STEVIE NICKS BIOGRAPHY Part of Bio Channel UK "Women Rock" Series

WOMEN ROCK
Please welcome on stage some of music's most quintessential female rockers who pack stadiums, shelves, and a whole lot of hard rockin' attitude. They're award winners, hell raisers and iconic rock divas, with more sex appeal than you can shake a finely tuned guitar at - what's not to like?

The Biography Channel UK

Up first on August 2nd...

STEVIE NICKS
Born in 1948, renowned singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks is best known for the time she spent in Fleetwood Mac. However, she has also enjoyed a successful solo career.

Nicks joined the band in 1974 and enjoyed huge success with the 1977 album 'Rumours', which topped the US album charts for 31 weeks.

Fleetwood Mac continued to make albums over the next few years, but Nicks felt herself increasingly drawn to solo work.

In 1981, she released the album 'Bella Donna', which shot to the top of the charts and featured the hits 'Edge of Seventeen' and 'Leather and Lace'.

The following year, she recorded another album with Fleetwood Mac, before putting out a second solo record the following year.

Despite her professional career being on a high, Nicks' health took a turn for the worst in the late 80s when she battled a cocaine addiction, which created a hole in her nasal passage. She later became addicted to the tranquilliser Klonopin.

Nicks beat her addictions in 1993 when she embarked on a detox programme.

She has continued to work throughout the last decade, reuniting once again with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 for a global hits tour.

In 2011, Nicks teamed up with fellow singer Rod Stewart to co-headline The Heart and Soul Tour.

Good News - Absolute Classic Rock's DJ Leona Graham interviewed Stevie Nicks during Hard Rock Calling in London a few weeks ago. (Review) Stevie Nicks 'In Your Dreams' "None of Nick’s lyrical intensity has left her, with a Nicksonian take on the whole vampire thing on Moonlight, A Vampire’s Dream"

Stevie Nicks – In Your Dreams
Reviews, By Augustus, 7th July, 2011
Samesame.com.au

In Your Dreams is only Stevie Nick’s seventh solo studio album since the release of her highly successful solo debut, Bella Donna, in 1981. Then, Nicks had an enigmatic presence and somewhat ethereal style. She produced simultaneously haunting, fragile and hard-hitting melodies, with lyrics that often seemed more stream-of-consciousness than the musings of your everyday rock or pop artist.

Steve Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, writing one of my all-time favourite lyrics on the track Dreams, which she performed on their 1977 album Rumours: players only love you when they’re playin’. It’s deceptively simple, but the more you think about it, the more you think about it.

This has been a difficult review to write... Continue to the full review

Stevie Nicks tells Helen Brown about her latest album – and the joys of being part of a double act.

Stevie Nicks tells Helen Brown about her latest album – and the joys of being part of a double act.

By Helen Brown
The Telegraph

When Stevie Nicks asked her 15-year-old god-daughter to take part in her new music video – “playing me at 30, around the time I joined Fleetwood Mac” – the girl asked for a little direction. “So I told her to twirl, talk to yourself, make like you’re crazy, be me,” she says. “We put her in my vintage, evergreen tie-dye with my top hat. Oh, she looked so beautiful. My girlfriends laughed when we saw the dress. Were we ever that small? We must have been!”.....

Sweet Dreams - Stevie Nicks Interview

Back after a Decade

Stevie Nicks is back after a a decade - and it’s all thanks to Dave Stewart.

It’s been ten years since Stevie Nicks released a solo record. Now sixty-three, it seemed her fans would have to be content with seeing her on stage performing Fleetwood Mac hits.

But energised by a new creative partnership with ex-Eurythmic Dave Stewart, she’s put Fleetwood Mac on hold (temporarily) and says making ‘In Your Dreams’ was the best year of her life.

The rest of the abbreviated interview can be found on the Clash website.
The full version of this interview appears in the next issue of Clash Magazine, in shops 7th July 2011.

Also, on newstands now is The Word magazine that features an interview with Stevie Nicks.  The Word is a UK published magazine.

The August, 2011 issue of MoJo Music Magazine has a two page spread on "How To Buy Fleetwood Mac" The cover features Paul McCartney.

Hey Radio... "For What It's Worth" Is Worth Playing!

A clear sign that the 2nd single from the Stevie Nicks album 'In Your Dreams' has been issued to radio is the 4 ebay auctions currently running selling the 2 track promo discs.  These promo only discs are issued to radio stations and DJ's for consideration on their playlists... 'For What It's Worth' hopefully will start receiving some airplay across the USA. The 4 listings on ebay all include the album cut at 4:31 and an edit at 4:03, which shaves off 28 seconds from the album version. I'm curious as to what they shaved off. Possibly sacrificed is a large chunk of the intro where up to the point of the bell ringing is about 18 seconds.

I really hope radio gives this great track a chance!... It's right up there along the lines of Landslide as far as I'm concerned...A timeless piece of music.
