Exclusive Clip #5: In Your Dreams Stevie Nicks Documentary Sneak Peek! "Poetry"

A year in the life of legendary Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks is captured in the documentary film ‘In Your Dreams,’ which will debut in American theaters on April 2. But you can get an early look at the film in this exclusive preview from Ultimate Classic Rock.

This exclusive clip provides a fascinating glimpse into the early stages of creating the songs for the album, which began with Stewart poring through Nicks’ poetry to find lyrics that would lend themselves to musical adaptation.

Stevie Nicks Discusses "In Your Dreams" w/ Billboard "It's a magical little film," + Exclusive Clip #4

"It's a magical little film," Nicks tells Billboard about the making of her 2011 solo album.

Gary Graff
Billboard Magazine
March 29, 2013

Stevie Nicks says that making her latest solo album, 2011's "In Your Dreams," was "the best year of my life." And she's even happier to have it chronicled on film.

Directed by David A. Stewart, the former Eurythmics member who co-produced and co-wrote the album, the "In Your Dreams" documentary will be shown for one night only on April 2 in North American theaters; locations and ticket information can be found at www.inyourdreamsmovie.com. This follows showings at several film festivals during 2011 and 2012, most recently at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, where Nicks also performed with Dave Grohl's Sound City Players.

"It's a magical little film," Nicks tells Billboard. "It really allows you to sit right there with us through the entire year of the making of 'In Your Dreams,' and it's funny. It's really funny. It's really compassionate and it's at my house for a whole year. Dave's team during 2011 took it down from a whole year to three hours and myself, my assistant and Dave's editor took it down from there to an hour and 40 (minutes). It shows how hard it was to make (the album) and also how much fun it was and how magical it was. I hope that when people see it they really want to hear the record, even if they didn't know I had a record out." "In Your Dreams" debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in May of 2011 and has sold 188,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

IN YOUR DREAMS COMING TO VOD (Video on Demand) and Digital Download - Late Spring

Virgil Films has acquired U.S. VOD and digital download rights to the Stevie Nicks documentary “In Your Dreams” for a release on these platforms in the late spring.

The film, centered on the Fleetwood Mac singer’s making of the 2011 album of the same name, was screened at South by Southwest earlier this month. Nicks co-directed and co-produced with Dave Stewart.

The movie will premiere Sunday at the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles. It has a one-day theatrical release on April 2 in more than 75 cities via Abramorama.

The VOD deal was negotiated by Joe Amodei of Virgil Films and John Beug and Scott Pascucci of SN Productions.

Variety
What are Stevie Nicks' earliest music memories? The legendary Grammy winner and Fleetwood Mac songstress taps into her roots and songwriting inspiration in her intimate new documentary In Your Dreams.
"My one music memory that I actually have was when my parents moved from Phoenix to Los Angeles when I was about three; my dad bought a bar and my mom cooked for it," Stevie tells Dave Stewart, whom she collaborated with on her new album. "My granddad and I would sit and he would put me up on the table and he'd sing and I would kind of tap dance, even though I didn't really know I was tap dancing, and I would kind of sing."

Featuring many great candid moments and as treasure trove of photos from Stevie's youth, In Your Dreams chronicles the musical journey in making the critically acclaimed album In Your Dreams with the former Eurythmics star, which Stevie called "the greatest year of my life" and a joyful experience like "the day the circus came to town." The normally semi-reclusive Stevie allowed cameras inside her magical old mansion high atop the hills of L.A. for the doc with a wild cast of musicians and friends, including Mick Fleetwood and Reese Witherspoon.

You can see In Your Dreams for one night only in theaters -- April 2 -- and Stevie is also embarking on a new tour, click here for details.

In Your Dreams Movie Sneak Peak with Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks Remakes 'Secret Love'
Exclusive Video From 'In Your Dreams' Documentary

It's easy to forget that even the most legendary musicians grapple with self-doubt. Stevie Nicks reminds us of that in a new documentary, "In Your Dreams," which chronicles the making of her album of the same name.

In the exclusive clip below, Nicks discusses the recording of "Secret Love," a song she wrote for Fleetwood Mac's Rumours but never properly recorded for over 30 years. Oddly enough, a demo from those sessions found its way to YouTube, leaving Nicks with some mixed emotions.

