IN DEFENSE OF STEVIE NICKS - SWIFT LABEL CONFIRMS TAYLOR HAD PROBLEMS

Stevie did her best to pull Taylor back on key - you can only do so much in a short amount of time - it happens.... Stevie needs to get out there and do something amazing this year so that 2010 isn't defined by this.

Taylor Swift Defended by Record Label Executive

"Mr. Borchetta told The Associated Press that Ms. Swift had a technical problem during her duet with Ms. Nicks and was unable to hear the complete mix of the song as she performed it."

  1. Aw, the old 'blame it on the monitors and monitor engineer' defense. Classy. For some reason, I'm going to throw the BS flag on this one and call it like I see (and heard in person at the CMT Music Awards) it... She's just not a strong live singer.

  2. Oh come on, she didn't sound unbearable and when did Stevie become such a great singer. The elephant in the room is that Stevie didn't sound good either.

  3. Ha! Apparently, neither one of you knows anything about singing live!!! The fact is... Stevie IS an amazing singer.... and Taylor won the "Album of the Year"! Can any one of you say the same???

  4. While Stevie has never been technically the best singer in the world, she most definitely can always sing in tune and on pitch. And she has been singing Rhiannon now for 35 friggin years. She was singing fine until Taylor joined in and was off key. Stevie tried to adjust to Taylor and that's whey she then sounded almost as bad as Taylor. And now 5 days later Taylor's record company says it was because her ear monitor wasn't working. But the Grammy people has also said that is bullshit, her monitor was working fine. Her record company is just trying to do damage control because this has gotten so much press. But an interesting fact is that many, many of the articles written talk about the fact that Taylor has a history of singing off key and out of pitch, both at other award shows and in concert. There are even websites called Taylor Swift can't sing.

    ROCK ON STEVIE ! ! !

  5. But that's just it. If the best thing you can say is she's not unbearable, then there's something wrong with this picture. The elephant in the room is that Taylor has never been a strong live singer. Did you miss every other television appearance she's made? CMAs? CMT Music Awards? AMAs? You probably did because you might not have a vested interest in country music. All less than stellar for a person selling albums in the millions and winning arm loads of awards. And I may not be able to say that I've won a Grammy but Milli Vanilli can. Just saying...

And comment above this one, I totally agree. Stevie could do that song in her sleep on pitch. Label guy blamed everyone when he commented on it- the monitors, the critics, even Taylor. All they need to do is get her a vocal coach and get it straightened out. There should have just been an acknowledgment of the problem and a fix, not a defensive attack of everyone. Again, a real classy move.

And PS, I do know something about singing live. I went to school to be an FOH engineer.

  6. If anything, through all this mess, Stevie Nicks has been NOTHING BUT CLASSY!! She came to sing with a young girl that asked for her. She sang basically back-up to her own signature song and then on a "bubble gum" diddy. She has said NOT a word about anything. That she would find 2010 defined by this Taylor Swift moment is not possible. Stevie Nicks is amazing and deserved to be and should have been up there being celebrated on her own!!!

  7. The buzz around Nashville for a while has been that Swift is completely tone-deaf. That Stevie was able to stay on-key while trying to harmonize with someone who's off-key is nothing short of miraculous. It is a true testament to Stevie's awesome talent and enduring professionalism.
