Stevie Nicks is joining "The Voice" as an adviser to Adam Levine's team for the upcoming season.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Stevie Nicks is joining "The Voice" as an adviser to Adam Levine's team for the upcoming season.

Filming is currently underway on the show's seventh season. Nicks, the 66-year-old Fleetwood Mac singer, has been working with Levine and his 12 team members as they assign songs and rehearse with the contestants in preparation for the show's battle rounds.

Levine and Blake Shelton will be joined by Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as coaches when the NBC show returns on Sept. 22.

The network says it will soon announce other advisers for this season.

Fleetwood Mac is set to embark on a 33-city tour starting Sept. 30 in Minneapolis, with Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and his ex-wife Christine McVie.

A little bit about the show and how it works.

The show's innovative format features four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and finally, the live performance shows.

During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don't get to see them - thanks to rotating chairs. A coach impressed by an artist's voice pushes a button to select the singer for his/her team. At this point, the coach's chair swivels so that he/she can face the artist selected. If multiple coaches push their buttons for a singer, the power then shifts to the artist to choose which coach he/she wants to work with. If no coach pushes his/her button, the contestant is eliminated from the competition.

Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing the artists on their team, giving advice, sharing the secrets of their success and getting help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit two team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience.

After the vocal battle, the coach must choose which of the two singers will advance to the next round of competition; the losing artist is available to be stolen by another coach. Each coach has two steals available during the battle rounds.

At the end of the battles, only the strongest members of each coach's roster remain and proceed to the knockout rounds. The artists will be paired again with a team member, but this time they find out only minutes before performing against whom they are competing. The artists each select their own songs and perform individually while their competitor watches and waits. They are vying for their coach's confidence and decision to take them to the live shows. Their coach will choose the winner and the artist not selected will be sent home.

In the live performance phase of the competition, the top artists from each team will compete against each other every week during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and the two singers with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week. In the end, one will be named "The Voice" and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract.

The mac tour with Chris as part of it and now this. Stevie has had lots of airtime lately good for her. Because she is finding new young fans by putting herself out their on camera. She a very busy lady these days. So happy for her!!T

Now.. if we could just convince her to drop out of the Mac tour and concentrate on promoting HER new music which is what the majority wants... !!! Lindsey too and have do a long over-do Buckingham, Nicks tour.. I mean obviously their presence isn't important.and hasn't meant a thing to FM for the last 16 years! and the goddess songbird McVie is back so who needs Stevie.... She should just let Christine McVie be the star....

With everything she's done this year, I think this is incredible ... amazing promotion not only for Stevie as a solo artist but Fleetwood Mac as well because this next season of The Voice will actually air concurrent with the Mac tour. Add this to a new Stevie album, the Mac tour, a new Mac album next year, and probably more touring to support that album ... So freaking awesome!!!!!! Can't wait ...

She doesn't need this... She's a r'n'r star, fgs. And please, someone tell her to change that dress!! It's like her horrible uniform

Finally, Adam Levine has a redeeming quality - he likes Stevie! Does anyone know if she will be on for the whole season or just one episode? As an aside, ditch the sunglasses, Stevie.

@ Zanobbi ... No, she doesn't need this ... She's doing things that she wants to do, things she finds fun and exciting. Her prerogative.

It's such a fabulous time to be a Stevie Nicks fan! She's been so prolific the past 3 years. I've been a fan since 1983, and she never did so much press, appearances, interviews, late night tv performances, American idol, The Voice, American Horror Story, an episode on Christina Applegate's short lived tv series, her movie, and so much more. Rock On Gold Dust Woman!

@MplsMike ... "The Voice" exciting?
@Anonymous ... Sure, she can dress as Liberace if she feels like but, ALWAYS that same dress??

When Stevie was 38 years old in 1986 I was terrified and convinced that we had seen the last of and the best of Stevie because she was clearly an addict living on the edge, as witnessed in the wonderful yet painful to watch live Red Rocks concert video. Alas, she survived and goes on and on and on year after year after year. Bravo Stevie. Never stop. This project sounds like the PERFECT cross-promotion project at this stage of her career with the upcoming Mac Tour and solo demos album. This will keep her in the limelight and introduce her to the "young kids". I have PLENTY of acquaintances in their 20's who never even heard of Stevie Nicks. And don't even ask anybody in their teens that question unless you want a blank stare. This project is PERFECT, and I've never even watched this show for more than three minutes. I'll be watching now, so it works in reverse for us "old guys" too, like me at age 52!