"I said, 'I don't know how to feel about that," because I would have been happier if nobody ever heard 'Secret Love,' so I'm trying to look at it from the other way and go 'Well, everybody that's had it for 30 years is really happy that it's going to actually come out as a real song.'"

In the video, you can hear the original version and then watch as Nicks records the track with producer Dave Stewart, who also directed the documentary. For more information on "In Your Dreams," visit the film's official website. The documentary will screen around the U.S. for one night only on April 2, while Fleetwood Mac kicks off a world tour on April 4.

Let's All Go See That Stevie Nicks Documentary Next Week
Blackbookmag.com

In 2011, Stevie Nicks released In Your Dreams, her first solo album in a decade and three since her iconic Bella Donna. Dave Stewart, he of Eurythmics, produced. Some critics called it her best solo album; reviews were generally mixed but mostly favorable. But the most important thing is that it was Stevie Nicks, writing new music, and writing collaboratively for the first time. Before she'd worked with Stewart, she'd always written her songs solo. The shift in creative process and creation of Nicks' most recent record are the subjects of a documentary that Nicks and Stewart also co-directed, also titled In Your Dreams.

The film, in addition to getting an intimate look at these two very talented people and their creative process, also features "rare never before seen personal scrapbook stills from Nicks’ childhood and family life, and a wealth of candid backstage and performance shots taken over the last 35 years." So, if you love Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac enough to where this would be a draw (and of course you do), here's a movie for you!

Anyway, said documentary got a lot of buzz at the Toronto International Film Festival and SxSW, and now it is coming to theatres next week! April 2nd in most U.S. cities to be exact. Who wants to go see it? You? Let's go. It'll be great.

26 Years Ago Today: March 28th Fleetwood Mac's "BIG LOVE" debuted on Billboards Hot 100 Singles Chart

"Big Love", the first single to be released from Fleetwood Mac's "Tango In The Night" debuted at #52 on Billboards Top 100 singles Chart on this day in 1987.  The song spent a total of 16 weeks in the top 100 in the U.S. peaking at # 5 on May 30, 1987.  It reached #9 in the UK.

The song took on a new life in 1997 where it was first performed live with Fleetwood Mac, becoming a solo piece showing off Lindsey's incredible guitar ability and has remained that way in future shows.

REVIEW: In Your Dreams: Stevie Nicks

New Stevie Nicks Film "In Your Dreams" is Only for the Superfans
BitchMagazine
by Kerensa Cadenas

I love Stevie Nicks. Who doesn't?  However, I came upon her music only within the last couple years—I'm by no means a Stevie expert. So I was excited to see In Your Dreams, the new film Nicks and collaborator Dave Stewart directed, at SXSW this month; the screening was a chance to learn more about Stevie from herself and an opportunity to wear a Stevie-approved ensemble (long flowing skirt obviously).

While I enjoyed In Your Dreams, it is very much a documentary for the Stevie die-hards. Fans who have been enrolled in the school of Stevie for years will enjoy the film that documents the collaboration between Nicks and Stewart (a former member of the Eurhythmics) on their album of the same name. Shot "somewhere in Southern California," Nicks, Stewart and their collaborators hole up in a gorgeous mansion to work on the album. There are very brief mentions to Nicks' childhood and time in Fleetwood Mac, that's not the focus here.

While the film centers on the making of this new album, the formatting of the film feels like a distraction. The documentary is set up like the film version of reading liner notes. Nicks and Stewart go through the album song by song discussing inspirations, then cut to recording of said songs, which at times can be a rather jarring transition. It feels similar to Beyoncé's recent documentary (which she also directed) in that it's a very purposefully controlled portrait, one that seemingly gives the audience insight into Nicks' life but doesn't at all.

However, one thing that can't be contained or controlled is the sheer awesomeness of Stevie Nicks.

Nicks calls the shots throughout the film, saying very early on, "I don't like to be told what to do." The audience sees Nicks take control of much of action while recording the album with Stewart. In one of the more humorous and loveable moments, Nicks explains her love for Twilight—she immediately connected with the romance between Bella and Edward. The song "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" was inspired by New Moon. Somehow, Nicks' fangirling about the series is completely charming.

