Technically Speaking. Cubby Colby Talks About Mixing Quintessential Artist Lindsey Buckingham

Modern Technology With Old School Form For Lindsey Buckingham Concert Tour Cubby Colby talks about mixing a quintessential artist of this generation
Clair crew chief Rich Schoenadel (left) with
Cubby Colby prior to a Buckingham show

Life is a process of continual learning, from cradle to grave. Approach it any differently, and it stops.

This is certainly the mantra of Rob “Cubby” Colby, an industry vet with so much listed on his professional resume that it’s an order of magnitude easier to list who he hasn’t worked for as opposed to who he has.

Indeed, from Kansas to Prince and among a legion of others in between, countless artists have relied on Colby to manage either their monitor needs, those of the house, or both.

This group now also includes Lindsey Buckingham, whose just-concluded Seeds We Sow tour gained the benefit of Colby’s talents out front.

Critically hailed for his solo work as well as that with Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham is a quintessential voice of his generation, having earned a place in the pantheon of 20th century postwar performers as a guitarist, singer, composer, and producer.

Lindsey Buckingham's Guitarist Neale Heywood Apologizes Re: Cancelled UK Tour

"Hi Folks,
Neale Heywood here, I'm the lucky guy that gets to play guitar with Lindsey Buckingham.

It's now the middle of January 2012 and i'm finally coming out of the fog and shock of a painful and humbling stay in hospital over the Xmas period.

I want to take this opportunity to hopefully reach any of the disappointed LB fans that I know are out there and personally let them know, if I can, just how sorry I am to have been the reason for the man not coming over to England."

Check out his full post over in the
Lindsey Buckingham forum at The Ledge.

I'm happy Neale said something himself... Not that it makes things any better for those that were looking forward to the December shows, but it's really nice that he acknowledged the fans disappointment... I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to Neale.... I hope he'll be okay!  and I hope that for those that have booked travel plans, that you can change them.

December 4th:
Update on Neale's situation - From someone that's close to him:
Neale has been going through some serious trouble with his back on nearly the entire SWS tour, and is scheduled for surgery at the end of the month to take care of this issue. Thank you to all of you who have wished him well, and who have been compassionate and understanding of the circumstances. Lindsey's band members are not replaceable, they are his family and have become so over the decades. It's not as easy as calling someone else, rehearsing for a while and getting that same comfort level as the well-oiled machine that they already have. Let's all come together and accept the postponement, however disappointed we may be, and extend positive vibes to the guy who needs it. Thanks!
    Tour Dates:
  • Dec. 08: Birmingham (Symphony Hall)
  • Dec. 09: Salford (The Lowry)
  • Dec. 11: Leeds (02 Academy)
  • Dec. 12: Edinburgh (Usher Hall)
  • Dec. 13: Gateshead (The Sage Gateshead)
  • Dec. 15: Dublin, Ireland (Olympia Theatre)
  • Dec. 16: Belfast, Ireland (Waterfront Hall Auditorium)
  • Dec. 18: Southampton (Southampton Guildhall)
  • Dec. 19: London (Palladium)

Review/Photos: Lindsey Buckingham Salamanca, NY 11/5/11

Lindsey Buckingham @ Seneca Allegany Events Center (Inside the Seneca Allegany Casino) Salamanca, NY November 5, 2011

Written by Gus Griesinger

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham brought his solo act to the Seneca Allegany Casino last Saturday night. Mostly known for his plucking style of guitar playing, Lindsey played songs from his latest solo effort “Seeds We Sow,” in addition to a slue of Fleetwood Mac covers.

The casino allowed the first couple of rows to fill in the front, as per the request of Lindsey. He surely played off the crowd and enjoyed every ounce of adulation and gave it back as well. Buckingham enjoyed the spotlight on the first four tracks of the evening, and was later joined by his band to complete the set.
However, he did finish the show in earlier fashion, as he performed the last song of the evening, “Seeds We Sow,” under a single spotlight once again.

Lindsey talked about why he is choosing to play these small shows with just his acoustic and electric guitars. His thoughts conveyed that it takes him back to his days as a kid, learning on the acoustic and just enjoying the simplicity of that. He also referred to Fleetwood Mac as the “big machine” and his band as the “little machine.”

Lindsey would make it to the edge of the stage and hold his guitar while letting the fans strum some chords during the Fleetwood Mac classic, “Go Your Own Way.” “Big Love” was an intense masterpiece and one of the evening’s highlights.  The other highlight was the song “Stars are Crazy,” as his solo during it was simply jaw dropping. In fact, he played 5 other new songs off of “Seeds We Sow.” Buckingham offered a great mix of song selections and the new material seemed very well received.

Lindsey Buckingham pulls out "Rock Away Blind" last night at 92Y

Lindsey Buckingham sat down last night with Rollingstone Contributing Editor Anthony DeCurtis for a Q&A at 92Y in New York City.  He talked about everything from Seeds We Sow, Fleetwood Mac getting back together in 2012, his relationship with Stevie Nicks now, The Buckingham Nicks possibility, family - with the highlight of the night being an acoustic performance of 3 songs, Big Love, I Am Waiting and the never before played live "Rock Away Blind".  Oh boy would I have loved to have heard Rock Away Blind!!

Lindsey also took audience questions and did a CD signing afterwards.

Reading the review below and hearing fan reports from the night - it sounds like it was a pretty amazing night for those that attended.

Review: A Conversation With Lindsey Buckingham at 92Y, NYC

By: Geoffrey Dicker

Some people will always remember the 5th of November.  I’ll always remember the 4th of November, 2011.  It’s the day that I met one of my musical gods – Lindsey Buckingham.  The 92Y in New York presented an hour and a half program called “A Conversation with Lindsey Buckingham,” and it was a die-hard fan’s dream come true.  He was interviewed by Anthony DeCurtis, who is obviously a fan of Lindsey’s music, so the discussion was relaxed, open, honest and it really felt like eavesdropping into the mind of one of the biggest musical geniuses of my lifetime.  So many questions I’ve been dying to know the answers to were answered as Lindsey Buckingham talked about everything from his love for the Brian Jones era of the Rolling Stones to the creative genius and madness of Brian Wilson to the changes of the marketability of music, some of his current favorites (including Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Dirty Projectors), his kids listening to the music of Katy Perry to getting to and being in a place where his life is totally enriched by being a family man – which wasn’t always the case in the “glory days” of Fleetwood Mac.  He was even asked what he would have done if Fleetwood Mac didn’t happen and though Lindsey found the question to be interesting, he said it was too hard to speculate but he also reiterated the magic event of himself and Stevie Nicks getting the opportunity to become members of Fleetwood Mac and how it changed the direction their lives took.
