Fleetwood Mac gig just Rumours

The Winnipeg Sun
By JANE STEVENSON

Turns out those reports last week of Sheryl Crow hooking up with Fleetwood Mac next year might have been a bit premature.

Crow told Sun Media yesterday that while it's something she would like to do, given her long friendship with Stevie Nicks -- which dates to when they worked together on Nicks' 2001 album, Trouble In Shangri-La -- it's still an idea that's in the early stages.

"We don't even know -- all that stuff is rumours," she said. "We are just in the middle of figuring out if we want to collaborate, and what we're going to be doing, and what that's going to look like."

Still, Crow said she's enthusiastic about the possibility. After all, she wore a "full shag" hairstyle in high school in the '70s, emulating Nicks' famous feathered 'do.

"Oh, my gosh. It would be so much fun. And I'm a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac -- the band and the people, obviously the music. And also I just love Stevie. I grew up really idolizing her, and then when I got to work with her, like, 10 years ago, I think I was stunned by how much of an artist she really is -- a fully-realized artist, not just a songwriter."

Nicks is on a spring/summer solo tour, including one Canadian date so far -- at Casino Rama north of Toronto on June 18. Crow also plans to hit the road in July and August, with Canadian dates expected in September.

Stevie Nicks looks toward summer with new solo dates

March 20, 2008 By Tjames Madison
LiveDaily Contributor

Stevie Nicks has lined up an abbreviated schedule of solo dates for late spring and early summer as talk heats up of new developments on the Fleetwood Mac front.

The veteran singer, who mounted a co-headlining tour last year with Chris Isaak, as well as her own solo trek last summer, will play two dates in April and three in June, with the first coming April 18 in Reading, PA. The Grammy-award-winning singer's latest release, "Crystal Visions ... The Very Best of Stevie Nicks," is a collection of songs from her three-decade career as a solo artist and member of Fleetwood Mac. The CD, which hit stores last Spring, features several previously unreleased live tracks and a couple of dance remixes, while the DVD comprises 13 videos with voiceover commentary by Nicks. The DVD also includes never-before-seen home video filmed during the making of Nicks' five-times platinum "Bella Donna" album, according to a press release.

Nicks' most recent solo album is 2001's "Trouble in Shangri-La" and her latest with Fleetwood Mac is 2003's "Say You Will."

Fleetwood Mac made news earlier this month when singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow told an AOL-affiliated music website that she's planning on joining the band sometime next year. It is currently unclear what role Crow will play in the band or when the group and its new collaborator would tour or record together. "We definitely have plans for collaborating in the future and we'll see what happens," Crow reportedly said. Crow essentially would replace Christine McVie, who has retired from touring, in the group.

New Live Lindsey Buckingham Tracks

Check out 3 live tracks from Lindsey's upcoming DVD/CD release on March 25th "Live At The Bass Performance Hall". Second Hand News, Go Your Own Way and Holiday Road are up to stream at his official site: Lindseybuckingham.com

I'm looking forward to this coming out for a couple of reasons. First, it's an official release, and second, there apparently is a 45 minute documentary included with the package on the making of his last cd "Under The Skin". THAT should be interesting to watch.

Crow Says She'll Sing With Fleetwood Mac

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sheryl Crow says she'll soon be singing with Fleetwood Mac, a move sure to give new life to the classic rock band, which hasn't toured in several years.

"I don't want to make any official announcements, but I will say that we definitely have plans for collaborating in the future, and we'll see what happens," Crow told the AOL music Web site Spinner.com in a story posted Thursday.

The 46-year-old singer didn't give a date, but said it could happen next year.
She's already thinking about what she'd like to perform. "I'd love to do `The Chain,' I'd love to do `Second Hand News,'" Crow said.

Crow said she looked forward to working with friend Stevie Nicks. "I think the person I learned the most hands-on from is Stevie Nicks because she allowed me not only to co-write with her but also to produce her, and she's a true artist," she said.

Crow would give the band and Nicks a boost. According to Spinner.com, Nicks had said she wouldn't continue with Fleetwood Mac without keyboardist Christine McVie, who retired from touring in 1998. McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 shortly after marrying the band's bass guitarist, John McVie.

Fleetwood Mac last toured in 2004.
Crow is currently touring after the release of her latest album, "Detours."

Phone and e-mail messages left with representatives for Fleetwood Mac and Crow were not immediately returned.

Lindsey Buckingham to Release Live DVD on March 25, 2008
(Pre-Order)

"Live at the Bass Performance Hall" Captures Electric Spirit of Singer, Songwriter, and Guitarist's First U.S. Solo Tour in 14 Years

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - February 5, 2008) - Lindsey Buckingham will release a live DVD, the first ever of his 27-year career as a solo artist, titled "Live at the Bass Performance Hall," on March 25, 2008. Shot at the Bass Performance Hall in Forth Worth, TX, on January 27th, 2007, the performance captures the innovative, tightly orchestrated minimalism that characterized the acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist's first U.S. solo tour in nearly 14 years.