Even though Nicks was smack dab in the middle of second wave feminism, the subject doesn't really come up in the documentary. However, in the post-film Q&A at SXSW, Nicks discussed the choices that she had to make as a woman to do what she wanted to do, "I decided not to get married or have kids so I could follow music. I didn't want to be tied down." She also spoke about having to work multiple jobs (cleaning, waitressing) so she could continue to be devoted to music. Later in the day, Nicks spoke specifically for the music portion of the festival and that's when feminism explicitly came up. Nicks talked about how feminism has impacted rock and roll but also society as a whole, how she sees women's rights falling apart and how it's pissing her off.

"We fought very hard for feminism, for women's rights. What I'm seeing today is a very opposite thing. I don't know why, but I see women being put back in their place. And I hate it. We're losing all we worked so hard for, and it really bums me out."

While Nicks' documentary doesn't work well for the less devoted fans, it's still a fascinating portrait of an endlessly inspirational woman who cares deeply about women's rights within the music industry and outside it.

Fleetwood Mac Comes to the Wells Fargo Center for a Sold-Out Performance

BY DEBBI CALTON
Mainlinetoday

Q: What do Stevie Nicks, Dave Mason, Bekka Bramlett (daughter of Delaney and Bonnie) and Springfield native Rick Vito all have in common?

A: They each have Fleetwood Mac on their resume, as do at least 12 others. Yet it’s Stevie Nicks from the aforementioned who has been the most visible face of the band over the years, and she remains as one of the four core members, alongside band namesakes Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, and her once-upon-a-time duo partner, Lindsey Buckingham. In one incarnation or another, Fleetwood Mac has been a musical entity since their blues-rock early days in 1967. Evolving over the years into a rock/pop band, particularly with the addition of Buckingham/Nicks in 1975, they continue to play sold out shows decades later.

Fleetwood Mac will kick off their 48-date North American tour April 4 in Ohio and play Philly’s Wells Fargo Center as the second stop on the tour April 6 in a sold-out show. However, tickets are often freed up at the last minute, so make sure you listen to 102.9 MGK!

Although this is the first tour since 2009’s Unleashed, that’s not to say the band has been idle. Nicks has spent the last several years touring to promote her solo release In Your Dreams, which was accompanied by a video documentary. Buckingham has also been touring in support of his solo effort from a couple of years back, Seeds We Sow. Mick Fleetwood recently opened a restaurant in Maui called Fleetwood's On Front Street, is also now a vintner with more than 20 varietals of wine and his Mick Fleetwood Blues Band continues to play and garner Grammy nods. John McVie has also been living the "Aloha!" life in Oahu, spending the past three years with his family boating and such. Christine McVie parted ways with the band in the early '90s, and although she’s always been welcome to return, it is highly unlikely.

Three-quarters of the band was ready to tour as Fleetwood Mac a year ago, but Nicks wanted more time to promote her record. However, there is new Fleetwood Mac music in the form of two songs: "Sad Angel" and "Miss Fantasy" are set for digital release prior to the tour. These songs were recorded in early 2012 with Stevie overdubbing her parts in the studio as she was grieving the 2011 death of her beloved mother. Expect these songs to show up on the tour and, depending on how they are received, it could lead to a new album.

The Fleetwood Mac 2013 Reunion Tour also marks the 35th anniversary of the release of the Rumours album, undeniably one of the most successful albums in recorded history. In fact, earlier this year, a deluxe multi-disc version of the record was released that includes rare and live tracks. Although material from Rumours is always generously peppered throughout their live sets, expect more attention to be paid to them on this tour.

Stevie Nicks feels that 2013 will be the year of Fleetwood Mac, and the band wants everyone to know that Fleetwood Mac has taken a few breaks over the years, the band never breaks up.

SHOW INFO
April 6: 7 p.m.  Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia. Tickets: Sold out.

Weekend Rock Question: What Is the Best Fleetwood Mac Song?
Cast your vote in our weekly poll
Rolling Stone

Fleetwood Mac are a few weeks away from launching their massive 2013 world tour. They don't have a new album to support, so the show will be centered around their deep catalog of hits. They're also promising a few surprises, including the Tusk deep cut "Sisters of the Moon," which hasn't been played in about 30 years.

