Mick Fleetwood spotted at The Village Recorder Studios in LA #FleetwoodMac

A tweet from Isom Innis yesterday indicating he and Cubbie Fink both from the band Foster The People, met Mick Fleetwood at Village Recorder Studios in Los Angeles yesterday (March 11th).

Two take-aways from this... 1. Mick's in L.A. and 2. Mick's in a studio.

So it begins, a new Fleetwood Mac album with all five members taking part. This is the best news in a long time. We are all so ready for some new classic Mac music with Chris, Lindsey and Stevie all singing together. And of course then a tour.

Crossing fingers ... I wonder why they didn't choose to record in Lindsey's studio to defray the costs of renting a studio ...

Is it possible they may just be mastering the tracks.. or using the space for other things that they couldn't do at Lindseys... Kinda like what Stevie did with In Your Dreams where she spent just a short while at Village Studios.

MplsMike said...

^^ ^^ That makes sense about using Village Recorders for that purpose ... the tracks are being mastered, or perhaps going through some mixing. Sooooo excited (and getting my hopes up, can't help it!).

I have no sense that all five members are in the studio. In recent interviews, Stevie has given no indication that she's the least bit interested in going into the studio with the band. I'll believe it when I hear something specific from one of the band members, or actually have the disc in my hands (or on my iPod).

I was at The Village last month hanging out with Ken Caillat whilst he sat in on a session with a new talent, Shaena Stabler (she's very good, by the way). It's great to hear that they'll likely be using The Village (be it for recording or post-recording mixes, I'm not 100% sure - likely the latter). Hopefully they'll involve Ken in SOME way.

I have just been told first-hand by an insider that Fleetwood Mac (all five members) were RECORDING at The Village today. Here are my friend's words:
"You wouldn't believe it...but Fleetwood Mac was at The Village recording today, just down the hall/stairs from us!"

Exciting things lie ahead..

Steve Stevens said...

Because they don't need to and who the hell wants to record at his house with a bunch of kids and uptight wifey. You think legends like Chris & Stevie Nicks would hang out in such an environment. Think not

Steve Stevens said...

Hope they at least record a good EP! It will be great to have Chris's influence for a change. FM definately pulled off being a great touring band even without Chris but in later years Lindsey's screaming and Stevie's uneven recordings need Chris in the mix. They are the Fleetwood Mac of Superstardom.

MplsMike said...

^^ ^^ I realize they don't "need to" I was simply expressing a curiosity. In the IYD doc Stevie pointed out one of the advantages of recording at her house as opposed to a studio every day was avoiding the $3k in daily studio fees. By the way I'm sure Lindsey's home studio isn't in his actual living quarters.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the kids are high maintenance & his wife cannot handle them wanting to talk to "daddy". There could be mant such "scenarios". I am sure they want to save money.......no matter how well the tour did, they are at or over retirement age & want to plan, etc. A lot of different issues.

Anonymous said...

I think it's probably best for them to record at a studio as opposed to Lindsey or Stevie's houses. I have the feeling that Stevie wouldn't tolerate the home-court advantage Lindsey would have at his place, and Stevie's IYD world is too airy-fairy for Lindsey. I wonder where Christine is staying in L.A....

Anonymous said...

They're recording? wahoooo Hey I know where that's at .. boy if I lived in LA they would be in trouble. Can't wait to see them again .. If I can. Crossing my finger. ;)

MplsMike said...

If they're in the same studio that they used for the Tusk record perhaps it's simply to recapture the magic. Given Joseph Gould's comments above, it would be fantastic IF they somehow involved Ken to assist in production.

Anonymous said...

If Joseph Gould's comments are true, that's great news!!

I hope Ken Caillat has nothing to do with production of the new album though. I realize many FM fans would like Rumours 2 but personally at least a bit of forward motion would be highly appreciated.

Anonymous said...

Stevie already recorded at Lindsey's house for the EP and she talked about what a great time she had there.

Anonymous said...

