Interview Stevie Nicks: ‘I was so sick — I couldn’t shower. I almost died’

Saturday's edition of The Times UK has a four page interview spread with Stevie. Check out the full interview at Fleetwoodmac-UK.com

The Fleetwood Mac singer talks about her past lovers, drugs hell — and why, at 68, she’s not too old to get married

  1. So, she's too old to record another album but she's planning on touring for another 40 years? And we're back to "the love of my life, Joe Walsh". Same guy who trashed her on Howard Stern. Whatever, Stevie.

  2. Stevie stated, "Recording another 'Fleetwood Mac Album' would mean a year in the studio; because it always takes a year for Fleetwood Mac to record a new album and I'm too old. We should just tour because albums don't sell anymore" more or less. And, ANONYMOUS, I'm not sure what interview with Howard Stern, you listened but the interview dated 6/4/12, Joe said Stevie helped him write on his new album due around the same date.

  3. she is not 40 anymore but now she wants to get married her whole life is ahead of her yet too old to make a new fleetwood mac record REALLY!
I never beleived joe walsh was even a serious boyfriend she was so stoned when she was with him im surprised she can remember his name, joe walsh his an A hole and never says anything good about stevie so I am really started to think that maybe stevie is suffering from dementia , she doesn't what to remember fleetwood mac or her fan's , she seems to have forgotten if not for lindsey buckingham she would never have had a career anyone who hears her demos knows what magic he worked on them to turn them into hit songs none of her solo stuff is ever as good as her mac stuff never will be, such a shame she wont do right by the fan's and just do one more album with the mac and end this the right way!

  4. I feel there will be another album, eventually....but it would most likely be on Stevie's terms and not take a whole year. It seem to me after the recording of 24 Karat Gold, recordeded and completed in such a short time(weeks) her view on recording has changed. And she is at a certain age. I know many 65+ and it seems they have the same personality trait, it becomes more about them.
    i know here it comes...

  5. Stevie Nicks has the voice to enhance/ brighten/ uplift any recording that she chose to do. When yo get to my age you should be free to choose which you will do without peer pressure. Whatever she does, I wish her well. I love what she did regardless of who it was with. Go Stevie!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone had said that I wanted to go see seniors playing all my old favourites I wuold have said "You are crazy" but here I am, seen the Eagles/Steve Miller/Bob Seger and still waiting to go see Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks. You go girl!!!!

  6. Ted, I agree with you. Comments like Stevie may be suffering from dementia and her being selfish are just uncalled for. Same goes for the nasty comments about her singing and songwriting. It seems that out of all of the group members, Stevie has the most selfish, self-serving and most unforgiving fans of all. The minute she does something they don't like, she is viciously attacked. She has a right to do whatever she wants. If a fan is a true fan, they know this is just the way she is, it's nothing new. If I were Stevie, I would say forget it and retire due to the negativity from her so called fans and abuse. She LOVES to tour and she has never been say about saying that and that she would rather do that than record. It's true that we would all like new music but it isn't the end of the world if she never records again. Lindsey and Christine have decided to go ahead with their project with or without her and that's fine. There is still time for them to pull together a Fleetwood Mac album if they so desire. They can go to Nashville and record it within a few months like Stevie did with 24k Gold. Lindsey is the one who makes it a long, drawn out process which isn't necessary in this day and age.

  7. I'm a Fleetwood Mac fan, not a Stevie fan, and I think that when you're in a band, when you're commited to a band, you can't do whatever you want. You can't say 'no' to an album recording and then tour with your bandmates and pretend that everything is ok. I don't think that ever happened. But of course Queen Stevie can do whatever she wants! About album recording, like I read in another thread, unless you know the recording process you shouldn't comment. And you shouldn't also blame Lindsey just because Stevie says so. She's the only one who have problems with Lindsey's recording process. Wonder why.

    1. Christine said no to album and toured with them afterwards and no-one seemed upset.

  8. Christine and Lindsey don't have a problem releasing this CD without Stevie. It's not easy working with an ex. Stevie just stated that she and Lindsey are not the best of friends. Remember that Stevie left Lindsey, he didn't leave her. Even though it's been years, I can imagine that it still bothers Lindsey in some way and that's why they don't get along. They also like to push each other's buttons and that gets old after a while. Stevie is still committed to the band as far as touring. No one knows what she is going to do but Stevie. If they don't want Stevie to tour with them, she can continue her solo career. After all of these years together, I am sure they aren't surprised by her actions.

  9. What Rhiannon said....from what Ive read Lindsey and Christine seem resigned but hopeful. This band has been through a few incarnations but the main core keeps stable and reforming (prob due in part to papa Mick lol)
As far as resentments over Stevie's actions,I doubt it by this point.
Theyre prob past that. Hasnt always been that way. Seem to remember back after TITN was completed and Lindsey had enough ( I believe it was huge mess, everybody had issues esp Stevie, he said she was so effed up he barely recognized her) that he literally refused to tour after the album.
Isnt that when he reportedly had Stevie screaming and pounding on him for leaving ugh
I guess one of the reasons a lot of fans are stressing about her not taking part in album is because we fear this is prob the final act, it puts more pressure on everyone.

