NEW Untitled Stevie Nicks Solo Album

THE NASHVILLE SESSIONS:

Talk on the town says she might go solo: Stevie Nicks recording new album with @DaveStewart in Nashville

Here she is... In Nashville!  Couple of facebook postings today from Dave Stewart in Nashville with Stevie recording... What they are recording hasn't been officially announced from either Stevie or Dave or made clear from the little information that's been gathered, nor for what project, whether it be solo or Fleetwood Mac... All we have to go on is what Mick indicated at a recent book signing with Jenny Boyd in L.A. on April 26th.  It's feeling like we'll be seeing a new solo album from Stevie before long!  And if they've been recording since Easter Sunday, and Mick believes they've got about 2 weeks to hammer it out, then they've got the rest of this week to get'r done!

Mick Fleetwood signing books at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles yesterday (April 26, 2014) had the opportunity to speak with fans for a moment or two while he was signing books.... During one exchange with a Fleetwood Mac fan known on the ledge as HelloMonster, Mick dropped a few tidbits of info about what Stevie is doing in Nashville... Actually, more than a tidbit... it's more of a bombshell.

Photo: The Sound LA

Here's the conversation transcribed from an audio recording after the initial greeting and takes off where the Nashville topic was brought up:

HelloMonster
"What's going on in Nashville?"

Mick
"Ah, she's making ah, Stevie's making an album."

HelloMonster
"her own, or not"

Mick
" I think it's going to be a first for her where's she's doing that Nashville thing where they go in and just all the musicians just play the songs and they get it all done really quickly... we're hoping."

HelloMonster
"I heard that she is there with Dave, and Christine was seen in Nashville too, are they all doing something together".

Mick
"Dave's producing it.. Stewart. Ah, and she's using the wrecking crew down there, to my knowledge, where they all just come in and jam out the songs in like two weeks and tell you to go home.

HelloMonster
"but it's not for your new album" (meaning Fleetwood Mac)

Mick
"If she doesn't, she's not going to finish her album."

And that was all the audio that was captured...  So.  Here we have Stevie in Nashville working on a new album, with Christine and Dave while Lindsey, Mick, Christine and presumably John have or had space rented at The Village working on new Fleetwood Mac tunes, or demos or something... This is kind of confusing.  It's cool if Stevie's working on a new album, and I suppose if you are looking for a way to make that happen in a short period of time, then Dave Stewart, his crew of musicians in Nashville and Blackbird Studios is the way to go... given that Dave was able to knock out his last two albums with the same crew in Nashville spending very little time recording.  Let's see where this all leads.  I'd prefer new Fleetwood Mac music with the 5 back together given that we've had solo albums recently from Lindsey and Stevie and haven't heard anything from Christine in years... But if Christine is involved with Stevie's new project, then this is cool... It just seemed to make a little more sense to have a full on Fleetwood Mac project on the go, to go along with the tour, given the reuniting of the famous 5.  But at this stage in the game... I'll gladly take new music from any of them in any form.  As long as they are creating and moving forward, that's the main thing.

Thanks to HelloMonster for the audio recording.

Kat Perkins nails Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" on #TheVoice song rockets to No.1 on iTunes

Kat Perkins nails another Fleetwood Mac tune on last nights "The Voice".  This time... Fleetwood Mac's beautiful "Landslide" written by Stevie Nicks. She really did a nice job on the song.  Kat has such a strong voice. It's hard to cover songs so ingrained in the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac fans... but I think her interpretation only elevated the song.

After the performance Adam Levine made a great point by saying he was happy she introduced the song to people who may not be familiar with the 1970's hit.

Take the response on iTunes for instance.  Kat's version of "Landslide" is currently the No.1 Rock Song in the U.S., with the original version by Fleetwood Mac at No.3.  On the Top 200 Singles Chart the original Fleetwood Mac version of "Landslide" is No.180.

You can download last nights performance of Landslide on itunes

You may recall Kat sang "Gold Dust Woman" earlier in the season.  Again, she did the song justice. You can check out that performance HERE. She also performed the Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks 1978 top 5 hit "Whenever I Call You Friend".  It's also available on iTunes.

This is hilarious! Mr. Buckingham relaxing with his dogs at home

This is hilarious! Mr. Buckinghams dogs just hanging out at home on the bed... But that bone has caused some tension.  Lindsey looks like he's just relaxing...Lindsey says. "Mommies going to post this, see... That's the problem. It's going to end up on, you know, Jimmy Fallon or something".... Then Lindsey says "Hi Jimmy why don't you have me on your show".

