Photos & Review: Lindsey Buckingham Live in Orlando 8/7

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM LIVE
ORLANDO, FLORIDA
AUGUST 7, 2012
Photos by ebingerphotography - Gallery

Handsomely dressed in classic tight-fitting Levi's jeans with a black T-shirt and fashion-forward black leather jacket, the dashing and svelte sixty-two-year-old Buckingham took the stage shortly after 8pm. Without saying a word, the legendary guitarist approached the microphone and bowed his head graciously to the sell-out crowd amid a storm of thunderous applause as he broke into the show's opener, "Cast Away Dreams," from his 2006 album Under the Skin.

Despite the advertised implication to the contrary, this performance was anything but laid back. Even Buckingham's acoustic guitars were electrified hot rod models, and his passionate, high-energy delivery was more in line with that of a member of a mega-band performing at an "Enormo Dome" than a solo artist performing in a theater setting.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham Live in North Charleston Aug 4th

Don't Stop
BY: Devin Grant

"It was great to finally see someone who had been pretty instrumental in my musical upbringing. Even at 62 years of age, and with really nothing left to prove, Buckingham remains a passionate and energetic performer. He's also incredibly gracious, stopping after each song to take a bow and drink in the crowd's applause in a way that lets one know he truly appreciates it. When Fleetwood Mac tours next year, I'll drive any distance to see them live. For now though, Saturday night's show was a great experience."

No introductions are needed when discussing Lindsey Buckingham; his epic career in Fleetwood Mac to his prolific solo career precedes him.

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM
LIVE IN ATLANTA - JULY 28TH
Review and photos by Danielle Boise

If you haven’t heard of him in the last 30 plus years, then you’ve obviously been living under a rock and seriously are missing out on one of the greatest singer-song writers and overall musicians of our time and must be severely punished for this oversight in judgment.

Lindsey Buckingham quietly took the stage in a manner befitting only rock royalty, shrouded in a moody ambiance, with one spotlight and red light leaking around the corners at Center Stage for his nearly sold out Atlanta stop on July 28.  Yet, he was humbled by the fans that poured into the venue to see his solo performance–and believe me it was truly a solo performance. Only Buckingham and his guitar entertained the crowd of fans.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham - Kernersville 8/3 by Ryan Snyder

BUCKINGHAM LIVE, ALONE AND ESSENTIAL
by Ryan Snyder
YesWeekly

It was supposed to be a week in music storyboarded around rock’s most sordid romance saga: solo tours by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were to cross wakes only 48 hours apart in an unlikely place. As Buckingham’s small machine rolled along with uncompromised efficiency, it was Nicks’ big machine that faltered — co-headliner Rod Stewart fell ill and their Greensboro show was canceled, a decision perhaps aided by slow ticket sales. That wasn’t an issue for Buckingham, who’s packed show on Friday at Bucked Up Super Saloon in Kernersville provided for all the intimacy of a coffee house open mic night.

The nature of those machines was one of Buckingham’s favorite topics of conversation on Friday. He noted how shows like this one — in a small town at a country bar unaccustomed to hosting performers of his caliber — were only made possible by the big machine that is Fleetwood Mac. Rather than an an oversized, idling tour bus, it was Buckingham’s silver Mercedes L Class that sat immediately outside the door from where he took the stage to the unconventional, yet stunning venue for his purposes. The club’s dancefloor was transformed into a makeshift theater with foldout chairs, but the ambiance created by the sparse lighting and hardwood construction possessed all the warmth of a more traditional venue.

Lindesy Buckingham review

Lindsey Buckingham
North Charleston Performing Arts Center
Aug. 4

Lindsey Buckingham may be best known for his work with Fleetwood Mac, but he also has six solo albums and two live albums under his belt. Not surprisingly, during his Saturday night gig at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, he touched on both sides of his career.