  10. So maybe Lindsey should leave the band, because seriously, everything that happens in Stevie's life seems to be Lindsey's fault! If they're not the best of friends then why all the fuss? Lindsey clearly moved on. He got married and had three kids, so I can't imagine him being STILL angry at Stevie for leaving him. HE moved on. Stevie said MANY things on interviews and then changes her mind the next day. One day she's not even friends with Lindsey and the next day she plans to live with him in San Jose when they're 90 years old. I can't believe they're still mixing personal feelings with profesional affairs.

  11. I wonder if Tony Bennett believes he's"too old" and that his records don't sell?.Stevie needs to change, cut her hair shorter, dress really nice, enough with the wool blanket , and Wolf skin.what's wrong with changing styles of music, she could sing country, she could do jazz, folk etc.I'm glad for this music because Christine McVie might finally get some real credit which is long overdue!
Lindsey may be hard to work with, but I don't know anyone who cares about how her songs sound Than he.even the man she really"always"wanted to be on stage with said Lindsey was the best person for sorting out her songs.I wish our Miss Nicks the best.

  12. You must live under a rock. The 10-20,000 people that attend FM concerts care about and are interested in hearing Nicks music & Christine's. Not the 500-1000 that show up to a LB show. Man can't sing - but he can play!

  13. With protools recording software it's a lot easier and quicker to record an album. Stevie Nicks could make a killer country album and no musician has better country riffs and banjo licks than Lindsey Buckingham. Stevie has a big ego and so does Lindsey and it's too bad Stevie refuses to work with Lindsey... her loss. I like how Christie values and appreciates Lindsey's effort and talent while working on Christie's songs. I hope the Buckingham Mc Vie album will have a lot of songs recorded with Mick Fleetwood and John Mc Vie aka:Fleetwood Mac.

  14. This is not a negative post, although, it may start out sounding like one. I've seen FM and or Stevie over 50 times since I was 17 years old (now 50).I didn't see the last FM tour or Stevie's last tour (before this one). I honestly felt that there was just nothing new to see. I have seen every twirl, every nuance remembered and anything new or different seems less and less. Even Lindsey does barely anything to change it up over the last few tours. I would think that would be boring for him. Anyway, after reading about Stevie's latest tour and how she was truly going to go out for her die-hard fans and do a show for them, I really thought I had to go, but I didn't get tickets at first. I thought, I'll bet she does maybe 3 obscure songs and that's it, the rest will be the same 'ol, same 'ol. Once the tour kicked off and I saw the set lists online, that was it, I was going! I got good last minute seats to her Vegas show in December. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW! 'Moonlight' was POWERFUL and I'll bet half or more of the audience had never heard it before, but it brought the house down. She really is doing this show for herself and her fans. And, she deserves it, after all these years. It was amazing to see these songs done live and hear a story about each one. I may even go see it again on the next round. With that said, I am surprised that she would be so dismissive about another FM record. While her argument could be seen as valid, I have my suspicions. She has said nothing but positive things about Christine being back, even saying that they are even closer now, I wonder still, if there might be a little resentment. She's also said "well Chris was gone for 16 years and I stuck it out..." As others have mentioned. If Stevie wanted to participate in a new FM record there are many, many ways for her to do it. Even if she "phoned it in" so to speak. She has tons of songs she could give to Lindsey, let him do all the work. And, yes, she did 24K Gold and entire album of her own in record time. So, I think her reasoning for not doing one falls a little short. Lindsey could be reworking some of her songs now, she comes in and does a few vocals, add some harmonies to some of their tracks. I would love for one final album by the five of them. I'm really surprised that she won't do it. Saying "well nobody will buy it, anyway." So a painter shouldn't paint because that painting may not sell?

    ReplyDelete
  15. General question: The artwork/painting of the band in the Mirage sleeve, does anyone know if that is available anywhere for sale? Poster size or otherwise? I love that painting and how it's obscured. I would love a frameable print of that painting.

  16. Considering how many rock n roll icons/Legends (David Bowie - Glen Frey - Prince)have passed away... a brand new Fleetwood Mac album would make news headlines on every continent on the planet.

And considering all the love, respect and support Lindsey, Christie, Mick and John have for Stevie I think it's cold of Stevie to refuse to work with Fleetwood Mac in a recording studio. Stevie could of at least sang harmony vocals on Christie Mc Vie's songs.

Stevie should let the past go and be more supportive and productive with Fleetwood Mac. Singing Harmony vocals wouldn't take much time at all and Stevie could probably sing harmony vocals at her own house.

