Fleetwood's Daughter is Discharged

Mick Fleetwood's Daughter is Discharged
from Los Angeles Hospital

LOS ANGELES, Jul 31, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood's six-year-old daughter Ruby has been discharged from the pediatric unit of Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center today after being admitted in critical condition following a pool accident on July 18th.

"The doctors at Cedars are stunned by our little fighter," says Fleetwood's wife Lynn. "Based on the condition Ruby was in when she arrived at the hospital 12 days ago, none of them expected her to have come this far in such a short time. She has blown them away with her strength and her will to survive."

Lynn Fleetwood reports that Ruby is now walking on her own, drawing, kicking a ball, and recognizing more of her everyday words and objects. "Her smile is bright, her eyes sparkle and her sense of humor is funnier than ever before."

On July 18th, Ruby and her twin sister Tessa were on a playdate with close friends of the family at a pool in the Hidden Hills area of Los Angeles. The Fleetwood family says that Ruby was doing somersaults in the pool, became disoriented, and swallowed a high quantity of water. She became unconscious in the pool, was revived by CPR, and was rushed by ambulance to West Hills Hospital where she was stabilized. Several hours later, she was transferred to Cedars Sinai Pediatric ICU.

"We would like to thank everyone at Cedars-Sinai for their excellent care," says Mick Fleetwood. "Their wonderful bedside manner was second to none and helped us tremendously throughout this entire ordeal. We want to thank them for everything from the bottom of our hearts."

Ruby will be treated as an outpatient at UCLA Medical Center. The Fleetwoods wish to thank the media for all its well wishes and ask that everyone continue to respect their privacy while they tend to their children and their family.

Sheryl Crow is putting the "Rumours" to rest

Crow: Not working with Fleetwood Mac anytime soon
By JOHN GEROME
The Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Sheryl Crow is putting the "Rumours" to rest: She's not making a record with or joining Fleetwood Mac — not anytime soon at least.

"No, that was those 'Rumours' — to quote the album," she joked Wednesday, referring to the group's 1977 hit album.

"I'm a huge fan and have a great relationship with Stevie (Nicks), and actually with all of them. I just absolutely adore them," Crow said during a question-and-answer session with college students in Nashville as part of a Grammy Foundation event.

"I think their next album may be while I'm on the road. Hopefully in the future we'll have some kind of collaboration, but not at this time," she said.

Crow, 46, reportedly told the AOL music Web site Spinner.com last spring that she and the band "definitely have plans for collaborating in the future, and we'll see what happens."

Afterward, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham told Billboard.com, "I think we were all surprised (Crow) was announcing to the world with such certainty. We have talked about bringing another woman into the scene to kind of give Stevie a sort of foil and shake it up a little bit. (Crow) was certainly a name that has come up. We'll have to see."

Nicks has been Fleetwood Mac's sole female member since Christine McVie left in the late '90s.

Buckingham has said the band plans to go on tour in early 2009 and follow it with an album, their first since 2003's "Say You Will."

Crow, who has recorded and performed with Nicks, is on tour supporting her recent album, "Detours."

Fleetwood Mac Likely To Follow '09 Tour with New Album

Sans Crow, Fleetwood Mac To Tour In 2009
Billboard
July 23, 2008 , 3:45 PM ET

Gary Graff, Detroit
In the wake of Lindsey Buckingham's latest solo project, Fleetwood Mac is gearing up for a tour in early 2009 that will likely be followed by a new band album.

Buckingham -- who releases "Gift of Screws" on Sept. 16 via Warner Bros. and begins a solo tour Sept. 7 in Saratoga, Calif. -- tells Billboard.com that Fleetwood Mac will convene in January to begin rehearsing for the tour, whose itinerary is currently being assembled. It will be the group's first outing since promoting the "Say You Will" album in 2003 and 2004.

"There was no sense we had to jump right in the studio," Buckingham reports. "I think maybe there was even a sense that we would make a better album if we went out and hung out together first on the road ... maybe even sowing some seeds musically that would get us more prepared to go in the studio rather than just going in cold. It takes the pressure (off) from having to go in and make something cold."