With three amp stacks and a large battery of acoustic and semi-acoustic guitars at stage left, the 62-year-old Buckingham opened with a beautiful number titled "Cast Away Dreams" (from his 2006 album Under the Skin). Within moments, it was clear that neither his guitar playing nor his singing had diminished over the years. Buckingham followed the opener with "Bleed to Love Her," a deep cut that ended up on Fleetwood Mac's 1997 album The Dance. He earned standing ovations after both songs, a gesture that fans in the less-than-packed PAC repeated after every song.

After the first four songs, Buckingham started to loosen up a bit, interacting with the more enthusiastic members of the crowd. After one particularly vocal ticket holder hollered, "Lindsey, I love this kind of shit," Buckingham laughed and replied, "Well put, sir. So do I."

Review: Lindsey Buckingham at Plaza Live Orlando by Jim Abbott + 14 Photos

"The solo tour might be the small side of Buckingham’s career,
but it still makes a mighty big sound."
By Jim Abbott
Orlando Sentinel

It was a one-man show by Lindsey Buckingham on Tuesday at Plaza Live:

No opening act. Buckingham didn’t even bring a band.

Yet it would be understandable if members of the sold-out crowd might have needed an occasional reminder that the Fleetwood Mac star was working alone. It seemed incredible that one person could deliver such an array of sounds.

Buckingham and his arsenal of a dozen or so guitars, with subtle help from a few effects pedals, offered an impressive overview of his long career with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo performer.

Review: Stevie Nicks Orlando 8/3 Nicks offered a dramatic assortment of mystical gestures

STEVIE NICKS | ROD STEWART - LIVE IN ORLANDO
Review by: Jim Abbott

“Two legends, one stage,” proclaimed ads for the “Heart & Soul” tour of Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks.

Part of that might be a stretch, but there was one stage on Friday at a nearly packed Amway Center.

In terms of musical chemistry, these two veteran rock stars seem like an odd couple. Not exactly leather and lace, you know?

Still, Stewart and Nicks (who didn’t sing together on this night) have enough classic favorites for an appealing nostalgia trip. That’s especially true for Stewart, who also possesses a knack for channeling material of heavyweight songwriters from Bob Dylan to Van Morrison.

Nicks, on the other hand, hasn’t been as busy, releasing only two studio projects since 2001. In a well-constructed 75-minute opening set, songs from her 2011 “In Your Dreams” album were strong enough to hope that she doesn’t wait so long for the next release. Even without the rest of her old band, the classics “Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Landslide” remain powerful.

Dressed in flowing black, with matching fingerless gloves, Nicks offered a dramatic assortment of mystical gestures and the occasional spinning dance move, especially in a theatrical “Rhiannon.” Between songs, she was chatty enough to qualify as the heart of the “Heart & Soul” tour.

STEVIE NICKS | ROD STEWART - LIVE IN PITTSBURGH
My most anticipated internship assignment of the summer happened on Saturday night when I went to CONSOL Energy Center to photograph Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in concert.  I was especially excited to see Stevie because I consider her one of my musical heroes, and I had always wanted to watch her perform live.  Yet, I was also curious to see what Rod Stewart’s set was like, since I like a good number of his songs and had heard he was really funny and entertaining onstage.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham - Franklin, TN 7/27

Review: Lindsey Buckingham At Franklin Theatre, Franklin, TN
By Jessica Pace

Lindsey Buckingham’s summer tour has already been recognized by American Songwriter, but is something worth revisiting because of the musician’s July 27 sold-out performance on Franklin Theatre’s stage.

Known to often sing in a low, taut murmur, Buckingham unleashed his vocals fully, fleshing out the thin skins of his doleful strains like the weary beauty “Shut Us Down,” and inspiriting the carefree melodies of songs played with Fleetwood Mac like “Bleed to Love Her” and “Go Your Own Way.”

Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac's spark plug will be LIVE Aug 2nd in Carrboro, NC

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM @ THE ARTSCENTER
Indy Weekly

Fleetwood Mac would not have become a legend without Lindsey Buckingham. The band's spark plug, he's an endlessly energetic guitarist with a uniquely tangled style. He fashions catchy hooks before subverting them with production that favors complexity over knee-jerk appeal. He's a singular talent, the chief reason that the work of three disparate pop songwriters became one of the most cohesive catalogs in rock history. His solo performances offer up these gifts in all their unmitigated glory. Acoustic odes spiral into reverb-drenched bliss, and full-band rockers rush forth with meticulous momentum.

In short, be there, even if you're holding out for a 2013 Fleetwood Mac reunion.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham Live in Charlotte "his fingers are like some kind of tap-dancing spider"

Lindsey Buckingham, The Neighborhood Theatre, July 31, 2012

Review By Eric
Standing On The Shoulders of Giant Midgets

This is the thing you need to know if Lindsey Buckingham is coming to a stage in your area, whether he's coming as the small machine (what he calls his solo stuff these days) or the big machine (the Mac): that Lindsey Buckingham is one of the best guitarists you will ever see in your life. Regardless of whether you like any of his material with or without the band; this is a separate issue, and I couldn't give a damn whether you care for Fleetwood Mac or loathe them, or think you loathe them because there was a Christine McVie song that was sweet the first two times you heard it and the sense of drowning in maple syrup the subsequent hundred-and-fifteen. You will see very few guitar players better than Lindsey Buckingham. He is almost certainly one of the ten best players you will ever see in your life, should you be so lucky. Let me add that I only qualify this as much as I do because there's some slim chance you work at a retirement home for elderly blues musicians or live in some mythical Appalachian valley where every adult male is a blind bluegrass picker with a soul overbrimming with Man's ancient despair boiling up from a bottomless depth. It's just possible you were a roadie for The Yardbirds or something ridiculous like that, and so Lindsey Buckingham manages to tag in as the eleventh-best guitar player you could ever see. Fair enough. But he's good. He's goddamn good.

And when you go, if you go, watch those hands of his. Dammit, watch those hands.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham, Neighborhood Theatre, 7/31/2012

By Jeff Hahne
Creative Loafing
Includes Photos

Lindsey Buckingham only needed his voice and a guitar to connect with each person at the Neighborhood Theatre on Tuesday night. The large theater setting felt more like a coffeehouse as the Fleetwood Mac singer/guitarist hypnotized the packed venue with a 13-song set spotlighting his vocal and finger-picking abilities.

Dressed in jeans, black shirt and a jacket, the gray-haired Buckingham hit the stage and opened with "Cast Away Dreams" from his solo album, Under the Skin.

Receiving a brief standing ovation after the opening song, Buckingham smiled and said thank you before grabbing a new guitar and starting the next song. It was a pattern repeated often in the night as Buckingham and crowd alike seemed to enjoy every moment of the performance.

There were no requests taken, no changing of the setlist and no drama in the performance — he simply stood in the spotlight and showed his talents as a musician, singer and songwriter.

Buckingham offered a few brief stories between songs — of joining Fleetwood Mac, of being a part of a "big machine" vs. the current tour's "small machine" (he's shared the same stories at each tour stop) — but the music took center stage for the hour-and-15-minute set featuring solo material as well as a few Fleetwood Mac favorites.
On "Never Going Back Again," Buckingham's vocals went from whisper to anguished cries as he displayed his complete vocal range in a matter of minutes. He mesmerized the crowd with the finger picking display of "Stephanie," and inspired a singalong with set closer "Go Your Own Way." The emotion and dexterity that poured out during "Big Love" were a stunning reminder of Buckingham's talent and his captivating abilities.

The 62-year-old, whose songs helped propel Fleetwood Mac to stardom in the 1970s and '80s, hasn't missed a step over the years and while his voice and musicianship may be more seasoned, his strength in each hasn't wavered. There may be a lack of spontaneity in his solo performances, but Buckingham makes up for it by doing what he does best and doing it really well.

