Apple Original Films unveils title and release date for first-ever fully authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary, “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain”

Five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award winner Frank Marshall directs the film, which is set to premiere on Friday, January 29, 2027

For the first time ever, Fleetwood Mac is telling their story in their own words in Apple Original Films’ fully authorized documentary “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain,” which will make its global debut on Apple TV on Friday, January 29, 2027. Directed by five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award winner Frank Marshall and produced by the award-winning The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures, the documentary offers fans a definitive and unprecedented look at Fleetwood Mac’s story, bringing together the voices, memories and perspectives of Grammy Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

The film’s title reflects the profound significance of Fleetwood Mac’s hit “The Chain,” which embodies a family forged by a shared passion and, notably, is the only song on their album “Rumours” credited to all five members. The song perfectly captures the complicated yet enduring bond at the heart of Fleetwood Mac, and its iconic lyrics became a powerful motif for the respect and connection that persisted through the tumultuous odyssey of the band’s rise to superstardom. The film’s premiere coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of the Grammy Award-winning album “Rumours.”

Following their fortuitous meeting in 1974, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reflect on their uncompromising 50-plus-year history, from their record-breaking recordings and tours — including never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews — through to today. The film explores how the band’s trials and tribulations, personal resilience and musical dexterity combined to create songs that have stood the test of time and are enduring masterpieces. It takes fans through the highs and lows of their brilliant career, illuminating the exceptional ingredients each member brought to the band’s uncommon alchemy — a musical union that sold more than 220 million records worldwide. The documentary explores what allowed this combination of artists to create singular musical work again and again, and what drew them back together and held them there when every possible pressure, both outside and inside the band, threatened to blow them apart.

Stevie Nicks Brings Fairy Energy in a Flower Crown at the New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala

She looked straight out of a storybook

Stevie Nicks may be known for her wonderfully witchy energy on stage, but she decided to go full fairy mode for the New York City Ballet’s fall fashion gala at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center on Thursday evening.

The former Fleetwood Mac member made a rare public appearance for the gala, where she looked like a character straight out of a children’s storybook. Her look centered around a romantic pink dress with a tiered skirt and layers of tulle decorated with swirling embroidery and rows of ruffles. Up top, the bubblegum base was covered with a more opaque mauve top layer, which featured bustier-style panels and shimmering gold stitching, the kind you might find on a Grimms’ Fairy Tales book spine.

Nicks paired the design with a set of sandy platform heels in suede, and a chain pendant necklace with a large opal gemstone hanging from it. Each of her arms was stacked with beaded friendship bracelets (a touch fellow singer-songwriter Taylor Swift would certainly approve of), and she sported dangly gold earrings that swirled down to her nape.

However, the most playful touch was the large flower crown resting on Nicks’s head, which appeared to be made of fresh flowers in pink, white, and green.

On the red carpet, other stars brought a bit femininity and fantasy too, whether it was Sarah Jessica Parker in her sheer Simone Rocha bubble dress with pink silk ribbons running down it like laces, or Julia Fox in her velvet black tux with large ruffles and a frilly white blouse layered underneath.

Anywhere she goes, Nicks just knows how to cast a particular spell.

Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" will be featured in Practical Magic 2 Film

On Wednesday, September 2, Rolling Stone confirmed that Stevie Nicks’ classic track “Landslide” will be featured in the upcoming film. This announcement comes just two days after Nicks joined Olivia Rodrigo on stage to perform the iconic 1975 Fleetwood Mac ballad together at Rodrigo’s inaugural charity festival in Irvine, California.

No word yet on whether it'll be on the soundtrack or if this is the original audio, a new vocal or if there are more contributions to the soundtrack.

You'll recall that, with the first film, Stevie had two tracks featured on the soundtrack, a new recording of "Crystal" plus "If You Ever Did Believe".

After the performance, Nicks offered heartfelt praise for Rodrigo and what she had accomplished in bringing Daisy Chain Fields to life.

"And I'm somewhat awestruck that she could do all this because it's so hard, you have no idea, putting something together with all these people, everything. Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits Deluxe Edition Reaches New Billboard Peak

FLEETWOOD MAC’S ‘GREATEST HITS’ REACHES EVEN GREATER HEIGHTS, HITTING NEW PEAK ON ALBUM CHARTS

After its expanded reissue, the best-of bounds to new highs on multiple charts.

Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits, first released in 1988, reaches the top 10 on Billboard’s 35-year-old Top Album Sales chart for the first time coming in at No. 10, following its expanded reissue.

The set re-enters the Aug. 15-dated chart at No. 10, besting its previous high of No. 13 (set in 2016), after the album was bolstered with seven additional hits and issued digitally and on multiple physical formats.

Greatest Hits also soars 69-13 on the overall Billboard 200, surpassing its peak of No. 14, set in 1989. The collection also sees a new peak of No. 5 on the Vinyl Albums chart (a re-entry, besting its peak of No. 7, first reached in 2019), vaults 18-4 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums, rises 14-3 on Top Rock Albums (matching its peak, reached in March) and re-enters the Indie Store Album Sales chart at No. 6.

The standard version of Greatest Hits remains a 16-song edition, and the new deluxe edition adds seven further hits. The deluxe set was released via digital download services and streamers on June 10, and physical formats followed on July 31. The deluxe package bowed across six double-vinyl variants and a two-CD offering.

In the tracking week ending Aug. 6, Greatest Hits sold nearly 6,000 copies in the United States, according to Luminate — a gain of 286% as compared to its sales in the previous week.

The albums also reached No. 11 on the Canadian Top 100 Albums chart.