  17. Massive Stevie fan here, but I've wanted to post this for a long time as sort of a PSA more than anything. I have suffered from panic and anxiety for most of my life. About ten years ago or so my doctor suggested that I take Klonopin as it is excellent at treating those issues and much, much less addictive then Xanax and Valium, but with a similar calming affect. For years, I would say no. Stevie's dramatic Klonopin story always popped in my head. While I was too embarrassed to tell my doctor why I refused to take it- because a rock star had a doctor who over prescribed the drug in high doses became addicted to it and it ruined her 40's- how foolish of me. And, the way Stevie continues to tell that story in the way she tells it is very irresponsible. I finally took the advice from a different doctor two years ago and I am so incredibly glad I did. Klonopin (low dose) taken when needed, has changed my life. Possibly, it has saved my life. I don't suffer from depression, just the occasional unexplainable bout of anxiety or feelings of panic. Anyway- I love you Stevie, but STOP telling that story without clarifying that you were taking too much. You were being over prescribed a medication that taken correctly can be a life saver. I still love you. And, for good measure, your recent tour changed my life in a wonderful way too! All the best.

  19. What a bunch of B.S. from Nicks regarding the Mac album. She spends a fraction of the time in the studio that the others do, and never was needed in studio for a year. Clearly, Nicks didn't want to do the album and is making up excuses to cover her ass. She had plenty of time for that less than stellar collection of rejected tracks she put out in 2014. I don't think she has any new songs to offer - none! Look at her "recent' output (last 15 years or so)and it's mostly old and older songs passed over or rehashed. I think Nicks knew she'd have the fewest and worst songs on the new Mac record and bailed. How old is the "nobody buys records" excuse she keeps spewing? I thought she was an "artist" who was so prolific that she couldn't record her vast output. Nicks doesn't need the money, would have most of the work done by the other four (as usual) and supposedly has vaults of songs just waiting to be recorded, so I think she's full of it. Get over yourself and Lindsey and try writing a contemporary song worthy of recording you spoiled nitwit!

  20. If you don't like what Stevie is doing, you don't need to be such a vicious fool about it. This "spoiled nitwit" (really?) as you call her, has more money than you probably do.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What does having money have to do with Stevie Nick's integrity or anything?
    I'm always baffled by this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rhiannon, you also don't need to defend her every time someone says something you don't like about her, and yet you do it. Please tell me again why is it so important that Stevie has more money than all of us? Of course she is, and I couldn't care less! I'm sure she would trade some of her fortune for a bit of her bandamates' talent. We all know this thing about recording time and nobody buy records anymore is pure B.S. She doesn't want to participate. End of story. I'm glad Lindsey finally cut the chain and decided to share his talent and passion with Christine, his true musical partner. Buckingham Nicks only existed because of Lindsey's talent. Even Mick saw it when he hired Lindsey, not Stevie.
I bet all four are crying in a corner because they only have talent, while Stevie has the money. To only mention her fortune as the highlight of her life says so much about her!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I dont think the other 4 are destitute.....lol
Stevie herself has said that Lindsey has more money than any of them, because 1) he never spent it like they did and 2) he was the producer so he was paid for songwriting and producing and 3) producers get paid before anyone else. (all this according to her)
She said he originally only bought the one house that he had forever, whereas the others had multiple residences etc.
It sounds like he was more thrifty.
She did say she and Lindsey got money managers early on and invested but who knows. He doesnt talk his finances and she's been known to contradict herself.
Yes I get that she should do what she feels, just wish she'd choose her words more carefully so she doesnt alienate her fan base. She sounds cynical, and forgets that we're aware of the Mac past.(that she doesnt need to be in studio for a year) All I hear are unlikely excuses and concerns about money. And she doesn't owe us anything actually. Just say no comment, Im not doing a FM album, but I want to do a tour.
When she justifies, makes excuses, get caught in little lies, then her fans pick it apart and get frustrated.
As far as the comments about how she would never have got where she's at without Lindsey, thats true. Then again would Lindsey be who he was without having her in his life before FM?
They both have said she totally supported him to the point of putting him first while she worked and he practiced.
BUT once she was in the band, everything turned around, as Lindsey sings in GYOW.
She was beautiful and charismatic and a focal point in the band. Add their 3 harmonies and it was magic.

    1. It's been said countless times...the sum of the parts far exceeds the value of each. Even Nicks. Fleetwood Mac is all five. Stevie probably would have never had a successful solo career without Fleetwood Mac's musical craftsmanship & possibly that little gem of a song Petty dropped in her lap that propelled Bella Donna to platinum status in a few weeks after it's release.

  24. Just went to see Steve Nicks at Manchester NH, Steve we came to hear you sing, not to listen to your life's history! We left the concert as we wanted to hear your music. If you want to talk or have folks listen, write a book, or get a talk show invitation! 24 Cart tour very disappointing.

  25. Without a doubt, the new "Buckingham / Mcvie" - Record is the best what Members of Fleetwood Mac have done musically since the late 80s Tango in the night - Album, even without Steve Nicks.

  27. Some icons think before they speak when speaking to the press. Mick Jagger has been guarded since 1963! Others, like Stevie, shoot straight from the hip, they tell it like it is. That's all. She's cool.
