Video: Stevie Nicks speaks to @RollingStone about Christine McVie's return to Fleetwood Mac

Hanging Out at Stevie Nicks' House
The iconic singer tells us about her new documentary and Christine McVie's return to Fleetwood Mac
By Gavin Edwards
RollingStone

We recently visited the Los Angeles home of rock goddess Stevie Nicks, and while we can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a dedicated shawl closet and a tambourine vault, we can report that the kitchen TV was tuned to HGTV and the chandelier was fabulous. That house is featured throughout In Your Dreams, the entertaining film documenting the recording of Nicks' underrated 2011 solo album of the same name. Album producer Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics) is also a compulsive videographer; he and Nicks are named as codirectors, although she dismissed the credit, saying, "It was very nice of them, but I didn't direct this." The documentary, recently released on DVD, was spurred by Dave Grohl: when Nicks lamented to him that her album had died, he told her that the only way to revive it was to release a film. "Go home and call Dave Stewart right now," he instructed her.

Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks talk about addiction, sexism – and how they can't wait to play together again

Fleetwood Mac's Stevie and Christine: 'We were like rock'n'roll nuns'

The Guardian

Through all Fleetwood Mac's years of druggy excess and bitter breakups, the friendship between Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks never faltered. They talk about addiction, sexism – and how they can't wait to play together again.

September 2013, and Stevie Nicks is about to perform Landslide at the O2 in London, where Fleetwood Mac are playing three nights. Before she does, though, she has a dedication to make. "This is for my mentor. Big sister. Best friend," she says, and there are precious few people in the venue who don't know she's talking about Christine McVie, her fellow female bandmate and the Mac's keyboard player, as well as one of its singers and songwriters from 1970 until she quit in 1998.

It is not the first time Nicks has talked about McVie. In 2009, she told the audience at Wembley Arena that she thought about her "every day". Earlier this year she admitted to the Observer: "I'd beg, borrow and scrape together $5m and give it to her in cash if she would come back. That's how much I miss her!"

This time, though, was different. When it came to the end of the band's set, McVie stepped onstage with them for the first time in 15 years to run through Don't Stop, her enduring anthem about staying positive in the aftermath of a breakup.

"It was like falling off a bike," McVie says when I meet her in her south London apartment, a beautiful space situated so close to the banks of the Thames that it feels as if we're floating above it. "I climbed back on there again and there they all were, the same old faces!"

Was she nervous?

Plug Pulled on Dennis Wilson Biopic "The Drummer" Vera Farmiga was to play Christine McVie

Beach Boy's Estate Pulls Out of Planned Biopic 'The Drummer'
A long-delayed film about Dennis Wilson's final years may never happen, producers tell THR.
by Patrick Flanary
The Hollywood Reporter

Aaron Eckhart was too exhausted from shooting I, Frankenstein in Australia to portray Dennis Wilson -- the Beach Boys drummer who drowned 30 years ago this month -- in a film about the musician’s final years, and left the production just before shooting was to begin in June 2012.

His departure has indefinitely delayed The Drummer, and now, producers tell The Hollywood Reporter, the biopic's future is murkier. “It was a huge blow for us when Eckhart pulled out,” says Brad Rosenberger, the film’s music supervisor and a publisher of Wilson’s songs, adding that Eckhart had spent six months learning to sing and play the piano and drums. (Vera Farmiga also was cast as Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie.)

The latest setback, however, might be the most insurmountable. The trustee for Wilson’s estate, which represents his children, suggests that the project is now officially off. “The Dennis Wilson Trust can confirm that there is no plan for proceeding with the Drummer project,” Shelley Surpin said in an email, declining to elaborate.

Wilson’s son Carl and daughter Jennifer -- children from separate marriages -- had signed on to co-produce the film in October 2011. The deal represented the first time the family had sanctioned a movie, enabling director Randall Miller to secure the rights to use songs from Pacific Ocean Blue, Wilson’s solo album. But their unease about the screenplay, written by Jody Savin, has contributed to the project’s delay, Wilson’s producer and writing partner Gregg Jakobson reveals. “The kids, they get bad counseling,” he said in a recent interview. “It’s the estate -- they don’t know anything about the entertainment business. They hardly even really ever knew their dad.”