Fleetwood Mac Chart Updates PLUS Stevie Nicks sales boost in wake of Tonight Show performance

Two weeks worth of updates.

U.S.A. - April 26, 2014
In the U.S., on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart, Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" moves up to No.132 in it's second week back in the top 200 after re-entering at no.187 the previous week.  A nice boost for the album after Stevie appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon April 9th. During the sales period that ended April 13th, "Edge of Seventeen" also saw a nice gain in sales registering 5,000 downloads following her performance - it's best sales week in exactly a year according to Billboard. When you think of it, it's a little odd "Edge of Seventeen" saw the sales boost given that "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", also performed that night, with Jimmy and Stevie re-creating the 1981 video, was more of a media sensation, yet "Edge of Seventeen" saw the sales bump.  Also up 12 spots on the chart is "The Very Best Of" to No.180.

# 180 (192) Fleetwood Mac - The Very Best Of

U.S.A. - May 3, 2014
With Record Store Day on April 19th and the new single vinyl release of "Dragon Fly" from 1971, Fleetwood Mac register significant enough sales to enter the Top 25 Hot Singles Sales Chart at No.9. Not bad for a song over 40 years old... and on vinyl no less. In it's third week back on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart Rumours moves down to No.177.  The Very Best Of drops out of the top 200 this week and out of the top 50 on the Catalogue Chart.

Mick Fleetwood goes his own way: "I AM A wearer of hats."

by Mick Fleetwood
Sunday Express

I've always worn hats, many hats, too many hats at times, and even though I've never given losing my hair much thought, hats have proven to be rather a chic fashion segue as the years have gone by.

Hats are poetic, romantic; they provide generous amounts of theatrics for an old drama queen like myself.

They're also handy to keep about in case things get desperate.

Did you know they make great coin collectors for busking?

My channelling of the Mad Hatter began as a "spark" from seeing my father getting ready for work, donning his Air Force peaked hats and berets.

I have memories of playing dress up in them.

I still have them but, after some 30 years in showbusiness, sad to say my head is somewhat larger than it once was, so my father's hats no longer fit.

I am a collector of hats.

Recently I went to the Westbrook Maker Hat Company in Venice, California, a fine place where all the felt hats are made the oldfashioned way, by hand.

After a lengthy fitting, I ordered several hats that I am excited to be wearing on our upcoming tour.

Hats have always been a big part of my showmanship.

Traditionally, after the encore, I walk on-stage to say my goodnights wearing a red, collapsible top hat, reminiscent of a mad ringmaster under the big top.

Even Stevie will don her top hat at some point during our show.

There are plenty of good hat wearers today but the guy I love the most at the moment is Pharrell Williams and his awesome hats.

I love even more the message of Happy.

That video going viral is a great example of the power of the internet to connect people world-over through music in a way that is both subversive and sublime.

Gotta love those "feelgood" songs!

Many years ago when I was short of a few bob and not "feeling so good" I was persuaded to visit a fortune teller.

Being a die-hard romantic and a believer in fairy tales, I was an easy mark.

Desperation makes us do strange things.

The dubious palm reader asked me what it was in life I needed.

"Well," I said. "I've run out of money!" She told me to bring her $10,000.

Then she instructed me to "donate" (we use this word loosely here) half of it to her "charity" (another loose translation) and the remaining $5,000 (all the money I had to my name) I was ordered to put inside my shoes and into the lining of my beloved hat.

Apparently I was to be rewarded a bounty worth one hundredfold of the investments I had just made.

I can say that it did feel different, walking around packed, head and foot, with the last bit of cash I had.

Dr Jenny Boyd, 60s model and ex-wife of drummer Mick Fleetwood coming to Whitstable Literary Festival

Dr. Jenny Boyd at Whitstable Literary Festival
Sunday, 11 May (5:30pm - 6:30pm)
Horsebridge Centre, 11 Horsebridge Road,
Whitstable, Kent CT5 1AF

In her first festival appearance, Jenny will be talking about her book 'It's Not Only Rock n Roll'

Published by John Blake Publishing Ltd.
How do the world’s most popular musicians create hit songs; is it natural talent, or do external influences affect their writing process? Dr Jenny Boyd, 60s model and ex-wife of drummer Mick Fleetwood, spent four years interviewing 75 world famous musicians and has now published her findings in a fascinating book, It’s Not Only Rock ‘n’ Roll. She talks to music expert Andy Miller about this original and inspiring collection, where iconic musicians reveal – many for the first time – their thoughts on creating music. Psychologist Jenny has probed the minds and souls of these artists and has delved into the drive to create, the importance of nurturing creativity, the role of unconscious influences and the effects of chemicals and drugs on the creative process. Music legends who contributed exclusive interviews include Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Julian Lennon, Don Henley, Hank Marvin, Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, Steve Winwood, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell.