Lindsey Buckingham: Driving musical force behind real-life soap opera that was Fleetwood Mac

The best rock picks
Given the circumstances of his defining era – as driving musical force behind the real-life soap opera that was Fleetwood Mac in the mid-1970s – you might not expect Lindsey Buckingham to age well. And yet he has. Now 62, he has maintained an idiosyncratic pop sense and guitar style still capable of surprises, as shown by the elegantly atmospheric trance-pop on last year’s “Seeds We Sow.” Thursday brings him to the homey confines of the 355-seat Carrboro ArtsCenter, an unusual opportunity to see a performer of his stature in a small venue. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $46-$54; or (gulp) $250, which includes a post-show meet-and-greet with Buckingham. See artscenterlive.org for details.

CLEARWATER – Touring in support of his sixth solo album, Lindsey Buckingham takes the stage Monday, Aug. 6, 8 p.m., at Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St. Tickets start at $59. Call 791-7400.  The legendary guitarist, singer/songwriter, Grammy winner, producer and Rock And Roll Hall of Fame member released “Seeds We Sow” in September 2011.

Lindsey Buckingham Live in Charlotte, NC Tonight!
It must be a bitch being Fleetwood Mac svengali Lindsey Buckingham. Like his idol and fellow pop perfectionist Brian Wilson, he must live up to his musical legacy. In Buckingham’s case, he domineeringly directed the Mighty Mac to towering commercial and creative success. At the same time, Buckingham must live down his personal legend — the obsessive coke-blown genius and abusive demon lover to Stevie Nick’s gossamer faerie queen. The evidence suggests the two cannot be separated. After all, Buckingham’s fidgety, Peruvian-powdered fingerprints are all over Mac’s diffuse and difficult masterpiece Tusk. The guitarist seems to have accepted this. He’s on board for Mac’s 2013 tour, while solo he’s mellowed and matured, reflecting a man at peace with his place in the pop firmament. True, his simple, emotionally resonant lyrics have grown more opaque and self-consciously poetic, but his inventively arranged pop 'n’ roll and baroque folk still engage while getting under the skin. It’s the mark of a master that he makes it all look easy.

Lindsey Buckingham wows enthusiastic crowd in Spartanburg
Reviewed by: Dan Armonaitis

Lindsey Buckingham can sure pick a mean guitar.

The legendary musician, best known for his role in Fleetwood Mac, made that clear with an electrifying solo performance that wowed a small but enthusiastic crowd Sunday at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.

So impressive was the manner in which Buckingham moved his fingers that when an audience member loudly proclaimed, "You're the greatest guitarist in the world," it didn't seem that far-fetched a statement.

Buckingham smiled sheepishly when given the compliment but said not a word, instead going right back to work on his musical instrument.

Of course, Buckingham's talents aren't limited to his instrumental prowess; he's also a gifted singer-songwriter with a knack for producing well-crafted pop songs that are loaded with introspective lyrics and memorable hooks.

For about 75 minutes on Sunday, Buckingham performed an assortment of material from his solo career as well as a few audience-pleasing Fleetwood Mac classics.

The show started on a musically pensive note with Buckingham performing "Cast Away Dreams," from his 2006 solo album, "Under the Skin," followed by Fleetwood Mac's "Bleed to Love Her."

Then, after bowing his head in appreciation for the applause he was receiving, Buckingham spoke directly to the crowd for the first time during the evening.

"I always love coming around to this part of the country," Buckingham said. He then elaborated by noting that when he and his then-girlfriend, Stevie Nicks, were struggling in their pre-Fleetwood Mac days, the South was among the first places to show appreciation for their music.

"You guys got it and we've always loved you for it," said Buckingham, a California native.

Throughout the evening, Buckingham made sporadic references to the "big machine" that is Fleetwood Mac and the "small machine" that is his solo career. He talked about how each reinforces the other and helps him grow as an artist.

John Byrum managed to capture 88 great shots of Lindsey.

