Audio: Stevie Nicks Confirms.. This year is all about In Your Dreams - 2013 all about Fleetwood Mac

Stevie Nicks says Fleetwood Mac will tour in 2013. When asked about the tour while on the red carpet for the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, Nicks said “It absolutely is, yes. I am taking the rest of this year for my In Your Dreams record that I love so much. And then 2013 is the Fleetwood Mac tour.” She said rehearsals will begin in January. When asked about a new Fleetwood Mac album, though, she didn’t respond, leading fans to speculate that the tour will focus on the band’s four decades of classic material.

  1. I would really, really prefer a new Mac album followed by a tour. I honestly get the feeling 'Say You Will' will end up being the last Mac album of original material. I can only imagine the wealth of new material Stevie wrote for 'In Your Dreams' that ended up not making that record. I have to wonder if it was just a sense of loyalty that pulled her back to Mac; with 'In Your Dreams,' I get the sense she would love to go back and record another album the way she recorded that one.

I will of course go to see the Mac on tour, but I'm not sure I want to hear another 'Greatest Hits' tour.

  2. Not another greatest hits tour....Enough already. A new Fleetwood Mac album is needed. Lindsey and Stevie are such prolific songwriters there is no need to keep resting on past accomplishments. Come on guys,I know there is at least one great album left.

  3. I just don't understand the tour with Rod Stewart. She should do her own show everywhere for IYD. And for pete's sake, not another FM greatest hits tour. Ummmm....that has been done. Love them all, but give us old timer fans something new to hear.

  4. I agree with everyone here. To reiterate an earlier post, FLEETWOOD MAC has put out stunning, landmark albums time and time again, and yes, in my mind that includes SAY YOU WILL. Another tour? That's all? That's it? We've waited 10 years for new material. We hear the band's reuniting and get excited only to learn their plan is to Hoover up dollars all over America off the old hits. It's very disappointing. I'm sure they'll be up to their usual professional standards in concert and I wish them the best, but energetically this doesn't seem right. It's not the bold FLEETWOOD MAC choice I was hoping for.

  5. I'm going to agree also. It's sad for such talented people to be doing their "Souvenir of the Seventies " tour over and over again. Stevie did Bella Donna because she had more music than she could record with Fleetwood Mac. And with Stevie and Lindsey's newest albums, it's obvious they at one of the most creative points of their careers. It's a shame they'll be spending up to a year doing the exact same thing they were doing in 1977.

  6. I would love to hear more from Tango in The Night and Say You Will in the new tour :)

  7. Stevie is a prolific journal writer...but that doesn't necessarily translate into songwriting. I really think if she had a strong collection of new material, she would be pushing for a new album with the Mac.

She's relying on her accolades these days...and probably for the rest of her career. In her mind, I think she believes she's paid her dues, and now she just wants recognition. There's a certain sense of entitlement today that wasn't there in the past. In the "old" days, she would have never dreamed of going out on the road without new material, but I don't think she views the Mac as a creative outlet anymore...only a cash cow.

When you have millions of dollars in the bank and multiple luxury homes, your passion can't possibly match that of an artist just starting out...determined to make his/her place in the world.

All things considered, it really is a miracle In Your Dreams ever saw the light of day, and I think Dave Stewart deserves the lion's share of the credit for that project.

  8. I don't think it's Stevie or Lindsey who views Fleetwood Mac as a cash cow. The responsibility on that one belongs to(Mr. $ sign)Mick Fleetwood! ONLY Stevie AND Lindsey, being the sole SONGWRITERS of Fleetwood Mac at this point, would stand to make any money off of a NEW fleetwood Mac record and I don't think Mick has ANY interest in "wasting" a year in the studio making an album that will have almost zero gain for him financially. I think he made that ABUNDTANTLY clear in the playboy interview he gave this year in which chastised Stevie for supporting IYD and "working 20 times harder for less money than she could make in Fleetwood Mac". Obviously, Mick doesn't know what it means to be a true artist. Lindsey, on the other hand, used the opportunity to do exactly what Stevie is doing...touring behind a project that he believes in, even if it is more work. I have more respect for both of them as arists for doing so.

  9. Okay - this is getting really interesting now because the business of a band always has an enormous influence - good or bad. The men of FM should form a splinter band called HOSTAGES OF STEVIE - meaning it should be clear to everyone by now that Stevie - who they weren't really sure was talented enough for THEM - pays the bills for the 3 men of FLEETWOOD MAC who decided late in life they wanted to start families. But it's still FLEETWOOD MAC and working conditions in FM are notoriously like being in the army. The French Resistance? Okay - GO YOUR OWN WAY and RHIANNON it all to your heart's content. But may we lowly fans at least have some new songs? Please?

  10. Also - to put something else right - Christine is NEVER coming back again. I wish she were also, but it's not gonna happen in this world. I love her so much and miss her so much and when Stevie talks about her one understand the profound loss to the band her exit was. But, of course, with FLEETWOOD MAC, the secret theme of SAY YOU WILL was Christine's exit - made obvious with Stevie's title song - which was Stevie pretending to be Christine - in a very charming and endearing way...

  11. I would love new music, even if they just recorded a few songs in hopes of getting one or two actually on the radio. But I certainly would not mind another greatest hits tour. And would love if they mixed it up a bit, which I think they will. Stevie should drop Storms and do Sisters Of The Moon. And I still like the orignial Fleetwood Mac version of Big Love with the whole band playing, wish Lindsey would do it that way.

