Florence and the Machine Cover Fleetwood Mac at Glastonbury - Spinner

Florence Welch has an affinity with Glastonbury. Long before she was crowned the BBC's Sound of 2009, or the Brit Awards rising star, Welch was playing Glastonbury with Florence and the Machine – if any British festival suits her slightly otherworldly Renaissance aesthetic, it is Worthy Farm's.

For the last 18 months -- last year's Glasto included -- Florence and the Machine have been taking their debut album 'Lungs' around the world, with Welch earning a reputation as one of the UK's most transfixing frontwomen.

So how does she repay the crowd during her early evening Other Stage slot on Friday? Well, with a cover. One which she vowed would be just for Glastonbury.

"This is pretty much my favourite song of all time," she told the crowd. "All my heroes are in this band and I thought they were going to be here but they're not."

She added, "We're never going to play it again. We hope you enjoy it Glastonbury, this one's just for you." The band then broke into Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain,' a track from their 1977 mega-seller 'Rumours.' The huge whoops that greeted the song's trademark bass-led instrumental break were no accident -- this part of the song has been used in BBC promos for their Formula One coverage. Any petrol heads enjoying Welch's impressive live performance will have been given an extra opportunity to cheer, just this once.