Contrary to previous reports, however, the Fleetwood Mac tour will not include Sheryl Crow, who spoke of the possibility of being part of the group while promoting her most recent album, "Detours." Buckingham says the matter "kinda got out of hand," though there were discussions between the Fleetwood Mac members and Crow. Ultimately, he says, the prospect "just kind of lost its momentum."

"I think with Stevie (Nicks) ... maybe to some degree there was a little too much testosterone on stage when we went out in 2003," Buckingham notes, "and I think the band was looking to kind of balance that out a little bit.

"I think the good side has been, for Stevie, she came to a point of clarity where she realized the most appropriate thing we could do as a band was to create what needs to be created in the context of the four of us. That's been a real positive, and it's been a real rallying point for all of us, too."

The Fleetwood Mac rhythm section of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie appears on three songs on "Gift of Screws," which was the title of a solo album Buckingham was working on before Fleetwood Mac decided to record "Say You Will."

Throughout the evening, Stevie elegantly showcases her vocal abilities on "Fall From Grace," and follows a stunning performance of "How Still My Love" with a cover of Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" interpreted through the eyes of a woman. Stevie also beautifully performs "Sara," a song rarely performed without Fleetwood Mac, before finishing up the hour with an amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."

Stevie Nicks knows how to put on a show. Part Two of this theatrical evening continues with a perfect mix of favorites like "Landslide" and "Gold Dust Woman" that will leave you yearning for more. 10 Shows... 3 Million Bucks Gross!

Updated numbers for Stevie Nicks' short 2008 Spring/Summer Tour....

Only 10 shows out of the 17 shows she performed from April 18th to June 29th have been reported so far. The average attendance this year at 64% is down 1% compared to last years reported numbers... and the average attendance last year of 6,545 per show is above what her numbers are showing this year of 5,864. The average ticket price last year based on 24 reported shows was $59.35. This year the average ticket price based on these 10 shows increases to $68.57. All in all, it looks pretty consistent in terms of audience size compared to 2007. And for a performer that hasn't released any new material since 2001 and only 2 solo albums of all new material since 1994, not to mention it's her second summer of promoting a Greatest Hits collection released in March, 2007 - it's not so bad.

Stevie Nicks, Matchbox 20 up next on WTTW11's Soundstage

By Jennifer Thomas on July 16, 2008 12:47 PM

So you're channel surfing, and all of the sudden you realize you're watching an hour's worth of Stevie Nicks singing favorites like "Landslide" and throwing in covers like a brilliant version of Dave Matthews' "Crash."

That's coming up at 9 p.m. CST July 17 as PBS station WTTW11 continues its Soundstage series, taped concerts by big-name acts, most filmed on the station's intimate concert stage in Chicago.

The series runs on Thursday nights and has already featured Josh Groban, REO Speedwagon and Bon Jovi. Part II of the Steve Nicks concert is July 24. Matchbox 20 airs July 31 and Kenny Chesney on Aug. 7. Repeats are shown at midnight on Saturdays.

The series was resurrected in 2001 and has featured a mixture of acts including Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Trisha Yearwood, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Alanis Morissette, Joan Baez, Michael McDonald, John Mayer, The Wallflowers, Heart, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Train, The All American Rejects, Dashboard Confessional, Macy Gray and Jewel.

Looking at the advance copy of the Stevie Nicks show, she sounds fantastic in her first taped solo concert since 1987. The concert offers some unique material including Nicks performing "Sara," a song she doesn't usually do solo since she considers it "a signature Fleetwood Mac song" and her calling "Fall From Grace" the meanest song she's ever written.

Nicks also performs fan favorites like "Rhiannon" along with a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll." The crowd wasn't especially energetic, but that also means they're not interfering.

The Matchbox 20 show includes selections from the band's new album, "Exile on Mainstream." Rob Thomas and crew also throw in hits "3 AM," "Unwell" and "How Far We've Come." The musicality and vocals are strong, and there's a short, off-stage interview with the band.