Stevie Nicks | Lindsey Buckingham - Pittsburgh & Atlanta Recap

Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks Live in Pittsburgh
Consol Energy Center - July 28, 2012

Stevie's truly turning into Bob Dylan! Bob Dylan never plays the same setlist night after night and again Stevie surprises and changes the set again last night in Pittsburgh. Crowd pleaser "Leather and Lace" with her vocal coach Steve Real was back in the set replacing "For What It's Worth". I think it's great that Leather and Lace is back but it's sad that it had to replace "For What It's Worth"! She sounds so great on that one live... With Moonlight, Annabel Lee and For What It's Worth not in the set, that leaves only two from In Your Dreams being played with 5 Solo tunes, 4 Fleetwood Mac and 1 cover.  Given her time frame to perform is short compared to a solo show, I'm sure it's a tough decision to leave tunes out of the set, maybe she could alternate, and keep people guessing... Again, no duets with Rod... I think it's pretty much a given that going forward we won't see Stevie during Rod's set.

Lindsey Buckingham Live in Atlanta
Center Stage Theater - July 28, 2012
REVIEW:

Well, Mr. Buckingham earned a 5/5 last night in Atlanta. The one thing I can do with a guitar is fingerpick it properly with an alternating bass and a melody on top. So naturally I look down on people who fingerpick differently (like LB) or can't fingerpick like that at all (Paul McCartney). Last night, Lindsey used his fingerpicking style to lay out a beautiful, rich tapestry of notes. It was gorgeous. Apparently he was looping a lot and I didn't f-ing catch it (alcohol) so no doubt that helped with the tapestry. I thought he might struggle with his voice. Wrong. His voice was fantastic for the whole ~80 min show. I read a review of a different show in which the crowd was so loud Lindsey had to ignore the dynamics of his song and play and sing everything loudly for the whole show. Last night was totally different. He played and sang so softly at times it was almost like a whisper. The crowd was dead silent. Fantastic. Lindsey played with no band, and used backing tracks for some of the electric numbers, all of which contributed to a very intimate show. Naturally people expect performers to tells stories in shows like that. That part didn't work too well. LB seemed a little nervous and forced telling stories. Fortunately, story-telling was kept to a minimum. Also odd was that the one number that didn't seem to work was Go Your Own Way. LB's mistake was playing it right after the epic power-ballad I'm So Afraid. The show gets five stars anyway. So in case it isn't obvious, don't miss Lindsey Buckingham.

Last night in Washington, Stevie performed the same set she performed in Nashville on the 24th... Moonlight and Annabel Lee are still out of the set and Stand Back moved ahead of Soldiers Angel.  She's sounding really loud and strong and seems to have gotten over whatever issues she was having with her throat.  No duets were performed with Rod again last night.  He didn't introduce her set either which was something he started last year, continued at the beginning of this jaunt, but seems to have stopped doing as well...  The mini photos below are by ML Layton via Getty.  Rod and Stevie continue on in Pittsburgh, PA tonight.

Seems to be a little setlist change (or addition) for Mr. Buckingham as well.  Last night in Franklin, TN - two shows into this leg of the tour, he pulls out Rock Away Blind!  Well that didn't take long!!  Seems to be a fan favourite wherever he plays and a request he's willing to fulfill... No video/photos or reviews from the sold out show have surfaced yet...

Lindsey met up with Walter Egan after the show... Walter also met up with Stevie too when she played Nashville the other night - along with former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette.  It's kinda trippy seeing all these old friends back together again!

An Evening With Lindsey Buckingham

I have seen Fleetwood Mac from outside an arena, along with 500 other people who couldn't get a ticket for the Rumours tour; inside the same packed arena for the Tusk tour; Stevie Nicks solo in an arena setting; and, last night, Lindsey Buckingham in a smaller, more intimate but still packed venue. I enjoyed them all.

Short but stellar: Lindsey Buckingham's solo concert at Birmingham's Alys Stephens Center
by Mary Colurso

A stellar solo concert. An attentive, appreciative group of listeners filled the majority of seats in the concert hall and gave Buckingham several standing ovations. The choral balcony was blocked with curtains; the venue holds about 1,100 people in that configuration.