Rosenberger, who spent 20 years at Warner-Chappell, approached Wilson’s family with the film idea in 2008 and said that the children remain interested. “With everything in the right place, they would love to see a movie honoring their father,” he tells THR. “There are no plans to make this Dennis Wilson movie now, but I don’t think it would be accurate to say we don’t want a movie to be made.”

Video: Highlights of Stevie Nicks chat with @Billboard on In Your Dreams DVD + Fleetwood Mac

Stevie Nicks On 'In Your Dreams' Film, Christine McVie's Fleetwood Mac Return?
By Keith Caulfield
Billboard Magazine

Available at Amazon
or Warner Bros.
"The year of making ('In Your Dreams') was the best year of my life," says rock legend Stevie Nicks in her documentary of the same name.

The film, which was released to home video on Dec. 3, captures the writing and recording of Nicks' most recent studio album. Released in 2011, the set was co-produced by Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame), and was her first solo studio effort since 2001's "Trouble In Shangri-La."

Billboard sat down with Nicks at her home in Los Angeles -- the same house where much of "In Your Dreams" was recorded -- to talk about the new DVD and more. Highlights of that extended chat are in the video below.

Stevie Nicks on "In Your Dreams DVD", John McVie's Health, Possible Future with Christine McVie

Stevie Nicks ' movie In Your Dreams, which documents the creation of her album of the same name, is out on DVD this week.  More than just your standard "making-of" film, In Your Dreams captures the surreal atmosphere at Stevie's L.A. mansion, where she, her producer Dave Stewart and various friends and associates lived and worked while recording.  The idea, says Stevie, was to give fans a truly immersive experience.

"We wanted people to feel like they were making the record with us," Stevie told ABC News Radio at her home in L.A. "We wanted people to feel like they were here in this house with me and Dave and all the characters that were here -- the singers, the chef, my goddaughter, my assistant, all the people that did all the hard work around us to make it easy, all the techs, everybody."

"There was a lot of people here every day," she adds. "And if any of my friends came into town and wanted to come over, it was fine. I don't think I've ever been in a situation like that before."  In fact, it was quite a freeing experience, because as Stevie explains, making a record with her band Fleetwood Mac pretty much requires everyone to be on lockdown.

"When you're recording with Fleetwood Mac, it is not fine to invite all your friends over.  No.  It's very closed.  It is a secret society...it is not cool," she tells ABC News Radio. "You don't just say, 'I'm coming with 10 friends.'"

Speaking of Fleetwood Mac, the band was forced to cancel their Australian and New Zealand tour when bass player John McVie was diagnosed with cancer in October.  But Stevie tells ABC News Radio, "He's doing great...if I ever had any psychic knowledge about me in this body, I am telling you that John McVie is gonna be just fine."  In fact, Stevie says John will be with the band when they play three shows in Vegas starting December 30.  Then, she says, "He's gonna have a little operation....he'll probably take a couple weeks to recover, and then...sky's the limit!"

As for John's ex-wife Christine McVie , who left Fleetwood Mac in 1998, what does Stevie think of her recent comments in the British press that she'd rejoin the band "if she was asked?"  Well, according to Stevie, Christine doesn't need an invitation.

"It is her band.  If she wants to come back, she will come back," Stevie tells ABC News Radio.  However, she says Christine needs to know what she's getting herself into. "The only thing I said to her was, 'Understand how physical this is. This is a two-hour-and-40-minute set....this is a grueling set,'" Stevie reveals, adding that she also told Christine, "Just be sure that you want to do it, because you can't come in and out if you come back!"

Stevie will meet and greet her devoted fans and sign copies of the In Your Dreams DVD on Wednesday at the Barnes & Noble at Farmer's Market, Hollywood.  Look for her there at 7 p.m.

Three - The Christmas Pony #DancePonyDance Returns with Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere"

Socks the Three Pony Returns, and he's got into the spirit of Christmas

Who didn't love Socks? He's the moon walking Pony that was featured on Three's TV adverts earlier this year. Well, the good news is that he is returning to our screens this Friday and he's been getting in the Christmas spirit.

In Three's words 'He's back this Friday. And he's bringing tinsel'. He'll be dancing to Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere' once more, but this time around the advert has been spruced up for Christmas.

Everything has been covered with Winter snow and you should also spot a Christmas tree, a reindeer (or is it?) and even a Christmas-themed tractor. However, the real fun starts on Friday when Three will put their new PonyGifter website live.

On the site users will be able to choose to personalise a selection of all-singing, all-dancing eCards. They all feature the nations favourite Shetland Pony and you'll be able to send them to friends and loved ones.

