STEVIE NICKS INTERVIEW: Opens up about her iconic fashion moments and rock-star life

As the legendary singer-songwriter releases her first studio album in a decade, she opens up about her iconic fashion moments and rock-star life.

By CHRISTINE LENNON

Stevie Nicks is Team Edward all the way. Honestly, is it any surprise that the now-62-year-old gypsy queen of '70s rock, singer for the epic band Fleetwood Mac, arbiter of romantic, Gothic style, and writer of magical songs about devastating heartbreak is a Twilight fan?

"I saw New Moon when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac," Nicks says, curled up under a white fur throw on an armchair in the Santa Monica condo she shares with her 12-year-old Yorkie, Sulamith. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the sun is setting over the Pacific, and with the room's soft lighting — all chandeliers and crystals — and her elbow-length blonde hair cascading over her shoulders, it's as if she's been beamed down from classic-rock heaven. Nicks is an ageless creature, wearing a handful of gold chains with charms dangling over a navy silk dolman-sleeved top and black pants. Only when she puts on her glasses, an ombré-tinted pair of aviators, does she look her age. "When Bella just sat there in the window, crying for months because she thought she'd never see him again," Nicks trails off, looking wistful about their vampire love. She's had a Bella moment or two herself. "It's happened to me twice, when there was no explanation. It was just over."

  1. Ka-ching, ka-ching! Though that last line is seriously questionable no matter how you define "smoke".

  2. Lol. Great interview! Ka- ching! Ka-ching is right! I recently read no matter who records her song, she gets the royalties, so a #1 for Glee, is a #1 for her! ...And yes, I distinctly remember seeing footage of Stevie smoking... a cigarette... maybe she was just somewhat of a ''social'' hand-to-mouth smoker back then, perhaps for anxiety. Anyway, glad she's still here! Rock-On Gold-Dust Woman! ...without the ''Dust'' of course... lol.

  3. There was an interview she did probably 10 or 15 years ago where she said that she (in her own words) smoked 3 packs of Kool's a day!

o.k., just found the article. Google is amazing!..."She also quit smoking on January 1. 'I was smoking almost three packs a day,' she says in the conspiratorial way. 'Kools. Menthols.'...I would absolutely do a commercial for that [nicotine] patch. The night before I quit, I smoked about 500 cigarettes and drank some hard liquor, which I never do anymore, because I knew it would make me feel extra bad.' Now, if she gets a nic fit, she slaps on a seven-milligram patch, and 'I just go with it.' ", Harper's Bazaar, Nov. '97

  4. either she is old and can't remember or just has selective memory. There are pics of her smoking. Makes you wonder if all the other stuff she tells is a lie too.

  5. I think now she looks at everything from a Marketing/Public Relations standpoint these days, whereas in the past she just said whatever she wanted when she wanted.

I thought the Oprah interview, where Sheryl Crow claimed Stevie warned her not to have kids or she'd never write another song, was actually true. I could totally hear Stevie saying something like that. She's always been melodramatic, but sometimes I think it comes back to haunt her at the most inopportune moments. Which actually makes for great comedy at times. :-)

  8. Wow! Can we not be insulting to other people when they dare to share their opinions?

Put it in perspective and enjoy the ride.
