This weeks Album Charts Update: Fleetwood Mac U.S., UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada

AUSTRALIA - August 19, 2013

Fleetwood Mac have four albums in the Top 40 this week in Australia, two of them within the Top 10. The recently certified gold "25 Years - The Chain" [box set] reaches a new high on the Top 100 Albums Chart moving up to No.4 this week.  "Greatest Hits" also makes a big move on the chart - up to No.8 from No.50 last week.  The last time Fleetwood Mac had two albums in the Top 10 was back in 1977 with "Rumours" and "Fleetwood Mac".  "The Very Best Of" re-enters the Top 100 coming in at No.40 marking it's 318th week on the chart continuing it's streak of the longest charting album ever in Australia.

On the Top 50 Catalogue Albums Chart you'll find the above four albums all within the Top 10 with "25 Years - The Chain" moving up to the No.1 position from No.2 last week. On the Top 50 Digital Albums Chart two albums re-enter the Top 50 "Rumours" and "The Very Best Of".  Last Sunday's broadcast of "Sunday Night" featuring interviews with the members of Fleetwood Mac certainly helped pushed all these albums up on the chart!

Weekly Album Charts Update: Fleetwood Mac USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand

U.S.A. - August 17, 2013

Fleetwood Mac re-entered the U.S. Top 40 on this weeks Top 200 Albums Chart in the U.S. with "Greatest Hits".  Boosted by a deep discount on itunes that saw the return to the Top 200 numerous catalogue titles, Fleetwood Mac's hits package sold 10,874 units for the week ending August 4th rising from No.172 to No.29.  That's an impressive 345% increase in week over week sales where the previous week the album sold 2,446 units.

Fleetwood Mac Expected To Re-enter Billboard Top 40 This Week.

iTunes Discount on Catalogue Titles Reignites Album Sales

With last weeks iTunes sale on Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits at $6.99 in the U.S. (it's since gone back up to $11.99), digital sales relatively exploded for the album when you consider what the album was selling in previous weeks.

If Hits Daily Double's final number this week is correct, which for the most part Hits is fairly accurate in predicting album sales chart placement, Greatest Hits will land somewhere around #27 with sales of approx. 10,872 units. (Updated 8/7/13: The album will leap from #172 to #29 on Thursday's published Billboard Chart).  This would be a massive increase over the last two weeks sales where the album sold 2,446 units and 2,283 units.  It would also be the first time since it's initial release back in 1988 that it sat within the Billboard Top 40.

Labels should have more of these sales especially on catalogue titles... It's all about getting the music heard. Plus on catalogue album sales, it's pretty much all gravy for the record labels.

Same scenario happened with Rumours last week in the UK... The album was discounted to £3.99 at iTunes and BOOM, it jumps from #84 to #29 on the Top 100 Albums Chart with approx. 4,000 units sold.  Today the album is priced at £4.99.

Below is a breakdown of the catalogue albums experiencing a resurgence in the U.S. and should place high on this weeks Billboard Top 200 Album Chart.

13. The Essential Billy Joel - Billy Joel (17,440)
17. Hot Rocks (1964-1971) - Rolling Stones (16,335)
22. Chronicle: 20 Greatest Hits - Creedence Clearwater Revival (14,770)
26. Greatest Hits - Queen (11,042)
27. Greatest Hits - Fleetwood Mac (10,872)

After re-entering Billboards Top 200 last week at #196 Greatest Hits moves up 24 positions this week to #172 with sales for the week ending July 28th of 2,446 units vs 2,283 the previous week.  The album was picked up mainly in the digital form where it sold 1,880 units. iTunes has the album discounted at $6.99 which I'm sure helps!  Sales to date in the U.s. from November, 1991 to present = 4,677,882.

Billboard Hot 100
55th Anniversary By The Numbers
To celebrate the 55th Anniversary of Billboards Hot 100 Singles Chart - the magazine has compiled a list of the charts Top 100 Artists based on single appearances on the chart, weeks on the chart, peak position the singles achieved etc.

Fleetwood Mac made the chart coming in at #84 which is pretty great considering they haven't had a single on the chart in a decade not since "Peacekeeper" made an appearance back in 2003.  And they haven't had a successful single on the chart since probably 1997 with Landslide.

Fleetwood Mac Albums, singles and DVD's charting worldwide.

AUSTRALIA - July 22, 2013
Strong showing this week in Australia for Fleetwood Mac albums with 4 titles sitting in the Top 100.  25 Years The Chain leads the way and reaches a new peak position this week moving into the Top 10 at #7, up from #17 last week. The boxset also hits #1 for the first time on the Top 50 Catalogue Chart. What's likely boosting it's numbers on the charts is the option to receive the 4CD boxset when you buy a concert ticket. Three other albums also move up slightly this week on the Top 100 with Greatest Hits in the lead with a 14 place jump to #50.  Rumours and The Very Best Of also make slight gains over last week. Cause and Effect: Big Business for Fleetwood Mac in 2013 - on the road and on the charts

IT'S BIG BUSINESS FOR FLEETWOOD MAC IN 2013:
7 shows reporting so far:  New additions to the Tour Stats list this week include Philadelphia, Toronto, Newark and Tacoma.  Massive numbers for Fleetwood Mac overall but especially in Philly, NYC, Toronto Newark and Tacoma. The important average ticket price overall is sitting at $110.00 per, which is huge, but this is based only on these 7 shows.  It likely comes down to a more reasonable number once you factor in the unreported shows. Still, some really healthy grosses on a per show basis.