Anyway, on with the new advert.

3gUK

When 3's incredibly popular ad campaign featuring the little pony dancing to Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere" originally debuted in early 2013 it drove "Everywhere" back to the UK charts re-entering the Top 100 Singles Chart March 9, 2013 at No.87.  The song peaked the following week at No.15.  This gave Fleetwood Mac their first British Top 20 Hit in 25 years. "Everywhere" originally peaked at No.4 in April, 1998 and was Fleetwood Mac's last Top 20 British hit prior to this chart re-entry.  Could we be in for round two?  Cute ad!

Christine McVie wants to rejoin Fleetwood Mac! if they want her back?

Christine McVie: I want to rejoin Fleetwood Mac

Singer and songwriter says she would like to return to band she left 15 years ago – if they want her back
The Guardian

When Christine McVie joined her old band, Fleetwood Mac, onstage during their recent shows at the O2 in London, it was billed as little more than a special treat for fans.

Yet the group's singer, keyboardist and songwriter seems to have caught the bug and has said she would like to rejoin permanently. "I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them," she said. "I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted … but it hasn't happened so we'll have to wait and see."

McVie was with the band for 28 years before quitting in 1998. "I think I was just music'd out," she said. "I suffered from some kind of delusion that I wanted to be an English country girl, a Sloane Ranger or something … and it took me 15 years to realise that it's not really what I wanted at all."

McVie was the band's main songwriter and central to its transformation from a blues group to the current incarnation featuring Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that created the pop-oriented sound behind huge-selling albums such as Rumours and Tango in the Night. McVie wrote Don't Stop, Songbird and Everywhere, among many others.

She has never before expressed regrets about leaving and has spent the past decade living a reclusive life in a
17th-century mansion in Kent. Despite this, she thrilled fans during Fleetwood Mac's current tour by joining the band for a run-through of Don't Stop. McVie said playing with the band again was like riding a bike. "It was amazing, like I'd never left. I climbed back on there again and there they were, the same old faces on stage."

Fleetwood Mac are on a tour break after cancelling several Australian and New Zealand dates after news that their bassist, John McVie, has cancer. They plan to resume touring when he is better. McVie said her ex-husband's prognosis was "really good. He's having his treatment in LA right now, but they caught it really early so he should be up and running in a couple of months."

Nicks has often said she wants Christine McVie to rejoin. However, recent reports suggest guitarist Buckingham is worried her appearance could steal the limelight. McVie said this was "fair enough. From his point of view, it was a business thing. [Promoters] would be asking why I wasn't playing in Amsterdam or Berlin. They obviously wanted headlines about them, not me, and I quite agree with that."

McVie accepts rejoining is a long way off. "It's a long way down that path if it ever were to happen. John's got to get well first, so it hasn't been talked about. We'll have to wait and see."

Her remarks were made in a Guardian interview with her and Nicks to be published later this year. During the interview, in which they discuss their friendship, their decadent 1970s lifestyle and experiences of sexism in the music industry.

Plus there's the Record and Album Of The Week and the Monday round of PopMaster. Christine McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 while married to founder member John McVie. Christine is currently working on new solo material which is planned for a forthcoming album which she describes as marking a return to her musical sound from the seventies.

Listen to each day's interview and track segment below after the jump... Christine on Friday October 11th describes how she's getting back to her music, writing, recording demos, working vocal muscles she hasn't used in a long while. Turns out completely abandoning music and moving back to England isn't exactly what she thought she wanted, but it took her a long time to realize it.  After a bit of therapy and analysis, she's back to enjoying the writing process and playing piano again... and what she's been working on sounds very commercial, and sounds very much like her Rumours days... She says she feels 20-30 years old. DON'T STOP Christine...

Lindsey Buckingham nearly blocked last night’s onstage Fleetwood Mac reunion, reveals Stevie Nicks in MOJO

Fleetwood Mac: The Story Behind Christine’s Live Return
Lindsey Buckingham nearly blocked last night’s onstage reunion, reveals Stevie Nicks in MOJO

Mojo Magazine
By Andrew Male

Stevie Nicks has talked to MOJO about Christine McVie’s on-stage return to Fleetwood Mac last night at London’s O2 Arena.

