AUDIO: Stevie Nicks indicates Fleetwood Mac Tour Rehearsals begin end of Summer, or do they?

Nicky Campbell from BBC 5 Live Breakfast spoke with Stevie Nicks on the Red Carpet at Vanity Fairs Oscar Party on Sunday night. Stevie revealed that Fleetwood Mac will not be playing Glastonbury this year (no surprise), but said one day it'll happen. She also said that tour rehearsals for Fleetwood Mac possibly begin at the end of Summer... Then she almost back tracks a bit as if she's giving away too much information.

My prediction - if they're starting record this month and rehearse by the end of summer - they will record, tour, and then finish the record or the record will be done at that point and will just need to be mixed. I think the band's best recording sessions have happened when they don't spend a year plus recording.

End of the summer? So they're going on a fall tour through Christmas? Strange. I wanted FM to do amphitheatre shows - nothing like seeing them with the stars out and a few thousand people on the lawn. That's how I saw Stevie on her Gold Dust Tour in 2005 and it was magical with the moon and stars out around her.

She has a few months before rehearsals begin. Has anyone heard what Chris or Lindsey or Mick have been up to since the conclusion of the tour last year?

If each songwriter submitted 3 or 4 songs, Lindsey would take 18 months producing them and then Christine will be 72 or 73. I mean how long can this go on? I wish forever, but that's not likely. My point is, I really doubt they'll put out a new full length cd. Maybe another EP.

Perhaps Lindsey needs to stop producing the band and let someone with ideas fresh to Fleetwood Mac produce the band. I enjoy Lindsey as a producer but a little change never hurt anyone.

Agree with MplsMike: recording from now through the summer, rehearsals late summer, tour in the fall. Album out probably some time during the tour, especially if the tour goes on into 2015.

Jimmy Iovine said at the Vanity Fair Oscar party that "80% of people don't buy music anymore - especially with Soundcloud and Spotify and Youtube around." And he's the president of Interscope Records!!

Only a handful of artists still SELL music - Adele, Lana Del Rey, Eminem - even Cher's last outing only sold 300,000 copies.

Fleetwood Mac has nothing left to prove to anyone. I say put out 6 or 7 new songs, go on tour, and then wrap it up. That way their artistic integrity goes out on the highest note possible. They will not sell a million units of music - "SYW" hasn't even sold a million units and it's been out for 11 years. I really want Stevie to make a new solo record but she's no spring chicken and we can't expect her to all of a sudden feel the inspiration to make an entire new album when she's in her 70s.

Sad to say, but this band can't go on forever. They've given us almost 50 years of music - it's time for them to get to do whatever they want to do now.

chris and Lindsey said they already have there songs done it just stevie getting a few done so I think the hardest part is done its just getting everyone on the songs doing there thing. I think it could be done by summers end .I think it will take about 6 weeks for rehearsals to get chris's chemistry back and maybe thrown in a few new songs in there too. I was told the US tour threw the fall and then some places around the world threw the winter and spring and back to the states next summer.

Selling massive amounts of albums, going gold and platinum is no longer the benchmark for success - nobody, but a select few are selling on the scale of yesterday and even those numbers aren't that great in comparison to the popularity of the artist... The live show is where the money is made and the success is gained.

While I would love a full-length album (and I really, really, REALLY hope that happens), I would be equally happy with a couple of EPs of six or seven songs each. I think the attitude to have is, whatever new music we get we have to take and be happy with, however long they tour, we have to be happy with it.

Fleetwood Mac's official Instagram account administrator just responded to a question I asked regarding the new album. They said: "Fleetwood Mac is due in the studio this month".

This indicates to me that MplsMike's predictions are correct. Album gets finished/worked on from this month - Lindsey & Chris' songs are already either almost complete or worked on. Now for Stevie's songs, then they'll do harmonies and other vocal works/mixing. The album (I'd say) will come out before, or in conjunction with the world tour.

Fleetwood Mac doesn't have an official instagram account

I'm getting nervous. Why do I detect that Stevie's the straggler here? Is she intimidated by the prospect of contributing 3-4 songs that make the grade in the stratospheric Fleetwood Mac world of expectations? She's being vague and that's worrisome. I don't want a greatest hits tour that's THE DANCE 17 years on. Please let this be a different chapter and a new album. I don't need to be lectured about the state of the music industry and the age of the players. Making albums is what Fleetwood Mac does. I hope that Fleetwood and the McVies remember that from 1971-74 they released an album each year, with 2 in 1973 alone!!!!

