It's proving to be a very busy year for the legendary Stevie Nicks. Not only is she about to head out on tour with a reunited Fleetwood Mac, but she's also in the midst of finishing up her own new solo album.

Tentatively titled "24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault," Nicks' forthcoming collection includes lost and stray tracks that she's written and recorded through the years, but never made it onto an album. The selections for "24 Karat Gold" were all newly recorded, and co-produced by Nicks, Dave Stewart and Waddy Wachtel.

Nicks' publicist, Liz Rosenberg, says that Nicks hopes to release the album in October on Reprise/Warner Bros. Records. She recently recorded the "24 Karat" tunes in Nashville, and will continue working on the album in Los Angeles.

This is crazy exciting!!... She's got so many great songs that have never been officially released... I'm really interested to see which ones were chosen.  Obviously, 24 Karat Gold is one of them. She apparently recorded 17-18 tracks in Nashville. We have a lot to look forward too... and a lot of great stories I'm sure will be revealed as to what inspired the song.

Fitting title too... Stevie's been wearing a lot of 24 Karat Gold the last couple of years!

I hope "Julia" is one of the songs to appear on the album. "If You Were My Love" would be amazing as well!

If the CD doesn't include Forest of the Black Roses and/or 3 Birds of Rhiannon, I will be horribly disappointed. Here's to hoping...

Great news.
Although I HATE the title of the album. I hope she changes it to something else.

Blue Water is my fave...

This is going to be pretty cool. It'll be interesting to see how she recorded 24 karat gold, much like Ceceila, I've never considered it an album track, bet demo gold. What is the likelihood of a piano version of Forest of the Black Roses? Not likely I presume. Also interesting that they trolled youtube for old songs. I'm assuming none of the tracks will match the amazing demo versions, but it will be cool to see her vision of a produced, polished version of those songs.

All the king's horses, The Dealer, All the beautiful worlds, Space Needle... Sounds great, but, no new songs? Is she keeping them for the Mac? And what about Dave Grohl instead of Dave "i'm-the-coolest-guy-on-earth" Stewart as the producer? And what about the uptempo and rocking "I live for the things", like the old demo, with Roy Bittan playing great piano? And I would be the happiest-guy-on-earth with the angry version of Smile at you... But I'm afraid of more "cheaper-than-free" production on songs like If you were my love or Are you mine... I hope to be all wrong

This is such wonderful news, I'm thrilled with this prospect of these Unreleased Songs being properly Studio Recorded.

I really hope that GOLD AND BRAID will be one of them too, I love that song.

Roll on October!

I also hate the title. Make it shorter and more mystical Stevie!!!

Gold and Braid would be awesome!!!!!

There was certainly a point in time, oh, 20 years ago, when we all sat around listening to Stevie's old demos and thinking "she should record this, she should record that," etc. Sure enough, one by one, she started recording them- "Nomad," "Lady from the Mountain," "Smile at You," "If You Ever Did Believe," etc. All of the really good ones! Out of the 60 - 65 or so remaining "vault songs" that have been in circulation, I honestly cannot find more than a handful that are good enough or deserving of an upgrade to being recorded properly for an album. The "Rhiannon" songs, absolutely: "Forest of the Black Roses," "Blue Water," "Three Birds," "Forsaken Love." And then I would throw in "The Dealer," "Sanctuary," "Julia," "If You Were my Love," "She Loves Him Still" and perhaps "My Love is Never Lost." Ten solid songs. Unfortunately, the quality drops off a cliff beyond that. "24K Gold?" Perhaps among the worst demos ever- tuneless, lifeless, meandering. And what of the middling to horrific demos from the "Mirror Mirror" project and the Kenny G-era crapola? A 10- or 11-track album? Absolutely. I'm just fearful of those other 6 to 7 tracks recorded to bring the total to 17 tracks.

This project makes me a little bit sad. It does seem like a full circle moment, as if Stevie is saying that she needs to tie up all of the loose ends and finally record the songs that her fans have been clamoring to hear for decades. One final gift for the hardcore fans. It's as if she saw that the sands of time are running down and she needs to get this accomplished before the inevitable.

"The sands of time running out?" Dramatic much? Give me a break!

Most of Stevie's career has been based on melodrama, so "the sands of time" comment seemed rather appropriate to me. I also agree with the 24K Gold remark. I just tried listening to the YouTube demo posted above and I had to stop it 30 seconds into the song. As excited as I am to see which songs Stevie recorded for the new project, it is a little sad that she doesn't have a collection of new material she's excited to share with the world. Part of what made many of the demos so special these past several decades, is the fact that we weren't supposed to be hearing them in their stripped down version in the first place. Many of us would probably agree that the simplicity and honesty of the demos are much for valuable and preferred to studio recorded versions.

So I'm keeping an open mind with the new release, but I'm also not giving up hope that In Your Dreams will not go down as Stevie's last collection of new solo material.

@greg ... why do you think Stevie doesn't have any new material? She could have a dozen or so new demos lined up and ready to give to Fleetwood Mac. We don't know, but Stevie knows this collection of demos is something diehard fans have wanted for about twenty years. Also, from a logistics standpoint, it may be a way for her to honor a contractual commitment for her solo career without taking away any of the necessary time she's going to be putting into Fleetwood Mac ... after all, a tour, an album, and likely another tour ... she's likely looking at two years of commitment to Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac is her band, though. She was always saying solo career is just so she can put out her overflow songs, it's not her primary band or career. I don't really understand why people are saying that "she HAS to give to Fleetwood Mac" 2 years now that she cannot have for herself? Is it such a hardship for her to "give" those years to Fleetwood Mac?

I would like to see "Julia", "Sanctuary" and "24 Karat Gold". For those who didn't care for the 24 Karat Gold demo...wait and see. Stevie will polish it to perfection, I'm sure. Remember how "Lady from the Mountain" morphed into the awesome "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)"?

Stevie was never happy that her work got loose in demo form. She said those were stolen from her home. Well, now this is probably her way of getting them back and making them into what she wanted them to be in the first place. Now that we've heard the demos, which again I don't think she was happy about, she has mellowed about it probably and has decided that the stolen demos were a lemon that life gave her so she is going to make LEMONAID! And probably some more cash too!
