New Fleetwood Mac Album up to Stevie Nicks

In a just-published interview with M Music & Musicians, Lindsey Buckingham said, “The way we do things in Fleetwood Mac is always a political mine field. If it’s not Stevie, it’s me—someone is always causing trouble. [laughs] I know Warner Brothers is dying to get an album from us, even though we’re not signed to them anymore. Stevie needs to come to the table with some material. In order to contemplate a new album, she has to want to do it.”

Buckingham went on to say that Nicks’ positive experience making In Your Dreams, her 2012 solo album, complicates the prospects for a new Fleetwood Mac LP. “She had a wonderful experience making that album,” he says. “She hasn’t said this—this is just me—but knowing Stevie, she’s probably thinking, ‘If I have to write five new songs, do I want to give them to Fleetwood Mac?’ And that’s fair enough. I think she’s feeling a bit protective and territorial about the experience she had doing her solo project. And I can totally relate to that.”

Fleetwood Mac is currently on the European leg of their 2013 tour.

No new Mac album unless Christine is totally on board and Lindsey doesn't produce.

Otherwise, Stevie: Get back in the studio and do another solo album. Now that the IYD era is over, I look back at it and realize just how magical it truly was to live through the experience with you. I hope you do it again.

Are you crazy? Buckingham is one of the best producers in the world - of course he should produce!

Buckingham is by far one of the best producers. Look on the back of every Fleetwood album, his name, along with a few others, is always present as being a producer. He is a brilliant producer and we wouldn't have half of the songs from Mac if it weren't for him.

He is also the most awesome guitarist know to man. Can't wait to see him tomorrow night!

Lindsey is their best producer, by far. And no other producer gets better vocals out of Stevie. He knows how to record her voice better than anyone else. But I agree that they should do an album with Christine included. Even if they have to spend a few months in London recording it. The "Say You Will" CD and their new EP are too guitar heavy and Chris' keyboard sound is missing and therefore none of it have that classic Fleetwood Mac sound. Plus, her songs are very much missed in the mix. Her floating love songs balance out Stevie's mystical ones and Lindsey's quirky rock ones.

I think recording in London would make new songs very interesting! Everyone would probably prefer Hawaii however.

To reiterate a point I made before, it would be super-expensive to record in the U.K. 6 months - 1 year of hotels and/or rented houses. Lindsey probably wouldn't want to leave Kristen and the kids for that long. And even if it sold well by today's standards (500,000 copies to 1 million) it wouldn't recoup the costs. Don't mean to be negative, but that's reality. And Christine won't come to L.A..

But they record much faster nowadays than they did back in the day. I don't think it would take that many months to get the tracks done. Then they could mix them in LA later. Even is Chris doesn't want to tour, a new album would be so much better with her included. And with her, they stand a much better chance of actually making a record that would be radio friendly and DJ's would play and could have an AC hit or two. The publicity of having her back on new music would also generate airplay.

Would be a dream come true for Christine to rejoin to do another album! Very sweet to see the above fans talking about the members as if they know them personally..:) I saw them on Tuesday and blew me away. They have a very friendly way about them which makes people love them even more.

GET KEN CAILLAT BACK IN THE STUDIO WITH FLEETWOOD MAC

Just put out new music! Get it out there. Don't hold anything back. If Christine wants in, do it; if not, do it. These days, I listen to Say You Will on my drives home from work. Sounds even better 10 years later. Odd, many of their albums sound even better 10 years later...Tusk, Say You Will...

All the band should be on board and "Ken Caillat" help in the studio.....

I don't want to hear FM without Chris back on the CD. If she rejoins, then Stevie only needs to come to the table with 2-3 solid songs. She can count on Lindsey to make them special. There is really no reason NOT to include Chris unless she just doesn't want to sing anymore. They are all rich, so they can record in London. New technology makes it much quicker to record these days — they could easily do the master tracks in a few weeks, and mix/overdub back at Lindsey's in LA.

Um...this is Fleetwood Mac we're talking about. They take forever making their albums - which is why they're so good. And the Ken Calliat trolls are back, I see (hello there, Ken - nice that you post as "Anonymous" here trying to get your old job back). Are you kidding? He totally burned his bridges with that book and the promotional interviews. Lindsey and the band do not need him. He never ran the show, was never the band's artistic director and never had a songwriting credit even. I'm sick of hearing about him - he's totally irrelevant to the band. End of story.

I think Lindsey needs to give up the producer role to get the band back on the charts.Maybe a co-producing role will do. In 1987 he was at his best. Now it seems he has lost some of his musical curiousity. But I may be wrong. Anyhow, I'm hoping for a new album.