Watching a concert on TV is no substitute for the real thing, but it has its perks, including more interaction with the performer. You get more than the "How you all doing tonight?" type of yell-outs at concerts, and instead get a little background behind the performer's work.

Stevie on Soundstage... (Part 1) July 17th

Like anyone in the know needs a reminder... But the first part of this two part show begins tomorrow! Sadly my local PBS station isn't airing the first part until July 26th... BASTARDS!

Reprise Records Press Release

Lindsey Buckingham to Release New Album -- Gift of Screws -- on Reprise Records September 16, 2008
Singer-Songwriter/Guitarist Begins U.S. Tour This Fall

BURBANK, Calif., Jul 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Warner Bros. Records will release the fifth solo album from singer, songwriter, and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, entitled Gift of Screws, on Reprise Records September 16, 2008.

Gift of Screws unites the broad appeal Buckingham showed as the main musical force behind Fleetwood Mac with the restless spirit of experimentalism he's shown on landmark Mac albums as Rumours and Tusk, and on his own visionary solo albums. It's the sum of Buckingham's labors of musical love and dedication, with all the joys and struggles that have come along the way.

"I'd say this album distills several periods of time," Buckingham says. "It has false starts to make albums, songs that go back a number of years that took a while to find a home, and brand-new songs. I wanted to bring it all together in one place. As an artist I'm still, for better or worse, clinging to my idealism and to my sense that there is still much to be said. This album is a culmination of that."

Gift of Screws is a rocking complement to Buckingham's previous album, 2006's acoustic guitar-driven Under the Skin, balancing such layered guitar-and-voice contemplations as "Time Precious Time" and "Bel Air Rain" with the seductive rush of the title song and the opener "Great Day." In some ways it's also an extension of his Fleetwood Mac legacy as Mick Fleetwood and John McVie provide the unmistakable foundation on several songs, including the embracing "Wait for You" and the gloriously mad title song. Showcased throughout are Buckingham's noted virtuosity as a guitarist, as well as his expressiveness as both a singer and writer.

Largely written and recorded both at his home studio and in solo hotel room sessions during his Under the Skin tour (an electrifying set of concerts documented on the 2008 DVD/CD package Live at the Bass Performance Hall), Gift of Screws was produced by Buckingham, with the exception of two songs -- "Wait For You" and the title track -- that were co-produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Jewel, Dave Matthews Band).

Last fall, Buckingham embarked on his first U.S. solo tour in nearly 14 years, which continued through the summer. He will tour the U.S. in support of Gift of Screws through September and October. Please visit Buckingham's website, http://www.lindseybuckingham.com/, for details.

Old Friends Lend A Hand On Buckingham Disc

July 15, 2008 , 3:25 PM ET
Billboard Magazine

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham will release his second solo album in two years on Sept. 16 via Reprise. "Gift of Screws" features Buckingham backed on several tracks by his Fleetwood Mac bandmates John McVie (bass) and Mick Fleetwood (drums).

Whereas 2006's "Under the Skin" was a mostly drum-less album featuring Buckingham's guitar and vocals, "Gift of Screws" is a more rock-driven project.

Label execs initially asked Buckingham to include some of this material on "Under the Skin," but he told Billboard at the time that he felt that album had "much more integrity by keeping it held back in the way it is. It seemed to be more truthful in terms of what the songs were saying and what I was trying to look at."

Buckingham will tour in support of "Gift of Screws" this fall. As for Fleetwood Mac, the artist told Billboard in March that the group is hoping to tour early next year, but downplayed reports that Sheryl Crow would be joining as a touring member to replace the departed Christine McVie.

"We have talked about the possibility of bringing another woman into the scene to kind of give Stevie (Nicks) a sort of foil and shake it up a little bit," he said. "(Crow) was certainly a name that has come up. We'll have to see."

