The Inside Story of the Classic Fleetwood Mac Album
Release date set for April 12, 2012 on the NEW book written by "Rumours" producer Ken Caillat with Steve Stiefel...

Hardcover | 400 pages

Got a question for Ken about the book?... Rumours?... or anything else... Ken will happily answer what he can on the Facebook site set up for the book launch.  Check it out and ask away... He's a cool guy!

Fleetwood Mac′s classic 1977 Rumours album topped the Billboard 200 for thirty–one weeks and won the Album of the Year Grammy. More recently, Rolling Stone named it the 25th greatest album of all time and the hit TV series Glee devoted an entire episode to songs from Rumours, introducing it to a new generation. Now, for the first time, Ken Caillat, the album′s co–producer, tells the full story of what really went into making Rumours—from the endless partying and relationship dramas to the creative struggles to write and record "You Make Lovin′ Fun", "Don′t Stop", "Go Your Own Way", "The Chain", and other timeless tracks.
  • Tells the fascinating, behind–the–music story of the making of Fleetwood Mac′s Rumours, written by the producer who saw it all happen.
  • Filled with new and surprising details, such as Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham′s screaming match while recording "You Make Lovin′ Fun", how the band coped with the pressures of increasing success, how the master tape nearly disintegrated, and the incredible attention paid to even the tiniest elements of songs, from Lindsey playing a chair and to Mick breaking glass.
  • Includes eighty black–and–white photographs.

  2. hope its better than the rubbish written by Carol Ann Harris, with the stolen title 'Storms', that book was such trash!

  3. Cindy~ Peculiar you mention CAH & her novel. I was told by an insider to read Storms. Carol was the longtime g/f of Lindsey. Your input here is appreciated. Take care.

  4. This is going to be awesome. Everyone involved has there own unique perspective of what really went on during this fascinating time in music history. The time spent in San Fransico during the early recording of this masterpiece will be especially fascinating when Chris and Stevie finally put it all down in print. I hope I live long enough to see the day. I know it won't be anytime soon. God knows neither new needs the $$.

  5. I meant neither Stevie or Christine are in need of cash . So I'm guessing it will be along time before we here their side of what went down in Sausilito.

  6. Maury, just because an "insider" told you to read something doesn't mean it is necessarily true. "Insiders" haven't always been known to be truthful. Just look at gossip magazines.

  7. Ran into Ken back in May, in all places, the men's room at The Wiltern on Stevie's birthday. Told him he was the best sound engineer/mixer/producer that ever happened to Stevie or Fleetwood Mac. Glad his book is on the way.

  9. What's funny is when I told Ken that he said, "Wait, WAIT! Say that again a little louder!"!!! He said he had never ever heard Stevie sound better live, and that "the sound was great". I told him I was looking forward for his book. He's really cool and down to earth. His seat was right near Lindsey's.

  11. I wonder how the band feels about the forthcoming book? And, wonder how much they participated? Can't wait though.

  13. I think the band will love this book as it shows how brilliant they all were throughout all the turmoil going on around them.

  15. I can't help but wonder if Ken Caillat is cashing in now because his daughter Colby has become a famous singer and his name is more known than ever. But regardless, I am anxious to hear all his details of the making of this classic Mac album. Stories about so many wonderful songs being recorded and the members of the band. And I do believe he has the blessing of the Mac since he is still friends with them.

  16. Cindy, CAH was basically Lindsey's wife for the period of time she lived with him. Most of what was in the book had been previously printed and was out there. She has a right to tell her story but I had as issue with the timing because of his children. She did support his ideas and did not go after money when she left.

  17. The trouble with Lindsey's old girlfriend Carol Ann Harris' book "Storms" was that she had the reputation for doing more cocaine than the band members when she was around them. And while she certainly had some interesting details and stories about the Mac, she got so many dates and times wrong. Like she talked about Lindsey cutting his hair short for the 1979 Tusk tour and how the other band members were freaked out. But Lindsey had already cut his long hair on the 1978 tour. She also had the wrong year for when Lindsey got his epileptic spine injury the day of the Philadeplphia "Day on the Green" concert at the old JKF Stadium. And throughout her book is got very tiring hearing how she and Lindsey constantly made such fun of Stevie's spaced out personality. And then as time went on how she supposedly became friends with her. And it was very odd that she then chose a Stevie song title to name her book after, instead of one of Lindsey's songs.

I doubt this book by Ken Caillat will be anything like hers.

  18. Well, just remember TRASH sells. If its kind and bland, a no go.

  19. I'm looking forward to reading this book as I've often wondered what happened between Stevie and Lyndsey. The only incident I can find on the internet is the time when Lyndsey drove off, leaving Stevie in Aspen to pen the lovely song "Landslide". I read CAH's book "Storms" and thought it was great. I have no problem believing that a young man given mega-star status and bottomless cocaine trays on a gruelling tour schedule can be abusive. Come on people, happens all the time. From what inner well comes the songs "I'm So Afraid" and "Go Insane". If a few details miss the mark, what the hey...it's been over 30 yrs. Nonetheless, its great that we have youtube and can watch some live footage and interviews to revisit some of these stories and hear the music again.

  20. Fascinating! I had no idea of everything that goes into making an album. The details of how an album is made, to me, were more interesting than the stories about the lives of the band. If you followed the music of Fleetwood - and I never did - you'll enjoy this book.

I don't agree with the comment about Ken "cashing in" because of his famous singer-daughter, Colbie. Millions know Colbie, but ask them who her father is and maybe only a handful could tell you that.
