Tour Stats Update: Fleetwood Mac On With The Show Tour

Published Tour Stats

Fleetwood Mac leads the slate of touring artists in the weekly tally of Hot Tours (see list, below) based on box office revenue from its On With the Show tour that launched in September, 2014. During the latest tracking period, three arenas reported $3.8 million in ticket sales from the veteran rock band's winter trek through markets in the U.S. and Canada.

A Jan. 20 sellout at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. produced the top gross among the three venues with $1.4 million in revenue from 10,204 sold seats. The number of tickets sold was 172 more than that in Montreal two weeks later at the Bell Centre on Feb. 5, generating sales just over $1 million. Finally, with ticket prices ranging from $125 to $195, the group's Feb. 7 concert at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. produced a $1.3 million take from 7,542 sold tickets.

The On With the Show tour will continue its North American schedule of more than 80 concerts through April 14, wrapping in the Los Angeles market at the Forum in Inglewood. A six-week European trek will follow beginning with a two-night stand at London's O2 Arena on May 27.

Fleetwood Mac are raking in the dough!

With only 6 shows reported so far to Billboard's Boxscore it's clear that the On With The Show Tour will be massive when all is said and done in terms of overall gross ticket sales and attendance. Fleetwood Mac will surely land in the top 10 grossing tours of the latter half of 2014.

If you calculate the 29 shows they've performed so far by the average gross they've been achieving so far, except bringing it down to 1.6 million average per show to factor in the smaller grosses in the smaller cities they've been to, this puts the tour at between 40-50 million so far. The full 40 dates in 2014 at the same average gives you about 65 million.  Huge numbers!

Music's Top 40 Money Makers 2014: The Rich List Fleetwood Mac No.10

Fleetwood Mac
2013 Earnings: $19,123,101.98
Billboard

As befits this classic rock mainstay, the bulk of Fleetwood Mac’s earnings came from its 2013 world tour, which covered 34 cities and take-home pay of $17.4 million. The trek’s high point included three nights at London’s O2 Arena. There, Christine McVie, 70, joined the band for the final two shows to perform “Don’t Stop” — a prelude to her coming back full-time for 2014’s Reunion Tour (that trek was potentially sidetracked due to the recent cancer diagnosis of John McVie, 68). The band also released its first new studio material in a decade, "Extended Play." It reached No. 48 on the Billboard 200.

Fleetwood Mac top this weeks @billboard Current Boxscore for Oct 1st Manchester, UK show

Fleetwood Mac's one night stand October 1, 2013 in Manchester, UK sits atop this week's Current Boxscore Top 130 listing of the top grossing shows reported to Billboard with gross ticket sales in excess of just over $2 million dollars. This puts Manchester in the lead as the single highest grossing show of the 2013 world tour - based on tour stats reported to Boxscore and Billboard. The only other city to gross higher (based on reported numbers) was London at $6.4 million, but that was for 3 nights.

Impressive number for one show!

Fleetwood Mac grossed nearly 100 million dollars performing 67 shows in 63 cities in 2013 landing them at No.14 on Pollstars Year End Top 20 Worldwide Tours tally.  Almost 900,000 fans from US/Canada, UK and Europe saw the band between April and December.  Pollstars full 2013 touring report will come available January 9th.

Just to compare to the last time the band toured I dug out the 2009 Year End Results from Pollstar - they ranked No.13 in the world for the Unleashed Tour grossing 84.9 million from 79 shows in 72 cities. What you have to look at is the increase in the Average Ticket Price and the Average Attendance per show for 2013 - both of which are way up, which increases your per show take.  The band did very well in 2013!

Tours are hot again (Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks Make Top 10)

Big acts mean bigger numbers

Ticket sales for concerts are up even though prices are higher With acts like U2, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga leading the way, the concert touring business is enjoying a healthy comeback this year after struggling in 2010.

In the first six months of 2011, total grosses for the top 100 North American tours was $ 1.12 billion. That’s up $ 157 million or 16.2% over the same period last year, according to Pollstar, which tracks the live music industry. The total number of tickets sold was 16.7 million, a 5.3% increase, but surprisingly, the average ticket price was up 10.2%, or $ 6.25, to a record $ 67.02.

Through the end of June, U2’ s 360 tour was the runaway top moneymaker, raking in $ 85.8 million and selling 979,000 tickets to 14 North American stadium shows with an average gross of $ 7.8 million.

Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni says artists and promoters have helped the upturn by taking a more conservative approach in terms of venue size, frequency of return to certain markets and number of markets played. He says the higher prices weren’t expected coming off a year with lower grosses and ticket sales. But many of this year’s shows offer audiences good value for their dollars.

" What’s happening is that some artists are combining with a stronger support act, almost a co-bill situation,” Bongiovanni says, pointing to package tours such as Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, and George Strait, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack.

STEVIE DOES BUDDY
Oh... And Stevie Nicks is apparently working on a track for a Buddy Holly tribute album being put together by Peter Asher to mark the 50th anniversary of his death in February, 1959. (It'll be 51 years this February... Better get crackin'!)

The quote from the article:

“I’m in the studio producing a Buddy Holly tribute album for the 50th anniversary of his death,” he says of his current project. “For the last couple of days, I’ve been in the studio with Stevie Nicks doing a track with her.”

Asher seems so nonchalant about recording with Nicks that he may as well by talking about picking up his dry cleaning, but it’s just another testament to how many music legends he knows on a first-name basis.