Speaking in an interview to be published in MOJO 241 (UK shelf date October 29) the diminutive Mac singer confirmed that while McVie, who left the group in 1998, has “just returned to do one song” it could have been “a few songs” if it hadn’t been for one particular stumbling block.

“Lindsey [Buckingham] is very funny about that,” Nicks told MOJO’s James McNair. “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. Much as Lindsey adores her; and he does – she’s the only one in Fleetwood Mac he was ever willing to listen to – he doesn’t want the first night reviews to be all about Christine’s one song, rather than the set we rehearsed for two months.”

McVie was met with rapturous applause last night when she joined her old band to play keyboards and sing Don’t Stop, and she will be appearing with the group again at their final O2 show tomorrow. But, while the route to the stage hasn’t necessarily been a smooth one, Nicks also added that “it will be wonderful to have her back up there with us. And from there who knows.”

In a candid, funny and emotional interview, Nicks goes on to discuss her childhood, her solo career (“Fleetwood Mac weren’t that impressed”) the “unresolved” aspects of her and Buckingham’s relationship, and the bizarre night she slept on the floor of Prince’s purple kitchen.

... I knew it!  I had a feeling there was something behind Chris only doing one song!  Wish I had of known this earlier today when I passed Lindsey outside of Harrods... I would have asked him about it. (That's him in the green jacket).

I like the way Stevie says "and from there.. who knows"  I think if we as a fan community could somehow make our voices heard - encouraging them to reunite to record again... It just may happen!

Christine McVie to make a return.. and it’s no rumour... But will she join Fleetwood Mac in Dublin tonight?

By James Ward
Irish Mirror

Fleetwood Mac fans set for treat as former key band member gets ready to make Dublin appearance

Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll! If ever there was a band that followed that mantra to the letter it was Fleetwood Mac.

The long-lasting British- American group may be remembered for such hits as The Chain, Little Lies and Go Your Own Way, but in terms of booze and drug-bingeing, partnerswapping and back-stabbing drama, it makes the Rolling Stones look like a church choir.

This year marks 35 years since the release of the band’s masterpiece ‘Rumours’ that would go on to become one of the most successful records in history selling over 40 million worldwide.

The rock icons are currently on a critically acclaimed world tour that reaches Dublin for two sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday night.

The band have been rehearsing in the capital and spotted in the five-star Four Seasons hotel on Wednesday night.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, frontwoman Stevie Nicks has revealed that former key member Christine McVie, who left the band over 14 years ago,

has been in Dublin rehearsing with the band.

“She’s coming to do two nights (in London) and probably do ‘Don’t Stop’. I’m not sure, but she’s coming to Dublin to rehearse whatever song she’s going to do. We never wanted her to leave, so for us it’s amazing that she is going to come,” Nicks said.

McVie won’t accompany the tour beyond London, apparently down to her fear of flying.

British drummer Mick Fleetwood, the only original member in the present line up, revealed earlier this year that there is a new Fleetwood Mac album in the pipeline and that new songs will be released online in the coming months.

Fleetwood Mac’s 46-year dark history is the stuff of legend but t begins long before the destruction of love affairs that is chronicled in painful detail on Rumours.

Set lists from the US leg of the tour show the band playing the lion’s share of Rumours with smatterings from Tusk, Fleetwood Mac and only one, Big Love, from their 1987 album Tango in the Night.

Fans disappointed that they didn’t snap up a ticket to see the Mac in Dublin may get a second chance to see them live as they have said they would like to be included on the Glastonbury 2014 bill.

Speaking to music site Gigwise, Fleetwood explained that although last year’s rumoured festival slots came to nothing due to touring commitments, next year could be a different matter.

“Hopefully Glastonbury will ask us again,” he said, “although they’ve probably got fed up of asking us!”

Birmingham's set for return of Rock Legends Fleetwood Mac

Stevie Nicks is back on tour with Fleetwood Mac. Steve Adams chats to her about what fans should expect.

by Steve Adams
Coventry Telegraph

Rock legends Fleetwood Mac are back on the road for their first UK shows in four years and the buzz is that keyboardist Christine McVie – who quit the band in 1998 – will rejoin other members of the band’s classic line-up for at least a couple of performances.

The move has delighted singer Stevie Nicks as much as the fans, as she formed an instant bond with the band’s only other female member when she joined in 1975 alongside guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.

“I knew from the beginning when Lindsey and I joined Fleetwood Mac, that Christine and I had to really stand our ground,” says the enigmatic singer.