I don't know where Stevie's at here - please don't lets this be another version of TANGO, as much as I love that record. Why isn't she properly excited? Why is she blabbing on about writing for GAME OF THRONES?

They need to hunker down in the studio and emerge out of it after they know they've made magic and struck gold. I think the Lindsey/Christine dynamic is going to have many surprises and create lots of fabulous music. Everyone talks of Lindsey/Stevie but just listen to the demo of HOLE ME to understand just how far Lindsey pushed Christine's songs into another world - and how enthusiastically she went for it.

Stevie, on the other hand, bitches about Lindsey's brilliant work for her on SAY YOU WILL. I don't understand it and I don't like it. He created a tough, crisp, stripped down sound that made them sound modern, yet she seems to resent it. Stevie likes to be indulged and Lindsay doesn't indulge her. But that's good for her.

Let's see how this progresses - get into a studio frame of mind please....

It will all come around....

Ya here it is march we had heard no word on when the new album will start. I am getting a little nervous too. I feel the same vive from stevie, she seems a little non sealant about this. If she is upset maybe that Dave Stewart can't be apart of this producing to Fleetwood mac album. Lindsey is not going let that happen. This is Fleetwood mac and not a solo project, Stevie as much as I love her I want one more Fleetwood mac album in my lifetijme and I even do not want Dave Stewert producing, Lindsey has done beautiful things with Stevies music and he does not need Dave.

Lindsey makes sure that Stevie's work doesn't outshine his....that's the problem with Lindsey producing the new album. He's very combative and doesn't really want to listen to Stevie's input and that has to be frustrating. Dave Stewart at least listened to her and told her, if she didn't like it, they wouldn't use it. That's why In Your Dreams is such an outstanding album.

Not saying Dave did not do a great job, I love In your dreams its one of her best with belladonna and the wild heart. I am just say that Lindsey will not go for Dave being apart of Fleetwood mac. No Lindsey helped with some of Stevie's biggest hits Rhiannon,Dreams,Gypsy,GDW Landslide, Seven Wonders,Sara and Throwndown a great SYW song , Which I ithink that is the best song off that album. SYW came out pretty good its an underrated album. Just saying it could be why, not saying it did not do great (IYD). Yes I think Lindsey should let Stevie in on what going to be done with her songs too.I don't know about holding back on her songs so his comes out better hers songs has done pretty well over the yrs.

IYD flew straight out of Stevie's heart and onto store shelves. SYW suffered so hard because it came out when physical music was dying and the world was converting to digital.

MplsMike said...

We're all speculating, but the truth is we don't know. I think after IYD Stevie would refuse to participate in ANY studio collaboration - including Fleetwood Mac - if she wasn't allowed considerable input on how her songs are produced. Obviously she's become a lot more savvy at knowing how her songs should sound, she and Lindsey clearly have a better working relationship than ever before post-break up, and I think at this point Lindsey and Chris would EXPECT Stevie to take a more active role in the production.

Brian said...

Thats why they don't need Dave or anyone else. The 5 of them need to bunker down like someone posted and getter done. It will come out beautiful like always make it about just them after all this is more than likely their last album. It should be about the 5 of them only period!!! cherish these last few years together. I mean look at what John's is going through, there the wake up call !

Stevie's comments about Dave possibly producing are old ... and just because she said them doesn't mean she (or Dave for that matter) would give it serious consideration. The return of Christine McVie changes the dynamic Fleetwood Mac has known since 1998. I will state - and I don't think it should be nor do I want it to be Dave Stewart - I think some outside production would be great. Lindsey is a tremendously fabulous producer, but left to his own devices is too meticulous. SYW was a great album, very modern ... but it was also overproduced in a lot of places. Compare the demo version (which is out on YouTube) of "Smile At You." The finished product from SYW had ZERO emotion and did nothing to highlight the qualities of the voice Stevie currently possesses. I enjoyed his work with Mitchell Frum. Perhaps if Lindsey only co-produced while Christine and Stevie took a more active approach ... I'm just saying ... even in the "old days" they had Ken Callait and Richard Dashut to ground Lindsey.