The DVD finds Buckingham, joined by his three-piece band, transitioning easily on stage between his solo back catalog ("Trouble," "Go Insane," and "Holiday Road") and electrifying versions of his hits with Fleetwood Mac ("Tusk," "Second Hand News," "Go Your Own Way"). The show also features performances of six cuts from Buckingham's latest album, the intricately crafted, acoustic-guitar driven "Under The Skin," including "Not Too Late," "Show You How," and "Shut Us Down."

Buckingham's "Under the Skin" tour, which took place over 2006-2007, was enthusiastically received by critics. The New York Times praised the artist's appearance at New York's Town Hall, saying that, "the strength of Buckingham's songs, his singing and guitar playing, and his strange intensity as a performer carried the evening," while "his stamina kept the music's energy fresh and volatile." The Chicago Tribune called Buckingham "an enigmatic rock'n'roll icon" whose tour is "worth the wait."

The "Live at the Bass Performance Hall" DVD package also includes the documentary "Not Too Late" -- which consists of more than 45 minutes of exclusive, behind the scenes bonus footage shot and produced by Lindsey Buckingham himself -- as well as, an audio CD with the same track-listing as the DVD minus "Tusk."

The complete track-listing for the DVD is as follows:

Not Too Late
Trouble
Never Goin Back
Second Hand News
Castaway Dreams
It Was You
Big Love

Nicks Rocks Cal State Fullerton Fund-Raiser

Still striking as she approaches 60, this year's 'Front & Center' headliner served up a lively performance for the annual event.
By KELLI SKYE FADROSKI

Stevie Nicks is magical, gorgeous, simply mesmerizing – it's unbelievable she will celebrate her 60th birthday this year. At an age when most of her peers have retired, it's as if she's just getting started.
Nicks still looks amazing – nearly flawless porcelain skin, a fierce mane of long blonde hair and a body that still fits into those corset dresses quite nicely. Her deep, sensual voice didn't crack once Saturday night at Honda Center in Anaheim, as she belted out lyrics with ease to close Cal State Fullerton's annual "Front & Center" gala fund-raiser. She worked the crowd over with her eyes, tossing seductive glances at video cameras as she pranced around the stage, slipping into her signature twirls, slapping her tambourine and innocently playing with her flowing skirts and scarves.

Granted, ardent fans had to first endure the usual "Front & Center" salutations.

Now in its 13th year, the program has hosted a variety of talent, including sets from Chicago, Gladys Knight, Tony Bennett and Natalie Cole, interviews with Walter Cronkite and Whoopi Goldberg, speeches from Colin Powell and the late Christopher Reeve, and comedy from Bill Cosby. Before each headliner, however, there are musical skits staged by Cal State Fullerton's performing-arts students, often overly lengthy explanations about the university (now celebrating its 50th anniversary) and chatter from the event's alumnus MC, this time "Desperate Housewives" producer and creator Marc Cherry.

Curiously, once the crowd in the packed arena was patiently awaiting the Hall of Famer's entrance, the house lights would lower, then brighten again, while background music (at times blasting "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child and "That's the Way Love Goes" by Janet Jackson) would die down over and over again, each time giving false hope that Nicks would appear. Eventually the waiting paid off, of course, as Nicks materialized through a hazy fog on stage, smiling wide-eyed as she stormed into a rocked-out version of "Stand Back."

She smoothly transitioned between songs – including a playful take on Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" and a kickin' version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "I Need to Know" – while occasionally pausing for storyteller moments to give background about key tracks. Before slowing things down with "Landslide," for instance, she admitted to the crowd that the song was not about her father, but he thought it was, so she let him believe it. She dedicated the song to all of the fathers in the audience – and the crowd responded by whipping out cell phones and lighters to slowly wave in the air as she sweetly sang the lyrics, bringing some to tears.

Every three or four songs, Nicks would disappear for a few minutes for a wardrobe change, switching up from black velvet to black leather to black lace, all with assorted colored scarves. Each time she left the stage, it allowed her band time to shine – via beautiful piano transitions, orgasmic percussion battles and, as an intro to the bewitching "Gold Dust Woman," a searing guitar solo.

For her part, Nicks exuded elegance and maturity as she confidently fired through "Dreams," "If Anyone Falls in Love" and "Edge of Seventeen," despite the fact that several fans could be heard screaming out the wrong lyrics to that last one – "just like the way we love" instead of "just like the white-winged dove." But this was mostly a die-hard crowd, dozens of female admirers clad in true Stevie garb – crushed-velvet outfits, cinched corsets, flowing gypsy skirts and black gloves in leather, satin or lace.

Nicks never disappointed, and ended the evening with a bang - a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" after a final wardrobe change into a flowing white-and-black top and a chunky top hat with a giant feather sticking out of it. The song brought the crowd to its feet once more, as hordes of people rushed the stage to dance and hopefully touch Nicks as she graciously reached out and shook at least 50 hands eagerly extended in her direction.