“We had to be a force of nature or we would be considered second-class rock stars. And between the two of us that was never gonna happen!

“We made a pinky swear pact – ‘we will never, ever walk into a room that’s full of rock stars and not be treated as if we’re not as good as them.

“Because we are as good as them.’”

The duo more than proved their point, writing many of the band’s biggest hits, including a huge chunk of seminal album Rumours, which has now sold a staggering 45 million copies worldwide. Nicks has also enjoyed a successful solo career alongside her four decades in and out of Fleetwood Mac – the band have a habit of splitting and reforming – but is happy to be back performing, even though the recent US tour schedule was gruelling.

“For me it’s not such a big deal because I stay up really late every night anyway. But for Lindsey, Mick (Fleetwood) and John (McVie), they go back to their rooms and go to sleep.”

The singer believes the effort has been worth it though, rating the shows as some of the best they’ve played.

“When people in Britain see the show they’re gonna be blown away!” she says.

“Honestly, rock bands that are 30 years old would baulk at this schedule, the amount of songs we’re doing and the length of the show. They would go, ‘you are kidding? Two hours and 40 minutes a night?’”

The gigs also include the band’s first new music in a decade, after they released an EP earlier this year. The music was recorded just after Nicks’ mother died last year, which left her so devastated she was unable to go to the studio.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere,” she admits. “I didn’t leave the house for almost five months. I worked on the edit of my documentary about the making of (solo album) In Your Dreams, and then I got pneumonia.

“I watched the entire first season of Game Of Thrones – so that was great! That certainly took my mind off everything.”

Not surprisingly the almost ethereal pop star is quite a fan of the fantasy show.

“The author (George RR Martin) is my age and it blows my mind that he’s able to create this vast, interlinked world,” she says.

“As a songwriter I write little movies. But I can’t imagine sitting down and writing even one small book. I would love to write some music for Game Of Thrones. I’ve written a bunch of poetry about it – one for each of the characters.”

The 10 Greatest Christine McVie-Led Fleetwood Mac Songs

In wonderful news, Stevie Nicks recently revealed that her close friend and fellow lead songstress Christine McVie would be rejoining Fleetwood Mac for one song at two of their shows on the European leg of the band's reunion tour. McVie left in 1998 and, for Fleetwood fans, the news is not only surprising but more than welcome as the band is even better when including the rich tonality of balladeer and multi-instrumentalist McVie. The singer left the band largely due to a fear of flying that inhibited her ability to travel on tour and Fleetwood Mac has gone on to reunite several times after her departure despite missing the unique dynamic the prized third vocalist.

In honor of this news, let's celebrate the wonderful and often hit-making talent of Christine McVie and take a look at 10 of her greatest contributions to one of the biggest rock bands in history.

Christine McVie to perform w/ Fleetwood Mac in Dublin or London?... The suspense is going to kill me!

Singer Christine McVie is to rejoin Fleetwood Mac at two

BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour
Interview Monday, Sept 16th 10am
shows on their forthcoming European tour, her former bandmate Stevie Nicks has confirmed.

BBC News

McVie was part of the group from the 1970s to the '90s, writing and performing some of their biggest hits.

Nicks told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour that McVie, who left the group in 1998, would perform one song at two concerts.

The tour begins with two shows in Dublin on Friday 20 September followed by a further three in London.

Nicks told Woman's Hour:
"She is going to come and do a song on the second two shows. I think it will probably be Don't Stop. I don't know, but she's coming to Ireland to rehearse with us."

Nicks did not clarify which two shows she was referring to. A spokesman for the group said he could not confirm the details.

Don't Stop was McVie's biggest US hit as a songwriter, reaching number three in 1977.

The news comes despite comments from Nicks last December, saying of a possible return by McVie: "There's no more a chance of that happening than an asteroid hitting the Earth."

Nicks, however, went on to explain that her British former bandmate "doesn't want to fly" and "doesn't want to come back to America", which may explain why she has agreed to appear at a couple of UK shows but not their US dates earlier this year.

Christine McVie Spotted at Radio2 in London - Tuesday

Hmmm.... Not sure what to make of this... But it appears Christine was being interviewed about something yesterday in London at Radio2.

Kim Wilde tweeted that she loved bumping into Christine again... Kim Wilde and Christine both attended the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony last May 16th in London where they shared a table.

Bring it on Christine... We are ready for whatever you have to offer.
