "Or they're gonna say, 'What song came off of the set so you could play this new song that I don't know?'"

Rhino Expands Stevie Nicks’ “Bella Donna” and “The Wild Heart” In November

"And the Summer became the fall... I was not ready for the winter"... Well I am now!!

Stevie Nicks is launching her 24 Karat Gold tour later month, named for her acclaimed 2014 studio album consisting of new recordings of previously unheard compositions. Now, Nicks is looking back once more with two more 24-karat gold Deluxe Editions of her first two solo albums, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. Both releases arrive from Rhino on November 4, along with remastered, stand-alone editions of the original albums on LP, CD and DD.

1981’s solo debut Bella Donna will be released as a 3-CD set. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, the album yielded such immortal Nicks tracks as “Edge of Seventeen” and two duets: “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and “Leather and Lace” with Don Henley. Disc Two of the upcoming set has nine previously unreleased cuts (including alternate versions of “Edge of Seventeen,” “Leather and Lace,” and the title song) plus Nicks’ soundtrack performances of “Blue Lamp” from Heavy Metal and “Sleeping Angel” from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The third disc premieres a 1981 concert featuring selections from Bella Donna alongside Fleetwood Mac favorites “Sara” and “Rhiannon.”

Following the 1982 release of Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage (recently reissued across multiple formats by Rhino – read our review here!), Nicks returned to her solo career with 1983’s The Wild Heart. The double-platinum smash is being reissued as a 2-CD set. It included such favorites as “Stand Back,” “Nightbird” and “I Will Run To You,” which reunited the artist with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The 9-track bonus disc has seven previously unreleased cuts including demos and outtakes, plus the “Stand Back” B-side “Garbo” and Nicks’ recording of “Violet and Blue” from the Against All Odds soundtrack.

“I’ve had so much fun reliving the making of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart while working on the liner notes and listening to all of the alternate versions and demo takes,” Nicks commented in the original press release. “The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel. I tried to make whoever reads this feel like they were there. I think…I succeeded….”

These two highly-anticipated reissues arrive from Rhino on November 4. In the meantime, Stevie kicks off her 24-Karat Gold tour (on which she’ll be joined by The Pretenders) on October 25 in Phoenix. It wraps December 18 at The Forum in Los Angeles!
