NEW ON YOUTUBE: Christine McVie Live at The Country Club 1983

Tremendous quality video of this '83 concert...

"While McVie never toured as a solo act, she has performed a few dates to promote her solo work. In this series of clips, McVie was promoting her (at that point) upcoming 1984 self-titled album. The lovely pop-infused disc was released in January of 1984 and was a modest success. The album spawned two Top 40 Billboard hits (the #10 "Got A Hold On Me" -- also a great video -- and the #30 "Love Will Show Us How") and the LP peaked at #24 on Billboards Top 200. This concert was recorded on December 16 1983 at the Country Club in LA. Assisted by guitarist Todd Sharp, (future FM guitarist) Billy Burnett, bassist George Hawkins and drummer Steve Ferrone (all musicians who also played on her album) -- along with special guest Mick Fleetwood -- she performs a lively set of new songs and a few FM classics."

MICK SPEAKS: NO FLEETWOOD MAC TOUR IN 2011 & STEVIE NICK'S NEW ALBUM ONE OF THE BEST THINGS SHE'S EVER DONE

Make a New Year’s date with Mick Fleetwood
Mauinews
By JON WOODHOUSE For The Maui News

With 2010 rapidly coming to a close, we have two opportunities to celebrate the holidays with the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. The legendary Fleetwood Mac co-founder will perform with his band on Dec. 30 at a Maui Celebrity Series concert at Maui Theatre in Lahaina, and ring in the New Year at a special party at Mala Wailea to benefit the MACC and the Maui Food Bank.

Fronted by guitarist/singer Rick Vito, the Grammy-nominated Blues Band includes bassist Lenny Castellanos and keyboardist Mark Johnstone. They will be augmented by Island Rumours' singers Eric Gilliom and Gretchen Rhodes.

The Maui Theatre show in Lahaina also features Tom Arnold, William Shatner, Shawn Hatosy, Nermin Zajic and Brian Evans; while the Mala Wailea includes rockers Alice Cooper and Pat Simmons, plus Canadian blues musician Colin James.

"We're happy to play and are all excited," says Mick. "It's become almost traditional (to play Mala Wailea). It's the core band with Gretchen Rhodes and Eric Gilliom, so at the end of the evening we'll become partially the Island Rumours."

As to rumors that Carlos Santana might jam with them, Mick adds, "he played a couple of years ago, but we've communicated and he is not able to come."

Paying homage to the blues rock roots of Fleetwood Mac, the Maui-based band is heralded for powering through classics like "Oh Well," "Black Magic Woman," "Shake Your Money Maker" and "Rattlesnake Shake."

A review in New Zealand's The Press raved: "What made Fleetwood's Blues Band an unheralded sensation was Mac alumni Rick Vito, surely one of America's finest guitarists, whose shimmering slide guitar and bluesy vocals made the quartet's set an event in itself."

Their debut recording, "Blue Again," received a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. This marks the only time Mick has been nominated for a Grammy outside of Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood has made a number of appearances at Maui events this year including recently jamming with John Mayall and drumming with Dr. Nat at the "Get a Job" premiere at the MACC.

A couple of weeks ago, he joined the super jam band Camp Freddy (featuring members of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Velvet Revolver and The Cult) at a show in L.A., backing guitarist Johnny Lang and Areosmith's Steven Tyler pumping out "Rattlesnake Shake."

"Steven Tyler, Johnny Lang and John McVie and I are doing a track on a new tribute album for ZZ Top," Mick explains. "We all got together and we had a ball. Steven is a really good drummer. He came on and played 'Wipeout' and kicked the hell out of it."

Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks has a new album in the works, which features some tracks with the legendary drummer and a re-teaming with Lindsey Buckingham.

"I played on a chunk of it, and from all accounts I didn't get fired," he humorously notes. "From what I've heard, I believe it's in the best top two things that Stevie has done. She's singing great and she's really excited."

By the way, Fleetwood Mac will not tour next year, but they are "contemplating the beginnings of another Fleetwood Mac album."

As previously reported, Mick is finalizing plans for a new Fleetwood's restaurant on Front Street at the former Planet Hollywood site.

"It's part of my life's plan here," he reports. "We're in lawyer-and-accounting-land now. By the middle of next summer we'll have a Fleetwood's on Front Street. I think it's going to be great. It's a restaurant, but people will be fed a certain proportion of music that I'll be involved in."

Cementing his commitment to contributing to our island, Mick just joined the board of directors of the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation. The MMMCF is a private, nonprofit organization that raises funds to support Maui Memorial Hospital.

"I'm thrilled," says Mick. "I felt people didn't know about the progress and some of the programs at the hospital. I'm a cheerleader when I know things need to be said. I'm going to take it seriously and help bring awareness to plans to more serve our community."

The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with Eric Gilliom and Gretchen Rhodes headlines the Maui Celebrity Series concert at Maui Theatre in Lahaina at 8 p.m. Dec. 30. The event also includes Tom Arnold, William Shatner, Hal Sparks, Shawn Hatosy and Brian Evans. General admission tickets are $85, premium tickets are $150, and $225 for VIP. Call 856-7973 for more information.