Jenny Boyd has many personal ties to the music world as former wife of Mick Fleetwood and the inspiration behind folk-rock singer Donovan’s 60’s hit Jennifer Juniper.  She was in Rishikesh, India in 1968 with The Beatles and her sister Pattie, (former wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton). Jenny is the founder and director of Spring Workshops, organising psychotherapeutic groups for people in need of personal development.

Here's your chance to ask Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie a question. Deadline 4/25

Photo Mark Allan
If you could ask Christine McVie just one question about her songwriting career, what would it be?

Darren Haynes, Editor of "The Works" magazine published by The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), has secured an interview with Christine McVie to be published in the magazine this June.  He's offering Fleetwood Mac fans, in particular, Christine McVie fans, the opportunity to ask Christine a question.

With such a lengthy career crafting some of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits, and a few solo hits of her own, I'm sure you've often wondered what certain songs she's written are really all about. Maybe your question is about some of the more obscure tracks on albums that weren't necessarily hit singles? What situation or person inspired her at the time she wrote a certain track, or maybe you are curious about her songwriting process. Does the music come first, or the lyrics? Does she keep a journal? After being away from the spotlight for a number of years, and with new music written, maybe you would like to know what the new songs are about and how she found writing again after so many years away from it. Wow... There are so many possible questions to ask... So much to learn.

So take a minute, think about it and submit your question.

Remember, your question should focus on Christine's songwriting skills or the meaning behind certain songs/lyrics.

The deadline for submissions is this Friday, April 25, 2014, so you only have a couple of days.

All questions should be submitted by email to Darren Haynes.

Your subject line should read "Christine McVie Question".

Good luck... and ask away!

[Update: Saturday, April 26th:]

Thanks everyone who took the time to send in questions... Had a massive response!

Christine McVie spotted on flight to Nashville

According to sunshine_dusted (Brittany) on instagram, Christine was on the same flight to Nashville as her father yesterday where he met and got an autograph from her for his daughter.

"my dad was flying back from Oklahoma with a stop In Dallas to come home to Nashville and she was on the Nashville flight"

Also... This could be related... Dave Stewart and Waddy Wachtel are on their way to Nashville.  Dave posted on Facebook yesterday that he and Waddy were headed there Saturday.  Hmmm... Wonder if there is a connection.

Update:

"On way to Nashville, Tennessee this morning with Stevie Nicks and Waddy Wachtel" - Dave Stewart (his post has since been deleted from his Facebook page).

Rumours Era Photos Taken in New York City

The story that goes along with these photos from the man that took them jps721
"This group of Fleetwood Mac shots aren't my last concert shots, but they were easily my best ones. It wasn't long after this that cameras became restricted. These were taken in Madison Square Garden on June 30th 1977...right at a huge peak for these guys on their Rumors Tour. I had seen the concert advertised in the NY Times and placed a mail order for a ticket. Timing IS everything...my order arrived just when it had been decided to play a second show the night after. Timing got me a front row seat...I was blown away. So I arrive and get to my seat and realize that I'll be sitting about 20 feet from where Stevie Nicks will be standing...OMG, this is gonna be good. And then I notice out of the corner of my eye that there were two very official looking guys standing in a nearby aisle, checking me out. Of course, I wasn't too conspicuous with 2 cameras...one bearing the 200mm tele and motor drive. They talked for a minute and looked at me, but no one came over and told me to leave or surrender the gear...but I was waiting. Finally the show started and I felt OK then. So these are the creme de la creme for me."

Chart Updates: Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks...Crystal Visions Makes Surprise Appearance

Haven't had a proper update on charts around the world for a number of weeks... Here's the U.S. for both April 12th and April 19th with the most recent countries showing chart action at the bottom.

U.S.A. - Chart Date: April 12, 2014
Fleetwood Mac's 1988 Greatest Hits collection re-entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart with sales for the week of 2,335 up from 1,152 the previous week or a 103% increase.  The sales bump followed the news that Fleetwood Mac would tour in 2014 with a reunited Christine McVie.  Total US sales since November, 1991 = 4,740,163.

