Fleetwood Mac Live in New York City
Madison Square Garden April 8, 2013

Fleetwood Mac always finds a way to keep things fresh.

Nearly the entire set Monday night at Madison Square Garden came from last century, including more than half of "Rumours," recently rereleased in a 35th anniversary format.

However, the band - singer Stevie Nicks, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie - still filled the songs with as much urgency as they gave the new, upbeat tune "Sad Angel," which feels a bit like an R.E.M. song, and the previously unreleased "Without You" from their Buckingham Nicks days, which convinced Fleetwood the duo should join his band.  Both new songs are on a new EP that could be released as soon as this week, Buckingham said from the stage.

"Every time we come together, it's different," he said. "After all this time, we're still evolving."  He and Nicks each proved this in their own ways. Nicks, who was in fine voice the whole night, reworked "Rhiannon" to make it more emotional, while toughening up parts of "Landslide."  Buckingham, whose fiery guitar work kept the energy level high, stripped back the opening of "Tusk" to make it sound like a White Stripes song.  They offered plenty of surprises, which will only grow as the tour continues.

The tour returns to the Prudential Center on April 24 and Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on June 22.

The Mac is back!  On April 8, 2013, Fleetwood Mac tore the roof off the sold out Madison Square Garden in New York.  I’ve been a Fleetwood Mac fan for as long as I can remember, and I have seen them in concert about 10 times since they reunited in 1997 plus numerous solo shows by both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.  Separately, they are geniuses in their own right, but when they get together on stage, they are electric!  For the FM fans that have seen it all when it comes to this band, you cannot honestly say it anymore without seeing this tour.

REVIEW: Fleetwood Mac Philadelphia 4/6/13 "Lindsey Buckingham still plays head-shakingly good guitar"

Fleetwood Mac in Philly: Good playing, songs and singing don't add up to great show

Fleetwood Mac’s show Saturday at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center had many of the ingredients that made the band such a force of nature in the 1970s, with nine Top 20 songs  and 28 million albums sold.

Lindsey Buckingham still plays head-shakingly good guitar – in fact, if anything, his playing was better than ever. Stevie Nicks still has a voice, and simply a presence, that invokes the emotions those songs carried.

And, of course, there are those songs themselves: Partially the soundtrack to the lives of many in the generally older, sold-out crowd.

But on Saturday, the parts of the 23-song, 140-minute show didn’t always add up to the whole you expect with Fleetwood Mac. And sometimes even the parts fell short of expectations.

"There are two or three things we’re hoping to get on the Internet as an EP" - Mick Fleetwood on Fleetwood Mac's NEW Release

Drummer Mick Fleetwood talks 'Rumours' revival
AM New York
by: Hal Bienstock

Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is one of the 10 best-selling albums of all time. What keeps it fresh 35 years later is not only the music itself, but the stories behind the songs. The album was recorded as two couples — Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and John and Christine McVie — were in the process of breaking up, and the album reflects that tension and emotion. A deluxe edition of “Rumours” was recently reissued, complete with outtakes and live tracks.

amNY spoke with drummer Mick Fleetwood as the 2013 edition of the band — with John McVie, Buckingham and Nicks — got ready for a tour.

What do you think when you listen to “Rumours” today? I think it was a miracle we were able to make it because of all the stuff that was going on. I love it. It’s a complete piece of work. They were really well put together songs, then you have the whole dynamic and the story of “How the hell did that bunch of people survive the emotional journey they were on?”

Is there still pain when you play these songs? We remember all of it. It makes us reconnect to what was going on then, but we look at it from increasingly different angles. We’re all older and more forgiving. It’s not super, super painful. What it is now is super, super interesting.

Are you working on new music? There are two or three things we’re hoping to get on the Internet as an EP. … In my opinion, Lindsey’s songs are some of the best stuff he’s done. I’d love to think we could put some of Stevie’s stuff together with it, then we’d have another Fleetwood Mac album. That’s my little pipe dream.

There’s a perception that these days Fleetwood Mac is a business as much as a band. Is there any truth to that? I so don’t identify with that. For one thing, if we were running a business, we’d be working a lot more. Stevie and Lindsey have been in love since they were 16. ... There are some bands that made great music, but don’t give a s--- about each other. In truth, we care too much about each other. That flame is very much about to get to lit up again.

If you go: Fleetwood Mac is at Madison Square Garden Monday night at 8, 4 Penn Plz., 212-465-6073, $79.50-$179.50. Ticketmaster

Fleetwood Mac Live in Philadelphia April 6, 2013
"Sister of The Moon"
Wells Fargo Center

Finally a full complete version!

This completely rocks!!... and Stevie's added the 'be my' a little more in front of the 'sistas' part, so the song is still evolving a little bit... She's into it!  Lindsey should be jumping in on the song with his "Some call her Sister of the Moon, some say illusions where her game, they like to wrap her in velvet, does anyone know her name" just like the Mirage video from 1982... and look at her while he's singing it - because the song IS about her... It would rock!  Other than that, Stevie sounds amazing on this... very dark, intense and even though you can't really hear the girls howling in the background, what you can hear sounds really cool. I think this sounds amazing! So happy it's back after 30 years!
SO AFRAID

Review: The return of Fleetwood Mac
Steve Klinge, FOR THE INQUIRER

Instability is a constant in Fleetwood Mac. Since its inception in 1967, drummer Mick Fleetwood has been the only permanent member, although bassist John McVie joined almost immediately thereafter. And the band's classic late '70s lineup, with Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, reached its creative peak when its interpersonal relationships were at their most tumultuous.
"It's different every time. That's the way it is with this band: it's always a work in progress," Buckingham said during Saturday's sold-out show at the Wells Fargo Center, the second night of the band's first tour in more than three years. The 23-song, 2-and-a-half hour set favored the hits, including most of 1977's Rumours, while adding some surprises.

In the absence of Christine McVie, who left in 1998, the core quartet added two backing vocalists and two utility musicians. The band, however, was at its best when at its most elemental, and Buckingham was the central force with his aggressive, impressive guitar playing and his unrestrained, often manic energy.

That energy anchored punchy pop songs, such as "Second Hand News," "Go Your Own Way" and the new "Sad Angel," as well as earnest acoustic songs, such as "Never Going Back Again," "Without You" and "Big Love" (from 1987's Tango in the Night). He's an underrated guitar hero, and the lengthy solo that concluded "I'm So Afraid" found the youthful 63-year-old feigning exhaustion.

Nicks, 64, was less dramatic and mobile, and her voice took a while to warm up. Although she shifted the melodies of "Dreams" and "Rhiannon" to avoid the high notes, the rarely performed "Sisters of the Moon" was eerie and powerful and the inescapable "Landslide," accompanied only by Buckingham on acoustic guitar, was lovely and sincere.

After an encore that featured a drum solo from Fleetwood, joyous and indefatigable at age 70, Buckingham and Nicks returned to the stage hand-in-hand. Buckingham introduced "Say Goodbye" by saying, "It's about closure, as much of the dialogue between us seems to be."

That closure is still a work in process: the band has a new EP on the way.