Lindsey Buckingham Reveals He and Ex Stevie Nicks Talk "All the Time" After Years-Long Rift

Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham told E! News at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event how a special project healed the band’s rifts, including bringing him and Stevie Nicks to a better spot.

And 50 years after Fleetwood Mac released its iconic Rumours album, Lindsey Buckingham detailed how the band—including members Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie—has been able to bury the many hatchets that have been raised over the years thanks to a special project.

“Fleetwood Mac has been working on a documentary,” he told E! News at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event Aug. 6, referring to Apple TV’s upcoming 2027 documentary. “I think the process of making that has been a very circular healing process for all of us.”

And while Buckingham was reticent to speculate as to whether the group’s newfound harmony might lead to more touring together in the future, he said “the most important thing” is the peace they’ve achieved.

“Because we had left things in 2019, maybe as far as I was concerned, not in a very good place for all the wrong reasons,” he admitted of the group’s world tour before the pandemic. “No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out.”

That healing journey also involved himself and Nicks, whose romantic relationship came to a tumultuous end while recording Rumors, leading to years-long fractures in the decades since.

As Buckingham noted, “Stevie and I are talking all the time now.”

In fact, he and Nicks released a remastered version of their 1973 studio album Buckingham Nicks—which they released before joining the iconic group—in 2025. However, much like the prospect of touring, Buckingham remained coy over rumors of future collaborations—lest he incandescently tell any sweet little lies.

“Next year should be a pretty interesting year,” he teased, “because I think quite a few things will reveal themselves.”

Although he hasn’t stopped thinking about tomorrow, he is more than happy to also take a look back, including to reflect on is the enduring legacy of Fleetwood Mac, which also featured late band member Christina McVie, and his gratitude for it.

“There are groups that are quite popular in the moment, and maybe 10 years later, everyone's kind of going, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,’” he admitted. “Fleetwood Mac was not one of those groups, luckily.”

For proof, he has to look no further than seeing how current artists, such as Sombr, are still engaging with their material.

“About three or four months ago, I got a reach out from Sombr wanting me to know how much of an influence I'd been on him,” Buckingham said of the 21-year-old, who was one of Variety’s honorees. “So, of course I was very happy to be involved in this tonight for that reason, and also because that's what music is all about. It's about passing the torch.”

Because as children get older, so, too, do the members of Fleetwood Mac.

“I don't think you really ever know whether you have done your job properly as a band member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist, without the equation of time,” Buckingham added. “Because you've got to wait for time to intervene and to find out whether younger people are going to take to what you've done, and at that point you can say you've done your job properly.”

And while Buckingham, Nicks and the other band members have climbed a mountain and turned their drama around, there’s a lot of history there.

Lindsey Buckingham says that looking back on the past has helped him move forward with his Fleetwood Mac bandmates — particularly Stevie Nicks.

In an interview with E! News published Thursday (Aug. 6), the guitarist explained that he and the other members of the iconic rock group have found that their collective work on executing an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary has been “a very circular healing process for all of us.”

“Because we had left things in 2019, maybe as far as I was concerned, not in a very good place for all the wrong reasons,” he continued, referencing the band’s rift a few years ago that led to him being temporarily fired from the lineup. “No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out.”

Buckingham’s relationship with Nicks especially has been famously fraught over the decades, but according to him, “Stevie and I are talking all the time now.”

The interview — which took place at Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles — comes nearly two years after Apple announced production on a definitive Fleetwood Mac documentary directed by Frank Marshall, featuring rare insights from the surviving band members themselves. A release date has not yet been announced, but the project is expected to arrive in 2027.

Last year, Buckingham and Nicks teamed up to re-release their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, which reached No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart in September. The collaboration between the pair showed fans that they’ve come a long way since 2018, when Fleetwood Mac announced that it had parted ways with Buckingham ahead of the band’s tour that year. Nicks was reportedly the main decision-maker on that front after Buckingham supposedly sought to delay the trek so that he could promote his solo work first, with tensions reaching a boiling point that January as the two musicians butted heads over their appearance at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala honoring them — less than a week after which Buckingham was fired.

He later sued Fleetwood Mac for allegedly booting him from the tour without just cause and costing him millions in earnings, but the group settled in December 2018 — and now, it appears to be water under the bridge.

“Next year should be a pretty interesting year,” Buckingham added to E!, teasing future projects with his bandmates. “I think quite a few things will reveal themselves.”

Mick Fleetwood Signs Album Deal with Warner Records

Mick Fleetwood signs album deal with Warner Records. Mick has been working on a solo album for the last year or so and will likely release the results in 2027 either prior or after the reelase of the Fleetwood Mac documentary which is expected in February, 2027. Both Lindsey and Stevie also have albums in the works. Lindsey’s is complete and he’s stated it’ll be release in the spring of 2027. Stevie no word yet.

The festival will feature performances from Rodrigo alongside Chappell Roan, Doechii, Katseye, Mitski, the Breeders, Die Spitz, Bikini Kill, Eli, Garbage, Quiet Light, Rachel Chinouriri and Not for Radio. Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits Deluxe Edition Set for July Release

 

July 31st Fleetwood Mac will release a Deluxe Edition of their multi-platinum Greatest Hits collection on 2LP, 2CD and streaming. The new compilation features 10 more classics including "Landslide," "The Chain," "Silver Springs (Live)," "Big Love" and "You Make Loving Fun". Rhino.com has a Ultra Clear Vinyl Exclusive available for pre-order and Urban Outfitters has the purple splatter 2LP collection available for pre-order.  Walmart has the Sea Blue Vinyl Exclusive. The Translusent White Vinyl is a Brick and Mortar / Indie Retail Exclusive.  The Translusent Light Blue Vinyl is a Barnes and Noble Exclusive. Full track listing below.