Yes - you're totally right that Stevie worked at Lindsey's house for the EP and enjoyed it. But that was just for a few days. Long, grueling months in a studio situation would be very different. It's funny because I just recently watched an interview in which Stevie described the recording of TUSK as a horrible experience. I remember a quote in Rolling Stone from the period in which Steve said the recording of TUSK was "like being held hostage in Iran" with Lindsey "the Ayatollah." Let's see if she's really agreed to return to the scene of the crime...

Anonymous said...

Well, they are very different people now than when they were recording Tusk. If nothing else, they are not on drugs. They are much older. They seem to finally appreciate the passing of the time, and not having infinite chances.

Seems that all 5 recording at The Village is already generating some buzz, so that should be a good thing!

I have a very hard time understanding posters who feel the need to express animosity towards Lindsey's family, without having any basis for such slander.

Yes, Lindsey's studio is in a separate building from his house anyway.

Reasoning that Mac members themselves are still childish and could never grow up and get over their petty turf wars so they needed to find a neutral studio to record in make more sense, unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

The fact that somebody told somebody ( Joseph Gould ) that they heard FM were recording at Village Recorder" shouldn't be taken as fact...Stevie was just interviewed at one of the Oscar parties and she said she doesn't know what FM is doing...So I wouldn't believe anything until there's some kind of official word from the FM camp...

Brian said...

to the last post I feel the same thing lets wait for the official word can't believe it til we here officially. just keep our fingers crossed.

Joseph Gould said...

@Anonymous number 11, I was told by someone who physically saw the band at The Village that they were there. Fact.

In this day and age of recording it's unusual for any artist to record a full-length album at any one location. Some of the new record will probably be recorded at Lindsey's studio as well as numerous other locations based on where the band is as a whole. There will be days when certain members are not needed and those days will probably be spent at a small studio doing pickups. FM probably chose The Village because it's large and can comfortably fit all of them and their entourages and still give everyone room to stretch out. Hopefully Warner will get behind this (seemingly final) project and really promote it, especially since Fleetwood Mac was the 10th highest grossing music act of 2013 - so they know the $$ and demand for FM is still there, even though "Extended Play" was a commercial flop. Then again, the band did no tv interviews and didn't perform "Sad Angel" on any large media spectrum besides the tour.

There are a lot of moving parts to any big band - I'm sure just trying to get all five of them together in the same room at the same time is difficult. Maybe Chris is staying at Tara or with Stevie while they record. Maybe they'll film it and put out a documentary like Stevie did!!

Lots of exciting things happening as all the parts begin to move!

Joseph claims to know both Ken & Richard but his FB says he lives in Australia & his FB picture in front of the Village seems to have been taken on vacation along with the Disney pics... Unless you have valid proof and want to name names don't tease people...

JustJeanie said...

Awesome news!! Thanks for the "heads-up" @Joseph Gould!!!! <3

MplsMike said...

I don't think Joseph Gould's information should be dismissed. Yes, Stevie said she had no idea what Fleetwood Mac is doing. Consider this - HOW MANY times has Stevie said in interviews that she absolutely hates when ANYTHING gets leaked out before she (or the band) is ready to make the announcement. Dave Stewart's continual tweeting at the inception of the IYD project was a carefully calculated move, not something he did without Stevie's consent. Stevie isn't going to publicly confirm anything until she and the band are comfortable they have enough material in the can to make a big announcement.

I also have to state I don't think Ken Callait's involvement would be a "Rumours 2." Ken has grown as a producer, as the band has grown as artists. It doesn't have to be Callait per se, I would just like to see some outside involvement production wise to add a different dynamic.

Brian said...

there will be no rumors 2 it been 35yrs plus feelings have changed big time stevie has said she can't write like that anymore those were true feeling a monist each other. they don't have them same felling about each other today.

MplsMike said...

^^ ^^ Yes I am aware of that. I wasn't implying that working with Ken would be a Rumours2. I'm simply hoping they use some outside production to keep Lindsey balanced.

Joseph Gould said...