Whether the live show drives cd sales or vise versa I'm not sure.  Used to be the live show drove your album sales and I'm sure it still does to a certain extent, but it's clear the money is definitely on the road.

Fleetwood Mac's catalogue has been making an impact on the charts world wide pretty much none stop since the promotional machine kicked in back in early 2011 for Stevie's solo album "In Your Dreams" and her subsequent touring.  It continued through Lindsey's released solo material and touring in 2011 and 2012. With each reminder of their vast catalogue through 2011 and 2012 like the Glee episode dedicated to Rumours, The Tribute Album release, the 25 Years: The Chain box set re-release outside North America, and the re-release of the multi-disc Rumours package this year - all this material just re-introduces the band to a whole new generation of music lovers/listeners. It almost seems calculated when you think about it. All these little promotional segments or events along the way over the last couple of years seemed like calculated moves to re-introduce the public to Fleetwood Mac and their catalogue and ultimately gear them towards this particular tour.  It's like cultivating an audience in a sense... Cause and Effect.  Just a theory.

U.S.A. - 6/29/13
Rumours hangs on another week on Billboards Top 200... The album has been bouncing in and out of the chart pretty much all year.  It's up this week to #135 from #163 last week.

"Everywhere" sticks around the UK Top 30 for a second week. That little Shetland Pony Ad continues to fuel the momentum.

Last week when "Everywhere" re-entered the UK charts at number 15 it did so on sales of 17,798 singles giving Fleetwood Mac their first Top 20 hit in 25 years in the UK; only surpassed by the same track back in 1988 making it to number 4. The spin off effect on other tracks was evident with "Little Lies" last week seeing a bump in tracks sold as well (1,640) boosting it to number 147 on the unpublished charts.  Go Your Own Way also saw significant sales (2,523) allowing it to re-enter the chart at number 98.  Greatest Hits was the big winner in terms of percentage increase in sales jumping from 128 to 69 with 2,310 in sales.  The Very Best Of also saw benefits climbing from 156 to 99 with 1,457 in sales.  Rumours last week declined in sales moving from 17 to 19 with a respectable 8,722 units sold in it's sixth week in the top 20.

This week "Everywhere" drops to number 29 on the Top 100 chart, which is still pretty good! After spending the last six weeks in the top 20 Rumours drops down to 23 from 19 last week. Greatest Hits drops to number 78 from 69 and The Very Best Of moves up to 74 this week from 99 last week.

"Everywhere" also spends a second week on the Top 100 Singles Chart in Ireland moving down to number 74 this week after re-entering the chart at number 46 last week.

World Charts Update: Fleetwood Mac are 'Everywhere'

The big news today is that Fleetwood Mac score their first Top 20 hit in the UK in 25 years with 'Everywhere' re-entering the top reaches of the chart this week jumping from #87 last week to #15 this week. Ironically it was 'Everywhere' that was their last top 20 hit reaching #4 in April, 1988.  Thanks to the Three Network Dancing Pony advert, the song has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity across the UK and Ireland.

'Rumours' hangs on for a sixth week in the top 20 moving down only slightly to #19 this week.  The 1998 'Greatest Hits' gets a bump on the chart because of 'Everywhere' jumping to #69 from below the Top 100 at #128 last week.  The Very Best Of also sees an increase in activity, likely because of 'Everywhere' just making it back inside the Top 100 at #99.  'Go Your Own Way' sees itself back within the Top 100 singles chart at #98 this week also placing just inside the Top 40 Catalogue Singles Chart at #40.

In Scotland and Ireland, much like the rest of the region, 'Everywhere' enters both the Top 40 Scottish Singles Chart at #13 and in Ireland the Top 100 Singles Chart at #46.

What's interesting about "Everywhere" being back on the chart in the UK is it's most likely spurred on by the recent use of the song in Three's latest barmy TV advert featuring Socks the "Dancing Pony". The advert is hilarious and features Socks dancing to his favourite song, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’. He's quite the mover and can even moonwalk and Three are also inviting users to make their customised Pony dance over at PonyMixer.com.

With almost 850,000 views in just a few days it's apparent the commercial is impacting.

How bizarre that Fleetwood Mac's music is being used in two horse themed commercials this year. You'll recall Budweiser using "Landslide" in their Super Bowl ad this year featuring the Clydesdale.  So far that commercial has had over 11 million views on youtube. Check it out if you haven't seen it HERE  It's all good... Only adds up to more sales for the tunes and exposure to Fleetwood Mac.
