Stevie Nicks: Like a great wine she get's better with age - Daily Express Weekend

Daily Express Weekend July 23, 2011

Lindsey Buckingham Adds A November Date + Stevie Nicks Adds an Opening Act

Lindsey Buckingham extended his tour dates into November by adding a date on November 12th in Salina, Kansas at the Stiefel Theatre. On sale dates haven't been announced yet. They will go on sale via Ticketmaster with ticket prices ranging from $39 - $47.

Stevie mentioned in various interviews that Lindsey was touring until Christmas, and with this November date, it looks like we can see the month of November start to fill up!  Hey Lindsey... How about Providence!

Stevie Nicks has approached Michael Grimm to be her opening act on the North American portion of her In Your Dreams Tour running August 9th through September 4th. Lots of buzz going on at Michaels Facebook page with this announcement. Final dates that Michael will appear haven't been determined yet... More to come.  Michael Grimm was the winner on the 5th season of America's Got Talent.

Tickets for both Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks can be found on either Ticketmaster or Live Nation.

Tours are hot again (Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks Make Top 10)

Big acts mean bigger numbers

Ticket sales for concerts are up even though prices are higher With acts like U2, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga leading the way, the concert touring business is enjoying a healthy comeback this year after struggling in 2010.

In the first six months of 2011, total grosses for the top 100 North American tours was $ 1.12 billion. That’s up $ 157 million or 16.2% over the same period last year, according to Pollstar, which tracks the live music industry. The total number of tickets sold was 16.7 million, a 5.3% increase, but surprisingly, the average ticket price was up 10.2%, or $ 6.25, to a record $ 67.02.

Through the end of June, U2’ s 360 tour was the runaway top moneymaker, raking in $ 85.8 million and selling 979,000 tickets to 14 North American stadium shows with an average gross of $ 7.8 million.

Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni says artists and promoters have helped the upturn by taking a more conservative approach in terms of venue size, frequency of return to certain markets and number of markets played. He says the higher prices weren’t expected coming off a year with lower grosses and ticket sales. But many of this year’s shows offer audiences good value for their dollars.

" What’s happening is that some artists are combining with a stronger support act, almost a co-bill situation,” Bongiovanni says, pointing to package tours such as Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, and George Strait, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack.

Stevie Nicks performed her most recent single "For What It's Worth"

Stevie Nicks Credits Iconic Onstage Looks To Weight Gain

Lady Gaga may have cornered the meat dress market and Rihanna may have a patent on her whips and chains costumes but when it comes to creating an on-stage persona, these girls take a backseat to the original fashion forward performer -- Stevie Nicks.

“It was very conscious to have a look,” Nicks tells me. “I went out in 1973 with Fleetwood Mac and just went out and packed a suitcase with my street clothes. We stayed at very nice hotels and I immediately gained 10 lbs. I was horrified every single day trying to put together some kind of an acceptable outfit to wear on stage. So when I got home from that tour I met with a designer and said I need a uniform, I need something that is fantastic that I can wear. I need two skirts, two leotards, two pairs of fantastic boots, a little English riding jacket [and] a long black chiffon scarf. I need like the Donna Karen’s seven pieces. And she made it.”

Soon Nicks' style wasn't only making its appearance onstage but on the streets across the country -- fans and non-fans alike wanted a piece of her gothic Bohemian look.

“I loved seeing people dressed like me because I thought this is just like creating a song,” Nicks laughs. “Creating this outfit is like creating a song. Yesterday I spent all day at the very same designer designing 17 new outfits. I’m still, to this day, putting together really great little things. I’m single handedly bringing back the Victorian ball gown.”

Earlier this month Nicks celebrated her seventh solo album, "In Your Dreams," and is planning on a Fall tour. "In Your Dreams" has debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 52,000 copies in its first week.

“When I write in my journal, as opposed to going back and reading what I wrote last night or a week ago, I tend to say better to just keep going than spend your time reading what you already wrote,” Nicks tells me. “I don’t want to be inspired by what I already wrote. I don’t want to rewrite "Edge Of Seventeen" and I also don’t listen to other music either especially when I’m getting ready to do a record. I don’t want to subconsciously take something from someone else. I want it to be totally from me. So I pretty much live in an instrumental world. If I’m listening to music when I’m not working I’m listening to instrumental music.”

And not looking back seems to be working for the singer -- according to the 63-year-old, she only gets better with age.

“I think this is really my best album and I say that as humbly as possible," Nicks says. "But I believe that."

Stevie Nicks to Join Jeff Bridges and John Fogerty at American Thunder Music Festival at Legendary Sturgis, Buffalo Chip August 11, 2011

All-Star Concert Will Benefit the Bob Woodruff Foundation, in Celebration of the Men and Women of the United States Military and Their Families

STURGIS, SD--(Marketwire - Jul 19, 2011) - The first annual American Thunder Music Festival has added Stevie Nicks to the lineup that already includes John Fogerty. The all-star concert is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 11th, at the Legendary Buffalo Chip.

"I am honored to join Jeff Bridges for this show in support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. I feel proud to show my love for returning vets and their families and to honor their bravery," commented Nicks -- a longtime supporter of returning vets. Nicks' new CD, "In Your Dreams," includes the poignant, Nicks penned original song "Soldiers Angel" which she was inspired to write following her many visits to Walter Reed Hospital and Bethesda Medical Center. Nicks will be performing the song at the Festival and it is sure to be one of many highlights of this historic show.

"Stevie's support for the men and women who serve is almost as legendary as her voice," said Bridges. "Her songs and distinctive voice have become part of the very fabric of America."

"With so many service men and women returning from the battle field, it's critical that we honor their service by helping them return to their local communities," said Bob Woodruff, ABC News Anchor, and Co-Founder of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. "Because there are people like Jeff Bridges, John Fogerty and Stevie Nicks, who lend their distinctive voices to this cause, I have no doubt our fellow Americans will help us say 'thank you' to those who serve."

"Stevie Nicks' song 'Soldiers Angel' is the most beautiful song I've ever heard about wounded warriors and those who comfort them," said David Clark, founder of American Thunder. "We're all honored to have her participate."

Funds raised at American Thunder will benefit the Bob Woodruff Foundation that invests in programs that connect troops to the services they need, including physical rehabilitation and counseling, education, employment and financial assistance, as well as help with larger issues like homelessness and suicide.