Now we have a question for you: what is your favorite Fleetwood Mac song? There's a ton to pick from. The group started as a blues-rock band in 1967. Led by Peter Green, they scored UK hits with "Black Magic Woman," "Man of the World" and "Oh Well." After many lineup changes, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group in 1975 and the band became a hit machine. "Rhiannon," "Dreams," "Don't Stop" and "Go Your Own Way" are just a few songs they scored on radio in the mid-1970s. Many hardcore fans, however, prefer the more obscure songs, particularly the material on 1979's Tusk. Vote for whatever song you want, but please only vote once and only for a single song.

Lindsey Buckingham on Stevie Nicks: 'There's a Subtext of Love Between Us'
Fleetwood Mac guitarist opens up about working and touring with his famous ex
Rolling Stone
By Jon Blistein

Just in time for Fleetwood Mac's upcoming world tour, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has opened up about both his romantic and working relationship with frontwoman Stevie Nicks.

"There's a subtext of love between us, and it would be hard to deny that much of what we've accomplished had something to do with trying to prove something to each other," Buckingham told Men's Journal. "Maybe that's fucked up, but this is someone I've known since I was 16, and I think on some weird level we're still trying to work some things out. There will never be romance there, but there are other kinds of love to be had."

The couple famously split while recording their landmark album Rumours and continued to work and tour together for years, often under tense circumstances. "You get used to it," Buckingham added of working with an ex. "And for me, getting married and having children was a positive outcome. I wonder sometimes how Stevie feels about the choices she made, because she doesn't really have a relationship – she has her career."

With Buckingham noting "there are a few chapters to be written in the Stevie-Lindsey legacy," the two are reuniting not just for Fleetwood's world tour but also to support an extensive Rumours reissue. The album celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.

Buckingham also discussed his most recent solo album, Seeds We Sow, which was received warmly by critics but failed to sell. "There's a disconnect between the preconceptions that go with being the age I am and what the music is," Buckingham said. "I sent the album to Daniel Glass, who runs [the label] Glassnote, and he loved it. Then he played it for his staff, guys in their twenties, and they said, 'Well, what are we going to do with it?'"

On Sunday night's "Oprah's Master Class," Fleetwood Mac's legendary lead singer, Stevie Nicks, will open up about her compelling life, and no topic is off-limits, including her drug use at the height of her success.

In this sneak peek, Nicks says, "I used to carry a gram of cocaine in my boot at all times." Reflecting back at herself during that period, she confronts the memory, asking, "Could you have just laid off the brandy and the coke and the pot for two days?" -- admitting that she didn't look beautiful; she looked high.

But drug use didn't hinder her success, and neither did her failing personal relationship with her musical partner Lindsey Buckingham. As Fleetwood Mac wrapped its No. 1 album "Rumours," she broke up with Buckingham, insisting that their focus should be on the success of the band: "Our breaking up is not going to break up this band. And I'm not going to quit and neither are you," Nicks told him. "The band was way more important than each separate person's problems. And we knew that."

Nicks says that if she and Buckingham hadn't joined Fleetwood Mac, their lives would have been dramatically different, and they probably would have gotten married and had a child.

But fate took them in a different direction: They did join the iconic band, which had existed for nearly 10 years before Nicks and Buckingham were brought in. "And then, bang, Mick [Fleetwood] called. And life changed. Overnight," Nicks says. After buying Fleetwood Mac's existing records and listening to them twice, Nicks says that she told Buckingham, "I think that we can add to this band. I think that, you know, I think they have a real kind of witchy side that would appeal to us."

Buckingham was more skeptical, instead wanting to finish the album the duo had started and even go back to school, but Nicks would have no part of that. She wanted to join Fleetwood Mac, and the rest is history.

In the interview, Nicks also addresses her unflinching decision-making nature -- and it all began with her endlessly supportive mother: "My mom would always say to me, 'You'd better be the president of your company, or the lead singer of your band, or the boss. Because you don't like to be told what to do.' And she was totally right." And while her mother encouraged her to do whatever she wanted, she was also strict. As Nicks says, "She was hard on me in a lot of ways because she wanted me to be independent. ... And she wanted me to be fearless."