I'm just glad to get to go see them again.

  12. Yea they should do some different Christine songs: Think About Me, Hold Me, after all Lindsey already sings a lot on these two.

  13. i think everyone who wrote any opinion here is wrong.

    no, i don't.

we're lucky, though, for anything, at their ages. it's getting tough for me- going to see any bands- be it mac, the stones, heart- i get in the arena and see the band and think 'well i came to see them, but didn't go see grandma in the nursing home.' Guilt.
Is 64- SN- or about to turn 70- mick jagger-too old to rock and roll? YES. There's just a gap of generations, not many rock stars born in the '60s and '70s who can sell out the big tours, so it's the old rock stars born in the 1940s and 1950s who are still the biggest touring acts, which puts them and the audiences in a state of denial about aging of the rock star and of themselves. Yet, you look around and see all the middle-aged people in the audience, and in SN's case, a lovely looking woman looking far younger than her 64 years, and there's some kind of delusion this is all ok, they sound as good as ever and 'remain ageless'. But it's a creepy time warp.

See ya at the Stevie and Lindsey shows this summer! :)

  14. Given I can't force them to hit the studio in January, I'm for a 2013 tour (with a ROCKING NEW setlist) as long as they HIT THE STUDIO in 2014. For ONE. LAST. ALBUM.

And can someone please fill me on every single degrees of suspected drama leading to Christine's departure? As someone said above: Say You Will, written by Stevie from Christine's POV directed at Ms. Nicks? What happened between Christine and Stevie? Or Christine and Lindsey...??

  15. I read that it was Stevie's plea to Christine to please stay in the band. It was also inspired by HBO's Arturo Sandoval film starring Andy Garcia. Several times Lindsey's said that Christine "burned her bridges", so it does sound like there was some drama, but I don't think between Stevie and Chris, cause Stevie said in DESTINY RULES in typically direct Stevie style (probably to the guys' annoyance) something like, "If there was any chance she was going to do this we would have waited". You can just imagine how furious Mick must have been when THE DANCE tour became one of the sensations of 1997 and could have gone on an on earning untold millions more, but Christine stopped it after the agreed-upon 40 dates. Flys on walls can only speculate further....

    ReplyDelete
  16. When the Dance tour started Christine had already gotten sick of the California earthquakes and was ready to move back to England, and then on tour she developed a fear of flying and didn't like touring anymore. Then by the end of the fall 1997 US tour when the band was gearing up for the rest of the world tour in 1998 she said she was done. She said she had given over half her life to Fleetwood Mac and was tired, she is after all the oldest member of the band, now at 69 years old. I don't think there was any bad blood anywhere as far as she was concerned, I think she had just had enough.

  17. Most acts with FM's longevity rely on "greatest hits" tours to remain relevant to a live audience. When was the last time you or anyone wanted to hear a NEW Rolling Stones or Aerosmith song at a concert? About 20 years ago. Granted FM's longtime fans crave new music, but the base they are playing to, the masses, could care less, bring out the hits. This tour is for Mick Fleetwood's piggy bank, it was pretty obvious he needs the $$ from that article. They are always good live, but if the set list is playing it too safe or similar to the last tour, I will not be attending, especially if Stevie is just going to be zoned out and bored looking like on Unleashed.

  18. It's hard to be an Aerosmith and Fleetwood Mac fan. From band fights to the lack of new material. Now, I don't want to hear new Aerosmith songs b/c from 1985 and on their music sucked!!! Thanks to Steven and his pop ways...

Mac on the other hand, actually released a great album in 2003.

Aerosmith JUST WRAPPED their first album in 10 years. Funny how the pace of these bands mirror each other in many ways!

  19. The truth is, Christine refused to continue being an Illuminati slave to the music industry. She was scared and sickened whilst the band played on.

  20. I'm grateful that my favorite band since the age of ten (that's forty years ago) is still able to tour.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wish they treated us to tours every two years. They certainly have enough material.

  22. Seems that FM are riding the wave of Nostalgia acts these days.
It was encouraging to witness Stevie's spark of creativity with IYD and the short tour she did with the material, but it, alas has peaked.
Even with all the numerous TV spots, I run into people who think Stevie is residing in the "Where are they now" files!
There is a new generation of music fans--and some, believe it or not, great music being created. i.e. Decemberists,Bon Iver, Fleetfoxes, etc. and the "older" bands like Coldplay, Green Day, etc. that are still selling out arenas.
As much as I love FM and SN, it would be a sad thing to see them reduced to a casino nostalgia act along with the one remaining member of Three Dog Night and Paul Revere and the Raiders!:-(
Mick, however, NEEDS the $$ to continue his lavish lifestyle in Hawaii and fund his impending divorce. So he will drive it to the ground.
There will always be that last FAREWELL TOUR

    ReplyDelete
  23. FM will never become a casino nostalgia act. They could absolutely sell out arenas every 2 years!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think so. their audience is aging out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There audience isn't aging.. They have a new generation of fans and I am one of them.. I saw Mac in December 09 and Stevie Nov 11 and id have to say I saw more 20-30 something's than 40+ers.. Especially at Stevie.. I will say though it was here in Australia