BILLBOARD TOP 200 ALBUMS CHART
# 200 (R/E) Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits

During the same sales period, Fleetwood Mac had 4 albums on the Top 200 Catalogue Albums Chart all experiencing a bump up the chart with "Greatest Hits" leading the pack at No.33.

"The Very Best Of" came in at No.34 with sales for the week of 2,328 up 33% from the previous weeks sales of 1,751. Total US sales since it's release in 2002 = 1,649,716.

"Rumours" drops two places on the chart to No.43 but increases in sales vs the week prior by 2%. Album sales for Rumours for the week were 2,209 vs 1,639 the previous week. Total US sales for Rumours since November, 1991 = 3,295,004.

"Fleetwood Mac", the 1975 self titled album moves up to No.47 from No.89 the previous week selling 2,076 units vs 1,639 the previous week, an increase of 27%. Total US sales since November, 1991 = 1,001,023.  This puts the album at over 1 million units sold in the US since Soundscan began tracking sales in November, 1991.

"Crystal Visions... The Very Best Of Stevie Nicks" makes an appearance this week on the Catalogue chart, which doesn't happen that often. For chart date April 12, 2014 the album re-entered at No.200 on sales for the week of 1,160 units up 29% over the week prior of 897 units. Based on sales, the album has officially reached GOLD certification in the U.S., but likely surpassed that in albums shipped a while ago.  Total U.S. sales to date since it's release in 2007 = 505,512.

Mick Fleetwood Goes His Own Way: Running away

From the Sunday Express (UK)
April 13, 2014
I WAS a three-time runaway as a kid from an English country boarding school. Early on, I decided to follow my dreams and made many, futile attempts to get the hell out.

By: Mick Fleetwood
Sunday Express, April 13, 2014

I was 11 when I made my first escape. I had drawn a picture of what I thought a naked lady looked like and had determined the only way I could see one in the flesh was to become a doctor. Now a normal child would have waited, studied and gone through the necessary channels but, dreamer that I was, I resolved to find my way to London that instant to study medicine!

Each time I ran away, the goal was to get to London. The city held a mythic attraction; I'd stop there for a night or two as I went back and forth to boarding school.

I stayed with my art student sister and her boyfriend. They took me to Cafe des Artistes, where I had my first sip of champagne, contributing enormously to my fantasy world. I was obsessed by that place, with its brooding beatnik types listening to jazz and smoking cigarettes. It was dark, cool, the place to be and I was hooked. Above all, I wanted to re-create this place.

Since my nomadic inclinations showed no signs of slowing, my parents, in their infinite wisdom, finally got the hint and signed me up for a day school nearby. Once at home, I set about cleaning out the old stables at our house and Club Keller was born, my first stab at re-creating my adored Cafe des Artistes. We served cola and sandwiches. I had a radio and entertained local friends with music and by playing drums.

At 15 I knew I wanted be a drummer and, with my father's blessing, I flew the nest.

My first job was playing with my band, The Cheynes, at London's Mandrake Club, which in its heyday used to host the likes of Liz Taylor and Eddie Fisher. But when I had my nightly residency there, the only remains of that once-thriving scene were the yellowed, celebrity-signed portraits which adorned the walls. Still, it was a club, in a basement, thick with intrigue and underground seediness.

Today I own Fleetwood's, my lifelong dream realised as a combination restaurant/club in Lahaina, Maui (where I live when I am not touring). We have fabulous, rooftop dining and a stage. People come to enjoy great food and music. I play there often with my friends and part-time residents of the island, Steven Tyler and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and Willie K, a local talent.

I love it when people have a good time and enjoy themselves; it reminds me of those long ago days at Club Keller.

By the way, although I never stopped following my boyhood dreams, I let the "doctor" thing go. I soon learned that there are plenty of other ways to get to see naked women!

Stevie Nicks on Kiss: 'They Should Have Played, the Kiss Army is out there screaming for them" via @rollingstone

"It's their loss they didn't play, because the Kiss Army is out there screaming for them," says Fleetwood Mac singer

Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks paid tribute to Linda Ronstadt at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony Thursday night, along with an all-star lineup of women Ronstadt influenced, as Ronstadt was unable to make an appearance herself. Following performances by Carrie Underwood, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow, Nicks sang Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy," which Ronstadt released as her own single on the 1977 album Simple Dreams, and the Everly Brothers' "When Will I Be Loved,"  a 1975 single for Ronstadt off her Heart Like a Wheel LP. Following her performance, she told Rolling Stone how Ronstadt left an indelible impression on her at an early age.

