Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" being used in Super Bowl Commercial

The star of this years Budweiser Super Bowl commercial will be a newborn Clydesdale.

The 60-second Super Bowl ad chronicles the bond a Clydesdale foal shares with his trainer. It marks the 23rd Super Bowl ad featuring the Clydesdales.

Budweiser has launched its first-ever Twitter account that went live this past Sunday, and used the occasion to tweet the first photo of the newborn and are taking name suggestions.

CBS this evening (1/30) aired a show featuring Super Bowl Ads you'll be able to see this Sunday and one of them was a short clip of this ad with "Landslide" playing in the background. I'm assuming that "Landslide" will follow in the full ad when it airs on Sunday.

Kinda cool!  Watch The Super Bowl this Sunday for the 60 sec. spot.

Thanks @N8Curlen and @MYarr for the heads-up!

Advertisers are paying upwards of $3.7 million just to air their spot during the big game, major synchs can fetch anywhere from $100,000 to upwards of $1 million, depending on the artist, number of territories airing the ad, the length of the commercial "flight," or airtime, and whether the song has been synched previously.

One synch likely on the upper tier of that spectrum is Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide,” which was commercially licensed for the very first time for Budweiser’s "Clydesdale" spot, which debuted online early Thursday. “We knew she was very protective,” Paul Chibe, Budweiser’s VP of marketing, says of Nicks’ tentative approach to synchs, “but when she saw the script she felt it was an appropriate presentation, that it was an elevation of the music and not something that would take away from it.”

The spot, directed by Jake Scott, shows the animal growing older—until its breeder must hand it over to the folks at Budweiser. The ad then jumps ahead three years, as the breeder reads in the newspaper that the Clydesdales will be visiting his area.

Hoping for a reunion, he goes to the parade. You can guess what happens from there.

It's a poignant and well-shot commercial—in keeping with some of the better Budweiser ads through the years—made all the more evocative by the use of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide." from the 1975 "Fleetwood Mac" album.

PHOTOS | VIDEO: Stevie Nicks Dancing With The Stars

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, multi-Grammy award winner and living legend Stevie Nicks came to perform two songs. Loved how she got into the spirit of “DWTS” with her skirt of many fabrics and chain mail on her gloves, and that lasso move that she made at the end of her performance of her single “Secret Love,” which featured bare-chested Dmitry Chaplin making sweet ballroom love to Anna Trebunskaya on the judges table, as well as Peta Murgatroyd and bare-chested Damian Whitewood. Stevie followed that up with a rendition of the classic Fleetwood Mac hit “Landslide,” with Cheryl and Tony Dovolani in classic black and white doing a classic rumba on the dance floor. Did I mention how classic this was? Also instant classic: the fact that Stevie had chains on her microphone stand, which only solidified the “DWTS” rock star that she is.

Stevie Nicks on Dancing With The Stars

Well... She finally made her first prime time appearance promoting 'In Your Dreams'!... and the first prime time performance of 'Secret Love'. Stevie looked really great, wore the boots, was rocking the wavey hair she's been sporting lately and it looked like she was wearing a new skirt on the outfit... It was nice.  She sounds like she still has some residual of the flu and pneumonia that she caught on the day her new album was released (May 3rd). But I think she pulled it off! Plus given it was LIVE I'm sure she was a little nervous knowing the size of the Dancing With The Stars TV audience.  Vocally on 'Secret Love' you could hear a bit of a rasp in her voice and she may have been slightly out of tune in places... But like I said given that she's only just getting over the flu and pneumonia where she had to cancel shows and other appearances on the east coast - I think she did really well.

Landslide sounded much better vocally. The song was cut down for the show but still sounded like the great Landslide!

It seems it doesn't matter what TV show any of these live performers play on, it never really sounds right. Even on the award shows where there are a lot of live performances, you would think it would be perfect, but it isn't... there's just something missing... I'm sure it's the way it's mixed.

STEVIE NICKS SONG FINDS NEW GENERATION...

THE "LANDSLIDE" EFFECT

GLEE's version of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" is all over the place on various itunes charts in multiple countries.  The Stevie Nicks song which originally appeared on the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album titled "Fleetwood Mac" was never a single back in the day in it's original form, but since 1975 it was a hit for Fleetwood Mac as a live cut in 1997/98 from their live album "The Dance" and The Dixie Chicks made it a monster hit in 2002 (which is actually the version that Glee is covering here).  It's the little song that just goes on and on.  In my mind it doesn't matter who sings it... It's a beautiful contemplative song!

Like I said, Fleetwood Mac's original 1975 version of "Landslide" was never released as a single. The group pulled three top 20 hits from its smash Fleetwood Mac album and then moved on to Rumours, which quickly became one of the best-selling albums of all time. (The group finally released a live version of "Landslide" from The Dance in 1998.) Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" has sold 849K digital copies (and returns to Hot Digital Songs this week at #175). Dixie Chicks' 2002 cover version reached #7 on the Hot 100. It has sold 620K digital copies (and also returns to Hot Digital Songs this week at #114).

BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
Glee's version of Landslide will enter the Billboard Magazine Top 100 this week at #23 making it the charts Hot Shot Debut.  The casts version of the song sold 115,000 downloads in it's first week of availability.  It also increased sales for The Dixie Chicks version for the week moving 17,000 copies of their version up 897%.  Fleetwood Mac's original 1975 version moved 11,000 copies up 252% and The Smashing Pumpkins cover moved 1,000 up 151%.  Impressive!

The itunes charts are LIVE so these numbers are changing all the time, but as of right now, this is where things stand...