Personally, I don't find The Voice all that exciting, I can watch one or two eps per season before I lose interest. Stevie, however, clearly enjoys it or she wouldn't be doing it. Plus, shows like this still attract younger audiences and potential new fans for Stevie. You may not like the show, many people may not like the show, but she clearly does.

In more practical terms it's also a great place for her advertise not only 24 Karat Gold (is that the actual album title or is that still unofficial?) but the Mac tour and next year's Mac album. Promotion.

Isn't the Mac tour sold out? Probably doesn't need much promoting at this point.
What Mac does need from Stevie is her contributions for the album so they can finish it.

My only comments:

I have young elementary school aged kids and they talk about Stevie Nicks as if she's the gold standard for rock stars that no current younger pop acts can ever live up to.
And that's not from any influence from me. Stevie is definitely firmly meshed into the youth pop culture of today. We probably have Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to thank for that.

And my other comment:
Stevie should do whatever she feels like on TV, just please, for the love of God, lose the sunglasses.

Stevie has an eye that tears up, which is why she wears the glasses. They are also prescription.

Stevie wears the glasses because she's getting old and doesn't want the wrinkles around her eyes to appear prominently on TV. It's vanity. I don't mind them. What I do mind is the damn blouse she wears over and over again. It doesn't flatter her at all, and I can't understand why a woman with her fortune can't find some clothes (and shoes) that work for her. It baffles me. I know she's reached an age where she wants to keep things simple, but this is just not befitting such an icon.

No... Stevie wears glasses because she needs them to see! Whether they are clear or tinted is besides the point. Her eyes could be sensitive to light?

For those wondering, think 'Moves Like Jagger'- just about the hugest selling single of recent years, thanks to 'The Voice'- This is all carefully planned, to 'try' for Stevie to have what she wants the most in the world to have: a big hit album with at least one popular song- and the cd drops when Stevie's pre-taped segments will air, and you betcha she will fit in one live performance of a song from the new cd. She's been encouraged by Reprise and is working with the ''label's'' people- it's not confirmed, but Liz R may be 'out' as she pretty much underperformed on 3 high profile releases in a row, and it 'seems' these press releases are not from the Liz R offices. It's smarter for Nicks to utilize the label's current publicists for the new cd's promotion, it makes the label feel they have HER vote of confidence in them and they work harder- like setting up this gig on 'The Voice'- it's the best exposure for the cd. I'm 'not' suggesting she'll have 'Moves Like Jagger' sales, but this time, the angles are all being covered, and there were many loose ends, to mix metaphors, with the promotion of In Your Dreams.
Her participation on the show will not be the same as being a judge, it is purely a promotional tool for the coming cd and "I'' think she will see at least, very least, double the sales for '24K' than the last cd.

I hope she never stops wearing the glasses and the outfit just to drive all of the jerks crazy who are constantly going on about it!

Here Here to the last post take her as she is, she is 66 she can wear what ever she wants so like it or don't have nothing to do with her and her music!!!

Stevie has no reason to cover up her eyes - she looks beautiful. Sunglasses make people assume she does look old - which is not the case.

Interesting comments. Stevie Nicks is a fashion icon. Her outfits and looks are a huge part of her legend and persona she created - as she herself said many times.

I'd like to see her try the old Dame Edna style of glasses, purple or leopard pattern- she needs glasses, i think she should go wacky with them, or maybe those ones that make people's eyes look huge- if anyone remembers the tv show 'the nanny' the grandmother wore them and they were so funny but i think stevie would just rock them!

have fun with the glasses, cat woman glasses, anything to break it up a little. it's not a fashion statement or being stubborn that has had her in glasses for a long time now, she has to wear them- maybe even fringed frames would go with the shawls and capes she wears- the aviators can stay in the mix, but i think since she needs big glasses they should be jewel encrusted, just weird and out there, it would be fun! she's singing so well lately, that's what counts. i wish someone would do pages of scans of all kinds of wild, big glasses superimposed on her face, but the Dame Edna look would be a fun start- Dame Stevie!

I love some of these comments. Joking or not "drop out of her Fleetwood Mac engagements"? Fleetwood Mac, is who made her famous. Fleetwood Mac is the Money maker, and stevie loves the Mac!