Happy 65th Birthday Christine McVie!! (July 12)

Happy Birthday Christine
July 12, 2008
An English songwriter, vocalist, pianist, and synthesizer player who has worked both in bands and as a solo artist, McVie is one of the most highly regarded female musicians in the genres of pop/rock and blues/rock. She is considered a pioneer, and was one of the first female musicians to enter the British blues scene of the 1960s, as well as one of the first to release a solo album. Her soulful alto, keen melodies, sensitive lyrics, and grounding presence were a focal point for nearly 30 years in Fleetwood Mac, a blues band that became a highly successful mainstream rock act.

The Heart of the Group

Christine McVie played keyboards and sang background vocals (sometimes uncredited) on several records by Fleetwood Mac, and she even painted the cover for their album Kiln House (1970). In August of 1970 she was asked to join as a permanent member, replacing guitarist Peter Green as the band's main songwriter. The early 1970s was a difficult period for Fleetwood Mac: they lost several band members and released critically acclaimed but generally unsuccessful records. In addition, John McVie had begun to drink heavily, and his behavior strained his marriage.

In 1974 Fleetwood Mac relocated to Los Angeles. After Fleetwood heard a recording by the California duo Buckingham Nicks in a Los Angeles studio, he invited the pair---guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stephanie "Stevie" Nicks---to join his band. The quintet's first recording, Fleetwood Mac (1975), was a huge success, becoming the top-selling album produced by Warner Brothers up to that point. Three of the four songs that Christine wrote for the record---"Over My Head," "Say You Love Me," and "Warm Ways"---were hit singles, and she also began a fruitful collaboration with Buckingham with "World Turning." Writing in The Encyclopedia of Popular Music, Colin Larkin called Fleetwood Mac "a promise fulfilled. The newcomers provided easy, yet memorable compositions while the British contingent gave the group its edge and power." The rest is history... [musicianguide.com]

Monday, Jul 7, 2008

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has announced dates for a six-week fall tour of the U.S. with one Canadian stop thrown in.

The 27-city Gift of Screws Tour kicks off September 7 at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif., and wraps October 19 at Nokia Theatre Times Square in New York City.

Other stops include Moore Theatre in Seattle (September 9), Royce Hall Auditorium in Los Angeles (September 14), The Joint in Las Vegas (September 20), The Pageant in St. Louis (September 29), Murat Egyptian Room in Indianapolis (October 5), Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, N.J. (October 11), and Berklee Performance Center in Boston (October 17).

Further details, including ticket onsale dates, will be available at LindseyBuckingham.com in the coming weeks.

In March, Buckingham released Live at The Bass Performance Hall in CD and DVD formats. The disc documents a performance on the singer's 2006-2007 tour in support of his last solo project, Under The Skin.

Buckingham is reportedly working out distribution details for a new album due later this summer.

Lindsey Buckingham maps summer road trip

Lindsey Buckingham has lined up a headlining tour this fall as the Fleetwood Mac singer/guitarist continues to work out distribution details for his next solo album.

Buckingham, who mounted his first solo tour in almost 14 years last spring behind his 2006 release, "Under the Skin," will kick off the fall trek Sept. 7 in Saratoga, CA.
The 27-date outing includes a lengthy West Coast leg through much of September before heading on to the Midwest and eventually ending in the East. Details are included below.

Buckingham's most recent studio set, "Under the Skin" follows 1992's "Out of the Cradle." The singer said he was inspired to get to work on his latest solo effort after reuniting with Fleetwood Mac for 2003's "Say You Will."

The musician told Billboard.com earlier this year that he's planning another solo album for release later this summer, one that he recorded with members of his touring band along with Fleetwood Mac bandmates Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

The forthcoming album "has a little more of a rock feel to it" than "Under the Skin," Buckingham said. "It's just another group of tunes that hopefully will translate to stage, and hopefully we can get some more [solo] dates this summer." The singer has also told various interviewers in recent months that he hopes Fleetwood Mac will mount a tour behind a new studio album next year.

Earlier this year, Buckingham released "Live at the Bass Performance Hall," a live DVD documenting the musician's performance last year at the Fort Worth, TX, venue. The package is available in a bonus set that includes more than 45 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, and an accompanying audio CD with the same track listing as the DVD.
