A Year In Review: Fleetwood Mac | Stevie Nicks | Lindsey Buckingham

Happy New Year
On this day, New Years Eve 1974/75 Mick Fleetwood asks Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks to join Fleetwood... and there changed their lives.. and ours!

Healthy, Happy wishes to everyone in Fleetwood Mac, past and present...

2011 Highlights:

I was going to put together a "Highlights of 2011" post today similar to what I did last year on New Years Eve to sum up the year. Once I started to go through the over 1,400 posts on the site from 2011 I realized this WHOLE YEAR was basically a hi-light (with a few low-lights) and an absolute dream for Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham fans.  The spill over from 2010 when both new albums from Stevie and Lindsey were announced to be released in 2011 made this a year like no other.  Even Mick and John showed up in the mix of all things Stevie and Lindsey.

With new albums/DVD's coming out it seemed like everyday there was something exciting happening.  All the Dave Stewart tweets about the making of Stevie's album from 2010 carried on in 2011 giving us tidbits of info about videos & Documentary making - which made for some exciting following along, all the press Stevie and Lindsey did, radio interviews, the multiple TV appearances from both, the Glee episode and effect on Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey's Awards, new official videos from each, Lindsey's Live DVD Release - plus tours. First Stevie toured with Rod Stewart in the US and UK, then solo with Michael Grimm, Stevie's Birthday Bash show in L.A., Lindsey's tour all over the US and Canada and Stevie ending the year in Australia with Dave Stewart & Brian McFadden.  All this just made it a little overwhelming to consider such a post - I could go on for days.

If you were there for the ride this year, it's been fun. If you are just checking in I've compiled a list of links below for you to sift through if you like.  Of course 2011 wasn't a complete breeze, there were bumps along the way for both... but all in all, I think they both succeeded in delivering what many believe to be their finest albums to date, and some really exciting live shows and events!

Thank you to all the live show reviewers, all the album and single reviewers and thank you to all the great photographers (professional or amateur) that photographed the shows.  It was a pleasure reading and looking at your work, good or bad.  With out you, this site would be pointless.

Here's hoping 2012 is as exciting as 2011.  Have fun!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Street Sounds: Fleetwood frontman farms a winner - Lindsey Buckingham "Seeds We Sow" Review

Despite fronting a mega-band in his off-time, singer/guitarist Lindsay Buckingham excels in under-the-radar releases.

Seeds We Sow is Buckingham’s sixth solo album and it offers a glimpse into the musician’s creative drive. He doesn’t let his high profile alter his style.

There are Mac-isms throughout Seeds We Sow, but they’re representations of Buckingham’s personality, not derivative attempts at past creations.  Illumination and That’s The Way Love Goes are pieces of classic Buckingham-influenced Fleetwood Mac, fueled by the guitarist’s slightly wild edge.

The stately guitar work of Buckingham marks him as a premier stylist; a heavy hitter who’s also a singer/songwriter of some renown.

Guitarist/singer? Singer/songwriter? Singer who plays guitar? All of these and more.

Buckingham’s one-two punch carries over onto his instrument of choice. His spidery acoustic lines crackle along at a manic, angular pace (Stars Are Crazy, Rock Away Blind) that’s at home in Appalachia.

His soaring and skewed electric work is singular and unpredictable and hasn’t showed signs of rust.

One Take updates Buckingham’s borderline frenzy against a straight ahead rhythm that’s cliché but tough.

There’s an under-current that mixes the melodic sunburst of The Beach Boys with the suggestive imagery of ‘80’s era Dylan and late ‘60’s Leonard Cohen.

When She Comes Down and Gone Too Far float this direction into both corners and She Smiled Sweetly connects the two sonic dots with cool logic.

Seeds We Sow = passion + precision.

TOP 10 BEST OF 2011: Stevie Nicks "In Your Dreams" # 9

Top 10 Records You May Have Missed While You Were Listening To Bon Iver
9: Stevie Nicks / In Your Dreams
In Your Dreams, Stevie Nicks‘ first truly great solo album since 1981’s Bella Donna, boasts one of the most ridiculous and simultaneously beautiful songs she’s ever sang. If you know the record already, I’m sure you can guess which track I’m talking about. It’s “Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream)” and if you’re unfamiliar, well then I’ll just say it, it’s a love song about two star crossed vampires. It is wildly absurd and yet Nicks pulls it off and it becomes the record’s most memorable moment not because of its subject matter, but because of its gorgeous chorus. The rest of the record more than lives up to the high of “Moonlight”, becoming one of the most surprisingly cool records released this year. If you bypassed In Your Dreams because you thought it was a disposable late period record from a 70’s relic, rethink your position and get lost in it’s dreamy sweep.