I agree with MplsMike and Brian's comments, there will be no 'Rumours 2', and it would be in the band's best interest to keep Lindsey's input as a Producer healthily balanced. An 'outsider' as Producer would bring in fresh ideas and input. This was done when Ken Caillat was introduced when they recorded Rumours, fresh ideas and fresh developing talent. They need to do this again with someone. Involving Caillat in some way would be fantastic - not to mention Richard Dashut.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't involve Ken in any way shape or form, after the nasty things he said (true or not) when he was pimping his books!!!

Anonymous said...

It's obvious that Ken Calliat and his various trolls are here to convince people of how essential his involvement in this project could be. It's really weird. Ken - it's over.

Why isn't there a Richard Dashut element here? Right - cause he isn't a self-promoting sleazebag like Calliat.

Get real KC people - it's over. He needs to listen to RUMOURS again...but in a different way..

Joseph Gould said...

@Anonymous #14: I am indeed an Australian, but I have met and quite often speak with Ken Caillat. Last month I spent an afternoon at The Vilage Recorder. For the record, I have never met Richard Dashut, nor have I said or claimed that I have.

Anonymous said...

Joseph has met Ken. I can vouch if it counts for anything

Joseph Gould said...

@Anonymous #15: I can assure you, I am not a "Ken Caillat troll" and I can ensure you that you are totally, completely and utterly wrong - such 'trolls' do not exist. Please keep in mind that Ken Caillat, Richard Dashut AND Fleetwood Mac were instrumental in the creation of some of our favourite Fleetwood Mac songs/records. I'm a diehard Fleetwood Mac fan like everyone else, I'm all for re-creating the impact and magic of Rumours/Tusk/Mirage and I'm all for whatever it takes to achieve that impact. I'm not for a second saying that reintroducing Ken or Richard to the band is the ONLY way to achieve a perfect record. I'm all for the band performing and recording as-is BUT promoting the idea or outside/new/fresh blood joining the recording process to introduce new ideas.

I, for one think that it is un-fan-like of you to criticise and defame Ken and Richard in such a tactless way. We're all entitled to an opinion and I believe that I've presented mine in a fairly tactful and positive way. I'm merely suggesting that new blood, a new engineer/producer would reinvigorate the band and bring new ideas to their work.

Anonymous said...

Get over it - KC burned his bridges with Lindsey. They don't need him. I said nothing negative about Richard D. Only KC, who deserves it. KC was publicly talking about Lindsey's relationship with Ray Lindsay and about how Lindsey screwed Ray over. Why? And about how it was the band's fault that Judy Wong died in bad circumstances. Those are fighting words....

MplsMike said...

@ Anonymous - why is it necessary to put down the opinions of others? Harshly criticizing the thoughts and opinions of others simply because you don't agree with them, to call others trolls, smacks of immaturity. Differing opinions are great and should always be welcomed by everyone, but let's all be adults when we disagree.

Ha - a connection! Might mean that these guys are working on FM album then, as opposed to with someone else in adjacent studio: "Below Photos by Ari Blitz Senior Audio Engineer AfterMasterHD (Interesting side note: Ari Blitz is part of the Engineering Team and works with Shelly Yakus Co-founder & Chief Engineer of AfterMasterHD. Shelly engineered Stevie's Bella Donna Album."

It's great to watch this unravel!

So I just read all 33 messages in order and guess what? The children just can't play nicely in the sandbox. Collectively all of you are exhausting...

Anonymous said...

LOL Really?? Fleetwood Mac worried about 3k a day studio fees? They just grossed 19 million off the last tour. Couple more million in record sales and were worried about fees. They can record were ever they want, they are not a start up act looking for free studio time in the off hours, they are a Dynasty at this point with loads of cash.
Stevie is not going to spill the beans on everything her or the band does. Good grief people ease up. It is a miracle the 5 are back together so lets just wait and see what all comes of it and enjoy it.

Anonymous said...

Hey @Anonymous...KC has the right to comment on the things that he witnessed and was part of. You, I'm guessing, weren't there.........were you? So until someone steps forward to challenge KC that was ACTUALLY there, I think your attack on people is way off base.