The Mala Wailea New Year's Eve benefit party for the MACC and the Maui Food Bank will feature the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with Eric Gilliom and Gretchen Rhodes. Other special guests performing include Alice Cooper, Pat Simmons and Colin James. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $500. Call 875-9394.

Another vote of confidence if you will... for Stevie's new album

This bit of info on Stevie's new album is just one more indication of big things to come in 2011 for Ms Nicks!

[Danny Zelisko is the Chairman of Live Nation Southwest]  He took to his Facebook page last night and stated...:  "listening to the new Stevie Nicks album at brother Chris' house in PV. Easily her best ever, and it doesn't hurt that she is sitting right here..."

And a followup

"all 14 songs were wonderful, rocking, perfect and poignant, not overproduced but no detail left undone...I can't wait to hear it again and again, which wont be for awhile. I think this bodes well for 2011, where music will regain the focus over all of the business surrounding the industry. This is what i call a career masterpiece."

Changes are underway over at the official website for Lindsey Buckingham Lindseybuckingham.com. The new look to the website appears to be a complete redesign but still in the early stages of being built as nothing from the previous website has been brought forward yet,  including all the articles & discography info etc. Looks good!

Could this be the new Lindsey Buckingham font style for the new album?

THE WAITING IS THE HARDEST PART!

UPDATE ON THE STEVIE NICKS ALBUM...
It's been a long year since February, 2010 when we first caught wind that Dave Stewart was writing with, playing on and producing a new album for Stevie Nicks... But in many ways the time has flown by. Now, just as Winter begins, we all await Spring and the big day of release.

Latest Twitter post from Producer Dave Stewart:

MICK FLEETWOOD CHECKS IN AT THE ROXY, BACKS UP STEVEN TYLER

Mick Fleetwood along with Steven Tyler Dave Navarro and whole host of others at CAMP FREDDY, in LA at The Roxy last night (Dec 10, 2010). Mick played drums for Steven Tyler's version of "Rattlesnake Shake".

"CAMP FREDDY is an 'Occasional Happening', a freak of Hollywood nature. What happens when we get together and play is anyone's guess. Surprise guests, lounge singers turned heavy rock superstars, some of the world's greatest guitarists playing three chord punk tunes. I mean, who knows what will happen at the next show? It's all about the music, the motivation and, above all, the fun!! What we all got into the business for originally. We play some of the greatest rock and roll songs ever written, have a real laugh doing it, and invite other artists that we know and respect to play them with us. It's the real spirit of Rock and Roll.' --Billy Morrison, Guitarist-Camp Freddy."

SIMPLY EVA... SIMPLY "SONGBIRD"

"Simply Eva" by Eva Cassidy, due January 25 (Blix Street), is a compilation of acoustic versions of twelve songs recently unearthed from Cassidy's recording archives. Amongst the 12 tracks lay a more intimate and affecting version of the Fleetwood Mac song "Songbird" written by Christine McVie - now an Eva signature song.  Also included are "Time After Time", an extended version of the Paul Simon classic "Kathy's Song", gospel standards "People Get Ready" and "Wade In the Water", "Wayfaring Stranger", "True Colors", and "Autumn Leaves".

Here's Eva's original version of "Songbird"

How Stevie Hears Nicks

A lot of people, including singers, have problems with how they think their voice sounds. Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac is not one of those people. Listen to her take on her voice.

What Up With That...
A tribute to Hollywood.

The real Robert Deniro, Robin Williams and Lindsey Buckingham (portrayed by Bill Hader) on SNL December 4th.

In another classic version of this sketch... Lindsey's introduced as a Movie Enthusiast who agreed to appear on his birthday, with the possibility that he'll actually get to speak... But again, because of time restraints Lindsey misses out on the opportunity... In the end because they ran out of time the host Deandre Cole gives him a birthday present, a picture of the host with LB in the background.

Here's an idea of the skit... Rough recording!

FLEETWOOD MAC'S "BEHIND THE MUSIC" (REMASTERED) TONIGHT

Don't miss tonights edition of VH1 Behind The Music Remastered featuring Fleetwood Mac.  New interviews are included by most of the members of Fleetwood Mac, presumably everyone but Christine McVie... Also David Wild, Rollingstone Contributing Editor was interviewed earlier this year for the remastered version...Check it out at 9pm on VH1 Classic - check local listings.

If you are in the US you can likely watch the episode on line at the VH1 Classic website either after the first episode airs or after it's initial run which is over the course of the next 7 days.

Sadly VH1 hasn't figured out that there are tons of fans of Fleetwood Mac beyond the US border and restrict viewing on their site to only the US - so if you are outside the US, you won't be able to watch online.  But I suspect it will end up on youtube shortly after it airs.

This version of BTM will be an update to the 1997 version - which you can watch below:

GUITAR TECHNIQUES... LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM "GO YOUR OWN WAY"

Really great shot of Lyndsey Lindsey Buckingham from 1977 in the January, 2011 issue of Guitar Techniques - along with all the notes to play "Go Your Own Way"

Note to the editor of this magazine... Is it really that difficult to check for the proper spelling of the artist name you are featuring in your mag? It appears incorrectly in the article with the spelling Lyndsey, yet in the caption on the photo you get it right.