Why did you want to pay tribute to Linda Ronstadt?
Because Linda was one of the first artists that really caught my eye when I was in high school. And I really could sing just like her. I'm sure a lot of people could. Because if you study her, you can get her vibe. So I could sing "Different Drum." I couldn't sing it as good as Carrie Underwood just sang it, I have to say, God bless her. But I got it pretty good, and I could also play it on my guitar – and I'm not the best guitar player. But I learned it and I could sing it.

Linda was really a rock star, but she was tinged with the country thing. And so she figured out a way to blend those things. So she was rockin', and she hung out with the rockers, the rock bands. But she still had that little bit of country that went along with her. And, her voice was so spectacular that all the men surrounding her – Don Henley and Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne – that whole bunch of guys that was so fantastic. So she was like myself.

How else did you relate to her?
She was never gonna do a song she didn't love. Because I've gotten in terrible arguments with producers about a song that they'll give me, and they'll go, "This could be your next hit single." And I'm like, "I don't care because I hate it, and I'm not doing it." And huge arguments over that. And I'm sure Linda Ronstadt was the same way, where she'd say, "No, I'm not doing that song. I don't like it." So she was just strong.

And I think that when she was 15, 16, 17, she was probably just like me. She was marching through the halls of her high school going, 'Everybody should be moving aside right now, because, "Don't you know who I am? I'm Linda Ronstadt, future huge rock star." It's just in her. I watched her and I listened to her. And I loved all her songs and I got told great stories about her from all the amazing people that did know her. And I don't really know how she slipped through the cracks, and I never really got to meet her. I should've gotten to meet her. Anyway, she was just like the perfect storm of everything meeting at the same time in perfection when she hit the radio.

Did you speak with her before tonight? How did you come to sing in the tribute?
We were just asked. I think that me, Carrie, Sheryl, Emmylou, Bonnie – I think the five of us certainly had no idea that we'd be chosen to do this. But it was so great because I really think we were the perfect five to do it, and I think that Glenn Frey was the perfect person to induct her because they really were good friends. So he knew her really well.

What has the backstage scene been like for you?
Well, I couldn't even watch Cat Stevens because it was right before us. And I started crying. I met him last night at Jimmy Fallon, and I got a moment to tell him how inspirational he had been to Lindsey Buckingham and to myself. For Buckingham-Nicks, Cat Stevens was one of the people that we listened to daily and sang along to those songs and played those songs and harmonized to those songs. And they meant so much to us. I mean in so many ways, they meant so much to us, not just because they were good songs; to me, it was Cat Stevens, and that was huge for us. I told him that last night.

How did he reply?
He said, "You know, I'm so glad you told me that. Because how would I know? How would I know?" And he goes, "I'm thrilled that I influenced the two people in Fleetwood Mac. I'm thrilled to know that." And he was so sweet and gentle and loving and nice.

So tonight, when he started singing, I was gonna go out there and stand on the side of the stage and watch. I started crying. I couldn't do it because if you start to cry, you can't sing. So I had to walk away. I thought, "I'll watch it on HBO, because if I go out there, I will get hysterical." He's amazing.

I think that he should come back, because I think that somebody like Cat Stevens or Yusuf – whichever name he chooses to go by – I think his message of peace and love is great. And I think that it showed very much in that huge audience tonight that his music can promote peace and love, and he should do it because he can. And he can break hearts and he can make people listen to him. And that is magical. And he should do it. And I told him that.

Who else are you excited to see tonight?
I cannot miss Hall & Oates, because Hall & Oates are huge, huge, huge for me. I really just wanted to be an R&B singer, let's face it.

What were your thoughts on the Kiss situation? Did you talk to them at all about performing?
I did not. I just gave them kisses. No, my opinion was that they should have played. When we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Lindsey's a little bit like, "OK, whatever." But let me tell you, when we walked up there and we were inducted, we stood up there and it is a moment like no other. Then you get to go and strum on your guitar and get your microphone and sing two or three songs to that audience on your day.

It is their loss that they didn't play, because the Kiss Army is out there, right now screaming for them. And they should have played for them, no matter how they felt about it. You know, Fleetwood Mac had about 500 people in it, too. They weren't all there. All 900 guitar players didn't get inducted. They weren't there. So the thing is, you know what? It's your moment. Take it. Go out there and play. It's the most important part. I like Kiss very much, and I think that they have done amazing. They're an amazing band.
